I took my 5 year old granddaughter to the Mad Hatter's Tea Party this past Sunday, July 21st. It was amazing! As we were leaving, my granddaughter said, "This was my bestest day ever!" Thank you for having fun family activities. I had as much fun as she did!

The garden is well kept. Such a beautiful building with a rich historic background that I'm sure the public is unaware of.

Although, I'd been living in the city for a period of five years I hadn't visited the Taft Museum and I don't think that it's probably that unusual. Although, they do a good job of advertising, most folks have heard of it, I don't believe that most of them have ever stepped foot inside the place. I think the more likely customer is somebody that belongs to some type of professional social or business networking organization because they do hold after hours events. The day that I attended that had a family day out in the court yard. So, it's obvious that the administration is trying to be proactive about generating visitors.
There are a couple of things that would make this difficult. The main attraction is very early 16th, 17th Century Greek/ Italian Art. It's full of highly religious works of art that were the custom of that day and many of the permanent works are sculptures from the Longworth and Taft families. The viewing environment is extremely formal. So, there's a limited audience. The second thing that makes it difficult is the location. It's in an interesting part of town that most locals are hardly familiar with and rarely ever visit. It's situated right next to a luxury hotel. There's a small public park which is ornamental. Fortunately, there's on-site parking but there's very limited parking outside of the Museam.
How many people are going to drive into the heart of the city to view Renaissance art?
I've said all of that and I can still say that both the home and the works of art are purely stunning. I found that I had to use my full concentration to study the paintings, sculptures, and ornate home furnishings, even just the sofas were stunning. The descriptions were often enlightening. That's how I learned about The Longworth family. So, in final analysis although, it's not particularly accessible it's worth it to make the effort to get there and it's certainly not the type of place to only visit one time. The far end of the house has some "contemporary" landscape paintings, which offers a different vibe than the more formal works of art that are so prevalent. If you really look you'll be able to see the changes that occurred over more than 200 years, and that's powerful.

This is a gem. A first-rate art collection. Variety and quality are stunning. Smartly displayed for easy and relaxed viewing. The descriptions and histories of each work are well-written and quite informative. We liked the collection so much that we went back a second day because we didn't allow enough time the first day.

This art museum is a real gem. It is located in the Taft home and is brimming with works of art. There is a permanent collection and also traveling exhibits. You can see almost everything in an hour, or so. There are paintings, sculptures and decorative arts. My favorites include the Rembrandt, a portrait of Robert Louis Stevenson by John Singer Sargent, a James Whistler portrait of a girl at a piano and a diamond encrusted notebook from Faberge. The museum is immaculate, including the restroom. If you like art, this should be on your bucket list.

A nice collection gathered by a family over their time of wealth. Heavy in Asian porcelain, and Dutch and French painters.

I loved their African American exhibit, was very nice and well put together, just wish they were a little more kid friendly though. Telling kids they can't have candy, then getting upset when they won't behave is weird and that's one big thing that turned me off.
Also, you couldn't touch the plaques to read along with the passages of the story behind the art, so I also didn't like that either they're way to pushy and bossy.
I understand they're in an inner city with maniacs but it's not fair to treat everyone that way, they need better customer service. I felt like I was back at an elementary school trip and it took the fun out of the experience.

This is a wonderful art museum set in a historic home in Cincinnati. Inside, you explore the rooms of the home surrounded by art work. There are some real gems from the likes of Turner and Sargent (many more too) as well as religious art work and special exhibitions.
The decor of the rooms is beautiful and the information about each piece of artwork and the rooms is fantastic, lots of great facts that bring the experience to life.
The museum actually offers free entry on I believe Sunday and Monday which is great value and you can easily spend an hour exploring. They don't allow any drinks in the museum (apart from for special reasons eg medical), even capped bottles. There's a small cafe and gift shop (the shop is great, very nice range of souvenirs on offer!), and all the staff were really friendly too!

Great museum that illustrates how a single collector gathers together their own personal collection. This has been the traditional way art was displayed, and it is wonderful for the visitor to see how one person's personal tastes is expressed in one place. Yes, it is small, but I call it intimate, and a learning experience into the history of art history.

Great and insane collection of really hard to find artists from Europe in this tiny museum. I definitely didn't expect to see a Rembrandt but it hit incredibly different to see it so accessible in a free museum.Definitely a go to spot if you're trying to see the best of European art in Cincy.

It is a beautiful museum with a lot of history. I loved how each room was themed. I went twice to see the Sporting Fashion: Outdoor Girls 1800-1960 and was super impressed. I can't wait to see what future exhibits they bring. It was also really nice to find out if you have a Cincinnati Museum membership for the museums at Union Terminal you can also get into Taft at no extra charge. Since this museum is an old house it felt very intimate and not like a giant museum. It's a perfect way to spend a couple hours and place yourself in the past. There is art spanning over centuries. I would definitely recommend this place if you are a fan of art, architecture, and history (especially Cincinnati history)

First time visiting. The sporting fashions exhibit was phenomenal! Also the cafe grilled cheese and tomato bisque were fantastic! This museum is in NARM so it’s free with your Ohio history Connection NARM reciprocal membership.
