How do you reach this place? I've stopped by, called both the 218 and 701 area code numbers (because both are listed in different places), tried an online booking service that one of the stylists had and checked Facebook. Love the brand, but jeepers they don't make it easy to do business with them.

This salon features a breath-taking north and east view of Fargo from the seventh floor. I like the new calm colors and the upbeat music. I can trust my stylist to create a look that gets noticed from the moment I walk onto the street. I've been searching since I moved from Fargo for a salon that fits my personal style, or even one that can pull off a tight fade. Salon Why? is stands above the rest -- I'll always make time for a cut when I'm in the area.

I visited Salon Why back in August, and I haven't really needed a haircut or color since, seven months later. I made an appointment with Ben, upon recommendation. I knew that he didn't accept credit cards, so I made sure I hit up the ATM across the street beforehand. When I arrived to the salon, I knew I would like it. Casual, colorful, relaxed. The stylists and clients were all chatting and listening to music. I met Ben and knew it was gonna be a fun experience, based on his multicolored, extension-filled, braided creation of a hairstyle. I'm quite picky when it comes to my hair and get a little nervous with new stylists, but Ben listened to what I wanted and seemed very confident, which put any nerves to rest. Ben took care of my rough-lookin' roots with ease. The coloring process was not only super fast, but grew out well and still look natural. We paged through magazines and gossiped as the color processed before he rinsed my hair with an amazing sulfate-free shampoo. Next was the cut. I have really thick hair, so he went through and thinned it out, a much needed move that added tons of volume and sleekness. I wanted a trim and a new shape to my hair, but without taking off too much length. When he finished, my hair somehow looked longer than when I went in. How he did this, I do not know. But I liked it. How much did it all cost? For a cut and a highlights, it came to $90, which is about half the cost of what I normally pay. Amen. So, if you're looking for a talented, young, cool stylist who will make your hair look great while jamming out to Robyn, Ben's your guy.

Holy cow, can I get a few more stars than 5? I started going to Salon Why? about five years ago when I was disappointed with the many, many salons I tried in Fargo. The stylists are fun, energetic, creative, and definitely know hair. I don't dye my hair, but I work with a few girls who always go there for color. I was there once when Ben fixed this poor girl who got a ridiculously bad dye job from Cost Cutters. CC's tried three times to fix it, making it worse, but she came to Salon Why? and walked away flawless. I moved to New York City for about 18 months and almost everything was better there, but I couldn't find as good of a haircut. Seriously. I went to a salon that charged $100+ for a haircut, but always got a better cut from Kristie back in Fargo. I worked in fashion and people would ask where I got my hair cut. They never believed me when I said Fargo! A top modeling agent told me "Well, she better get her *ss out here to the city and show these b*tches what's up!" Seriously, that good. Now that I'm living in Fargo again I miss my urban lifestyle a lot, but I can ease the pain with the best haircut whenever I want... without the 1500 mile flight!
