We got back from a four day waterfowl hunt with Mouse River Outfitters last week. Short answer - we will be back! It was a fantastic hunt and a great experience. The lodge was comfortable, and the food was really good. The guides were friendly, knowledgable and personable. Todd was a great host and was really good about answering questions and helping with expectations. The hunts were great! In the four mornings, we had two good hunts, one really good hunt, and one epic hunt!On the good hunts, even when the birds were not flying great, the guides were working hard to adjust the spread and do everything they could to maximize opportunities we did have. They communicated clearly on safety expectations, and were very conscientious about adhering to all laws.I did a lot of research for this hunt, and Todd and I had a number of conversations before we booked and put down money. Todd was great at getting back to me and was patient answering questions. There were a lot of ducks around, and being able to chase some upland birds in the afternoon on our own was a bonus. Their pricing was very competitive. I would highly recommend Mouse River Outfitters and am already looking forward to my next trip.

I cannot express enough how impressed I am with Mouse River Outfitters. The attention to detail, the meals & the hard work to make this a tremendous experience was incredible. Todd was by far the best owner/operators I have seen run his team. Guides: Nick, jarred,Murphy & Craig were the team that made this an unbelievable experience. The most renowned chef in the state. I can’t wait to take my family back to my new friends at mouse river outfitters.

We had one of the worst hunting experiences ever with these guys and It had very little to do with the poor bird count this year or unusually hot weather. Those are up to Mother Nature and I get that. Bad directions added 3 hours to a 9 hour drive from Wisconsin. That irritated me right off the bat. We were given the wrong address to go to; told it was an 8 bedroom newly remodeled "lodge"; and that our 2 guides would take care of us; that they were local boys and expert guides and would most definitely put us on some great hunts. Then we found out that 1 of them was having a baby and wouldn't be around. There is no lodge there, only a 100 plus year old farmhouse with new siding on it. it's dark, no lights on, and there is no signage telling us we are in the right place. I wondered if we were going to get shot... The place stunk to high heaven. It had been painted inside a few days ago with oil base paint. It smelled of something or someone that died there, as there was an equally bad musty/moldy decayed smell. I could barely breathe. I managed to open a window that hadn't been opened in a very long time hoping for some breeze to help with the smell. Only got the yipping of the neighbors dogs all night instead. We found out that there were really 4 bedrooms with 8 steel cots with maybe 4 inch thick pads, paper thin sheets and covers thinner than grandma's shawl. Upstairs is a death trap with no fire escape options. Some of the wiring is ancient. Dead flies in the light fixtures. Many electric baseboard heaters had been added and I worried about an electrical fire. No food in the house. We had to go to Subway 20 miles away for dinner. The promise of gourmet chef prepared 3 meals per day was nowhere in sight. The remodeled kitchen had no utensils, creamer or milk. We drive 30 miles to a field and set up a bunch of nice decoys crammed so close together that there is no place for ducks or geese to land. Our guide mentions that this is his first year guiding about now, and it showed. He tried really hard and had all the right equipment, but just needs some experience guiding. My dog was not able to retrieve a single bird, as the guides dog was with us and sent on every retrieve. Pisser. We find a couple of stupid ducks and 1 flock of geese and end up with 5 birds, more than I expected. Lunch at a café afterwards was the culinary high point of the trip. Our guy did a good job cleaning the birds. Then we packed up and went home. We were supposed to be on a 3 day hunt, but cut our losses after 3 hours. As a fitting end to the story, as I went into the one and only bathroom (for up to 8 hunters) before hitting the road, there was a turd floating as if to say "**** on you, s******* I've been hunting for 50 years and been in hundreds of hunting and fishing lodges. I personally believe that they should be sued for false advertising based on that alone. This is just one man's opinion. For the top dollar price we paid for a professional hunting experience, we were disappointed at every level.

I've waterfowl hunted all over the US and Canada, both on my own and with outfitters, and Mouse River is hands down the best place I've ever hunted. They're in an awesome area, they have a great group of guys, the facilities and food are great, and most importantly they bust their butts scouting every day to put the hunters on birds. In addition their staff is a riot. I don't know what hurt more, my shoulder from shooting or my gut from laughing!! I've been back 2 years and feel like family. I'll definitely be going back! Todd and his wife and staff run a first class operation, and it's probably your best bet in ND for a place to consistently kill birds! There are probably places that are fancier, but if you want to consistently kill birds and have a blast, this is the place.

You will not find a funnier man or a better guy. He will put you on the birds, fish or deer faster and better than anybody else. My uncle and I have used Todd and his guides for decades. Stop looking and book your trip with Todd Larson today. He will make your experience one of a lifetime. If your like me, and you can only afford a trip or two a year you need to make it count. This is money well spent.
