I have used Arena & Harrison CPA's, Inc for the last 4 years for my tax return. Matt Ganz is the cpa that has done my taxes. He is so professional, kind, and wealth of knowledge. My taxes are a little tricky but are always completed in a timely manner. The staff is friendly as well. I'm so grateful for this CPA firm.

Beware! I passed over my tax documents to a Nick Arena (a CPA at Arena & Harrison) on 1/20/18, as soon as I received the necessary files from my employer. Although Nick said that he was free all of February it somehow took him until early March to finally mail me my prepared return (he offered to mail it since their office is 30 minutes away). Upon receiving the return I was asked to send it back because the CPA realized he could add another deduction - this was to be sent back at my expense. Upon reviewing the return I also noted multiple questions and concerns around various parts of the return, including that my student loan interest wasn't included. I mailed the return back on 3/7 and also followed up via email. There was no response via email or phone and finally A MONTH LATER, 4/2, I received the return via mail (extremely close to the tax deadline). When I opened the return NONE of the changes that I requested were made and no one reached out to me prior to mailing the return again to answer my questions, explain why changes wouldn't be made or to notify me that the original reason for sending back, the new deduction, wasn't going to be applied. Once again, I called multiple times and was finally contacted by the receptionist who informed me that the CPA didn't agree with my changes and the return was "accurate" from their standpoint. The accuracy of the return was extremely important because the CPA was saying that I owed thousands of dollars- clearly I wasn't ok with filing it with no context to the lack of changes and I felt unsure that the work was reliable. At this point I had signed nothing and paid nothing. So I sent the return back to the CPA (with USPS tracking) with a note letting them know that I was dissatisfied with their services and would be using a different CPA's services. I clearly didn't use Arena & Harrison's prepared files because I paid another professional CPA firm to file for me. The new CPA was able to do the return within 2 days and with a MUCH lower amount owed on my taxes. Now I've started to receive "past due" bills from Arena & Harrison. I called on 7/14 to let them know that I was confused as to why I was being billed because I did not end up filing with them and returned their files. The receptionist relayed that the firm partner told her "because they did work I am responsible for paying them". I asked for the partner to call me back directly and haven't heard back. (Once again, poor follow through.) I then filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and Arena & Harrison responded unprofessionally. They spent their time trying to make it sound like I was hard to work with (AKA-I was the root of the problem) and used up a large amount of "professional hours". They stated that the reason it took them so long to complete by return was because I kept emailing them new documents to use for my taxes - that is completely inaccurate. I met with Nick Arena on 1/30 and also hopped on the phone with him to make sure that he had what he needed. Luckily I saved all of the emails between us and can say with confidence that not only did I make things easy and provide everything upfront, but I was also very quick to respond if/when Nick reached out to me. I can also see looking through that threads that a LARGE portion of our email correspondences were of me following up asking for a status updates because the CPA was bad at following up or responding at all. My advice is to go elsewhere. I wish I would have done this myself. Arena & Harrison not only has communication/ follow through issues but they also have a clear lack of professionalism. I am shocked that they took the time to respond to my BBB complaint to make ME look bad as opposed to trying to rectify the issue. What they probably don't realize is that anyone reading that on BBB is going to take it as a red flag that they are unprofessional and have no accountability.
