There's a reason it's called Murphy Field House and not Murphy Gym. It's basically a couple courts for basketball/volleyball and a super duper tiny cardio area that overheats at the drop of a hat (or bead of sweat). The roof has a leaking issue that's problematic enough to prevent basketball games from taking place while it's raining/has rained. They should probably consider fixing that.

So, the reason that I gave this place 2 stars is not just because of the facilities but mainly customer service. I don't recall her name but I think it's Dianne or Dana... something like that. She seems to be having a bad day every time I see her. I called to reserve a court for volleyball and asked if they could set it up for a certain time but she was really quick to hang up and came off really rude. She said that it was basketball season, which I understand but not sure if attitude was really needed. I think she even hung up before I could say thank you or bye and found myself to utter the words "wow.. what a ...". I think it's also funny that I'm in the gym doing PT and go back to my car to get my change of clothes to be asked to present my CAC again. It's not that big of a deal but if you can't remember seeing me walk outside and having to come back in literally seconds later then I don't know how to feel about that. Granted if you're in official military PT clothes, then you don't have to present your ID. Here's some good and bad things about this gym: Pros: - 2 full basketball courts that have been recently renovated (flooring) - Never too crowded but it depends on the time of day - Have a few treadmills/elliptical machines Cons: - Can't reserve the courts for official PT sessions (first come first serve basis) - Rude customer service - The men's bathroom NEVER have soap in the dispensers. Just in one (the far right one). - The men's showers seem to always have a ceiling tile missing which causes some pretty cold drafts to come in when the entrance doors are opened. - When it's raining, some of the showers with the open ceiling tiles have small leaks from the roof. - Not enough weights if that's what you're looking for. There used to be weight machines set up in the middle between the two basketball courts but I think it only lasted for about a month?

I like this gym better than Gaffney. Like others have said, it is less crowded and I can go lift weights while my husband plays ball. He used to play every Sunday back home and was super excited when he found out they play ball there every day. This one is defintely his favorite and they have a decent set up, in my opinion.

Good gym and less crowded than Gaffney. If you want to play basketball or volleyball this is the place to go. I have the same complaint as with any gym on Fort Meade. What is with the only water allowed in the gym? Besides that it is a good gym to get your sweat on.

The racquet ball courts are better than gaffney, and usually less crowded. Not as much weights, but there are ball courts for the b ball guys.

Much less equipment than Gaffney Fitness Center, but this is where you can hoop it up or play some volleyball on the 2 courts they have. Staff is friendly as long as you show your i.d. They have racquet ball courts, yoga room, treadmill room, and weight room.
