Called to ask if he could recone a speaker in a vintage guitar amplifier and he told me to bring it in so he could look at it. When I brought it in he damaged the speaker further while inspecting it and then told me he couldn’t repair it and that I should just replace it, which is not what I was asking him to do.
He charged me $35 for looking at it, damaging it further, and telling me he couldn’t do the job.

I brought a Yamaha cassette deck in for a broken belt. While I was standing there, he opened it up to fix it on the spot. Looking at it, though, he determined it would take some time and effort to repair. He said it might not be repairable. I left it with him and a couple of days later he called to say it was fixed. Very happy. It is a good deck and it’s hard to find them anymore. Very reasonable cost to repair. He -improved- it. He said there were supposed to be two belts, but sometimes they weren’t both installed by Yamaha. He put them both it. I’d recommend his work to anyone.

I can't thank Art enough. My dad recently passed away and left me hundreds of Beta and VHS tapes. I have a functioning VCR, but our Beta deck hadn't been used in decades, and all of the rubber belts and such had dried out and gotten stuff.
Art was able to repair the machine while I waited -- in fact, it took him longer to find the replacement belts than it took to exact the repairs -- but he had everything on hand.
I also enjoyed chatting with him, as I began my career in local TV news, and we were able to share some notes on that front.
Thanks to Art, I have been able to capture about 30 hours' worth of Beta tapes and have rediscovered some amazing memories.
