Called yesterday (01/30) to see about making an appointment for a car inspection that day or the next day (today, 01/31). After being told that they could take me today, I scheduled my appointment. I told them yesterday that I was going to school in VA, but that I would be traveling back to NC to get it inspected. This was why I was sure to make an appointment, because I didn’t want to drive up there and not be seen.
Fast forward to today. I drive my 2 hours to the appointment, stopping to grab some cash about 20 minutes before my appointment. I get a call, 20 minutes from my appointment, telling me that their inspection machine is down and that they could not take me today. Had this been it, I would have simply chalked it up to bad luck on my part and went about my day. However, I tried to make the best of it by calling around to see if other people would be able to get me in. After no luck on that front I called back, asking if they thought it would be up within an reasonable waiting time, since I really didn’t want to have to go home and come all the way back. The second person I talked to asked others around him and informed me that it was a NC issue and not an individual issue. Again, this would have been fine had he not immediately told me that it had been down since the day before (when I scheduled the appointment).
I’m very frustrated because I had explicitly told the person I talked with the day before that I would be driving from VA, and I feel like it would have been nice to know that there was a potential for that machine to still be messed up. What’s even more frustrating is that they waited to call me until 20 minutes to my appointment, when it had been down since the day before. It would have saved me time and money to have known as soon as possible, regardless of whether or not I was traveling or in town itself.
I’m not frustrated with the second man I talked to, as he seemed not to know about the situation either, but it was a very inconsiderate first experience. Knowing that it might be longer to be seen would not have prevented me from scheduling an appointment, so I’m not sure why this happened. I’m hoping this was just a miscommunication or a bad day.

Great and honest service. I had a tune up done this time.The best thing about this auto shop is that they will not try to find things to charge you for or any other dishonest practice. They are pretty quick about getting things done too!Highly recommend.?

Nice people and good work but setting up an appointment is a real hassle. When you call it tells you to go online but when you go online it's down.

I only come here for 2 reasons:1. To get an inspection when I renew my registration.2. Anytime I need tire work.I have never been anything but delighted with the results every time. Let's set some expectations though. This place is not a hi-tech, big company establishment. It's a small, independent shop where people will say "no charge" when they are not able to help you. Imagine going back in time to a better era when people were nicer to each other; that's Caswell Tire.I do know they had some serious staffing problems in 2021 and 2022, but who didn't? I have never given a place a bad review (or been upset with a business) because the people who DID show up are working as hard as they can, doing their own work and that of other positions lacking people to fill them.I'll always recommend Caswell Tire for tire work. I don't use their mechanic services, but for tires, they're great.

Excellent customer service! Coming from out of state for an emissions inspection. Called ahead and they couldn't do it but went above and beyond to point me to the closest location to me. Super friendly too.
