I have been banking with Gate City for over decade and I can not speak enough volume about how much I love this bank. The employees - both tellers and on the phone - are friendly and realistic. Turn around on inquiries and emails is quick and detailed. If GC continues to be as good as they are today, I will never go with another bank.

Absolutely the most awesome branch of all of Gate City Bank's!! I've been in here/and or went to the drive-thru on numerous occasions; and EVERY time, no matter whom I have spoken with about whatever issue, they have been helpful, courteous, and even went above and beyond on a few occasions!! And I don't even have enough space here to get into their awesome banking perks!

I thought it was pretty similar to most banks, not especially good or bad. The tellers are snobby and judgmental, but in a subtle way. Not overt. They won't insult your appearance or refuse you and your money, but you can kind of tell they judge people and they see anyone who isn't well dressed as a piece of trash. Banks tend to be stiff. And they organize their promotional material to try to trick you. For instance, if they don't pay you interest, then they don't mention interest in their brochures. They don't write 'no interest.' Then, I tried out their bank to bank transfer software through the online banking, with a test payment and it didn't work. They sent me an email telling me it didn't go through and to call them immediately, that my account would be suspended until the issue was resolved. Well, I called them and they couldn't figure out what went wrong with the transfer. And they didn't seem at all concerned that it was poor customer service. They wanted me to call the software company to get tech support, instead. So, they keep me on the phone for a half hour, constantly being polite and wanting to get my reasons why I want to close my account, but never really helping me or resolving anything. People have come to expect so little from their bank. This bank was rated no. 1 in the Grand Forks Herald. I didn't notice anything special about it. They give you cookies, but lately, I've gone in and the cookies are hard, as if the buy them twice a week and let them sit in a back closet for 4 days, so when they finally put them out, they aren't soft anymore. And I guess us customers are either too stupid to notice or we are supposed to be grateful to them for their generosity. This bank has 40 branches and billions in assets. They aren't a small local bank that is dependent on you and your business. You could be expendable to them. I don't know what they say in their board room meetings. Big businesses tend to not care as much about people. When I joined they had a choice of gifts. I waited around a couple weeks for them to stock their power bank, the portable battery to charge tablets. It didn't work very well. It was cheap Chinese quality. It was so useless that I just threw it away. I just closed my account, today, and the teller asked me why, but I got the feeling I was responsible for providing a reason in order to satisfy her, not her serving me to find what is best for me. I think they want poor customers, if they think they will overdraft, because they can make a lot in fees, that way. Especially, if they overdraft, then have more transactions go beyond the overdraft. I should ask banks how that works. I think that is why people hate banks. Maybe, they should be able to suspend the account, so the overdraft items won't go through, at some point, rather than attaching more and more fees. But, what upset me was what seemed like genuine hostility coming from the teller. So, they make a lot of money off of poor people, yet at the same time, despise and resent them. Oh, and their social service programs, who is doing the giving, them or their customers? If the customers are expected to give or receive emails asking us to give and playing on our sympathies, then that is one thing. But, if they aren't doing the giving or they are using profits which should be devoted to lowering fees or what have you, then you are giving money to an inefficient organization. I want them to focus on being the best bank they can be, not helping out the community. If a customer is genuinely interested in helping the community, why would they seek out that information at their bank? I've never heard anyone say, 'I'd like to help out my fellow man, let's go to a bank to try to find out how.' Have you? I think it might be a ruse to fool people into believing the opposite of what they are. Instead of being kind and giving, they are greedy and dec
