Predatory, illegal business practices. Before scheduling an appointment to have my cat neutered I asked the scheduler what the total cost would be. I was told an $80 exam was required before scheduling the $130 surgery. I asked to make sure there were no other costs. She told me the only other cost would be for medication. Satisfied, I scheduled the exam and prepaid the $80 exam fee as required for new clients.
Then on the day of my appointment in the exam room Dr. Cunningham and a staff member handed me a sheet of paper with an itemized list of procedures they recommended for my cat before being neutered totaling $256. There was a test, a vaccine, and one other item. I explained that I couldn't afford that right then. Dr. Cunningham told me that's fine we can do the exam today, you can take this home with you, and once you get them done we can schedule the surgery. I told her that I specifically asked before scheduling the appointment what the total cost would be. She defended herself, "You didn't talk to either of us on the phone. All of our prices are on our website." She told me if I wanted to leave right then she would refund the $80 prepaid fee, so I left.
I imagine most people after taking time off work, prepaying $80 for the exam, and having a cat in heat just quietly sigh to themselves and sign away another $250 when that sheet of paper is dropped in front of them, so it's a big win for Dr. Cunningham even if now and then a person walks out on her. But it's illegal under Ohio law to "[use] a statement ... which would create in the mind of a reasonable consumer, a false impression as to the grade, quality, ... price, value, ... or any other material aspect of the offered goods or services in such a manner that, upon subsequent disclosure or discovery of the facts, the consumer may be induced to purchase goods or services other than those offered." I will be filing a Consumer Complaint with the Ohio Attorney General and suggest anyone else with similar experiences do the same. It just takes 5 minutes to file a complaint online.

This staff is great! Gentle with pets, very friendly & attentive to all your questions & concerns as well as problem solving any budget you have. They’ll get the necessary things that need to get done & spread out anything else in other appointments & they have scratch pay! You get approved for a certain amount without a credit check & make monthly payments with 0% interest for an ample amount of time instead of paying everything upfront.

I've gone to this practice for years and, time and time again, they have done amazing work for my pets. Dr. Cunningham, Dr. Underwood, Dr. Shockling: all of them fantastic professionals as well as clearly passionate about my pets wellbeing. My favorite thing is that they will tell me when they aren't comfortable with a situation and refer me to a specialist because they care that my pet gets the best care. They all also take time to educate us, for example about new medications that may be helpful for my dog with behavioral issues. I would recommend them to anyone, and now they even see exotics! A fantastic practice all around.

I’ve been with them for 8 years and it’s changed hands a lot. The new leadership has dropped the ball. Lacking communication. I had taken my new pup in for shots including parvo shots and they never scheduled the boosters when I was at the desk. I thought she had all her shots cuz the breeder gave her first rounds before I bought her. They dropped the ball with scheduling and I had to pay twice for shots. I explained calmly why this upset me and I shouldn’t have to pay again. I told them after I get my pup her boosters I would switch vets. They canceled my appointment without telling me. So the day of my appointment they put my pup at risk again. I’m sure they drag their feet getting the records over as well. Parvo is a highly easy to get and deadly to pups. This place is not professional.

Dr Underwood and the people that work at Chittenden are amazing providers. My dog Odin can be a little difficult to deal with and Dr U doesn’t even bat an eye. lol she tells him enough and keeps it moving! And he deals with it! And my dog Binkie had a pretty severe infection in his here and she found it and treated it. If you are looking for a vet-come here. Each and every staff member loves their patients and animals period!
