On April 25, 2024, in the afternoon, my husband and I visited the SoftMoc store at Halifax Shopping Centre to purchase shoes. While trying on a pair of Steve Madden shoes, we noticed that other customers who entered the store after us received greetings and assistance from the employees, but we were ignored. We were perplexed and upset that none of the employees acknowledged us or offered to help us find a suitable shoe pair. We wondered if this was due to our Indian ethnicity or if they made assumptions about our ability to afford the shoes based on our appearance. As a result, we decided not to proceed with the purchase and left the store, feeling that the employees' behavior was discriminatory.

I wish it was possible to give 0 stars. I apologize for the novel you’re about to read but I feel I need to get it out. My daughter and I had a horrible experience that left her in tears when she tried to return shoes that didn’t fit. She is 16 and she and her 17 year old sister took back the shoes bought the evening before and never worn except in the store. She was told that the “soles were worn” and couldn’t be returned. Her sister asked for more of an explanation and the employee ant the counter agreed that they did not look worn but the manager said they were worn and the answer was no. I sent my 16 year old back in later in the evening when the employee who sold us the shoes came on shift thinking that she could help verify that they were only purchased the night before (how badly can a pair of good quality Birkenstocks wear down in one night if never worn outside and she had been in school all day so how could she have worn them to the extent they would be unsellable?) she didn’t mention she had been in earlier which was probably a mistake but she’s only 16 and has never done this before. I was at work so I’ve been trying to get her to be responsible for some things herself. When the employee learned that the manager had already said no she told my daughter that she was rude to try and “sneak in” to try the return again. (It’s worth noting here that before this employee spoke to the manager she saw nothing wrong with the shoes and was going to do the return). My daughter left crying. This ignited my mama bear. I called the store to lodge a complaint with how she was treated but all I got was silence to my questions and that my daughter was in the wrong. And apparently me as well because rather than address my concern with how she was treated, the employee (who called herself a supervisor) started in with the argument that they were not resellable. All I wanted was an apology for what she said to my daughter since I’m the one who told her to go back, but I got drawn into an argument about whether they could be returned. In the end I was told that they would not return the shoes, that I could try another store or corporate office and that if my daughter or I contacted them again, it would be harassment. I have called corporate and left a summary of this interaction. I hope to hear back from them soon. I was feeling like my daughter was treated unfairly because she was a teenager but upon seeing other reviews, what happened to us seems common for that store and management. I wish I had read them sooner.
I took the shoes back to the Bedford location the next morning and they returned them without issue. Definitely recommend that store but would warn anyone who wants to buy Soft Moc, not to buy from the Halifax shopping centre location.

Always understaffed and you have to stand in line to even ask a silly question. The plump built female manager with glasses pretended to be busy at the counter with sorting shoe boxes both day I purchased and tried to return my defective shoes (which I couldn’t just like others). Customer service is a scam I would say lol. Think twice before you buy from them.

This store is egregiously dysfunctional. It is incredibly difficult to get a size pulled so you can try on a pair of shoes. I have walked out of this location on a number of occasions due to standing and waiting for extended periods of time with no one seemingly able to go out back and check for sizes.Softmoc carries some really amazing products and I often peruse their website, but I generally don’t have much luck ordering new styles online as I struggle to get a good fit (foot issues). In an attempt to try some products in my size, I ordered three pairs of shoes online to be delivered to the store, as I knew I wouldn’t keep all three. When 2/3 of the products were delivered, I went into the store to pick up those shoes and try them on. It was complete mayhem in the location.In order to do ANYTHING in the store, you had to wait in line at the cash. This included standing in line to ask for them so pull product from out back. So here I am, standing in line to pick up an online order, and waiting behind customers who are TRYING ON SHOES IN LINE. I mean, I don’t blame the customers, because if you step out of line to try something on, and it doesn’t fit so you want to try something different, you’d have to go to the back of the line and wait all over again. The line was long and moving at a painfully slow pace.The other strange thing is that they didn’t seem to have enough computers. The phrase, “we don’t have any computers available, you’ll have to wait in line at the cash” was heard numerous times. One poor lady was just trying to see if another location had the size/product she was looking for; she had to go to the back of the line and wait. Insanity.It took me about 25 minutes to pick up my online order, about two minutes to try them on to determine they didn’t fit. Since I didn’t want to be a jerk and hold up the line while I tried on shoes, I had to go to the back of the line and wait to return it, costing me at least another 15 minutes. When I finally got to the front again, there were no computers available so had to wait a couple more minutes for one to free up. Again, insanity.Softmoc, this location is TANKING your brand reputation in this area. Read the reviews; I’m not the only one having this sort of issue. Out of curiosity, I read through reviews on Indeed and I’m going to make an educated guess that this is a management issue. The manager sounds like a nightmare based on those reviews. I’m not sure how your franchise is structured, but I’m baffled as to why corporate HQ doesn’t do something about this. I have witnessed a lot of bad customer service in my four decades on this planet, but this store is hands down, bar none, the most ridiculously dysfunctional retail establishment I have ever had the misfortune of walking into. The staff seemed nice enough but obviously stressed. They were understaffed, under equipped, overextended, and Softmoc is losing a lot of sales because of it. I watched so many people walk in and walk back out in the 45 minutes I was in there that is was almost comical.Thankfully, when my third pair came in to the store, I was able to call the 1-877 number and cancel my order. I provided feedback to the nice agent who assisted me, but wanted to warn others. If you really want to order something from Softmoc in HRM, have it delivered directly to your home and then travel to Dartmouth to return. It’s faster to go across the bridge and back again than it is to get to the front of their line at the register.

Customer service is excellent! All of the staff members watched over the customers and two of them helped me find exactly what I needed. I love this store so much, they have new and exciting shoes to try. By far one of the best shoe stores available for style, price and customer service. Thank you!
