Beautiful small beach town, but mediocre hotel. Outdated and bare minimum cleanliness, if you can manage the foul smells of mildew and other unpleasant things. Same with the food and service. A lot of things were out of service or not working, such as the outdoor bar area. Not worth staying more than 2 nights for the price you pay, but it’s the only option for staying right at the beach outside of airbnbs. Wouldn’t take much to revamp the place a little bit. Overall seems like a lack of care in this place. Second time we’ve been and would not come back again. If you can see past all of that and don’t mind feeling gross for a few days, then it’s an okay place to stay.

The rooms may be a little dated, the pools not the best kept, the price a little rich but this beach is well worth it. Our favorite place.

??Your Content Creator visited Shell Island Rrsort in Wrightsville Beach, NC-for a beautiful wedding. A beach backdrop wedding ceremony with a simple arch in the sand that transitioned indoors for the reception that entailed the most down to earth, from the heart decor! It was all so perfect but done with a minimal touch. The indoor reception also had a beach view through the floor to ceiling glass windows with awesome beach chairs just outside to adorn the guest as they gathered indoor or outdoor. The venue allowed the couple to bring their own decor & vendors. They didn't even book a DJ or band, they just played the music through their phone & a large speaker, talk about budget friendly & genius. The videos that Your Content Creator captured from this wedding were simple FANTASTIC! Here's just a couple. I wish that I could share them all with you. What an experience!

I’ll start off with the good. The location is wonderful and the staff is okay. However, our first room just felt icky and the bed was horrible like you could feel the springs. We requested a change and thankfully got it. It is honestly like they do the least they can when cleaning the rooms. The pool was nasty our first day, and the next morning they had to close it down to clean it something that should be done when they close it. The hot tub jets do not work it’s like sitting in a bath tub. We’ve been coming here the past 4 years with this one being our last trip. I know each room is own individually, but the two we had just wasn’t worth what we paid. Also never look behind the beds because that dust is wild. Plus our shower wouldn’t drain and they came up to unclogged it the whole room smelled awful for hours.

The lights were poor, and the dust on the headboard and dirt on the tub, nonetheless we complaint about w feont desk, did'nt do anything. The restaurant menu is doesn't have many choices. And nonetheless the cost, you won't have a cleaning room everyday. Definitely, don't come back.

Was really disappointed on the room!
Rooms: Location was good but the room not the cleanest. Bathtub kept getting clogged and sheets not clean had hair and stains.

Came for a wedding in July 2024. Left with COVID. At least nine others in our party did, too. Those are just the ones we know about. Place feels dirty and I guess we’ve confirmed that it is.
Rooms: The room we stayed in was very outdated. Electrical outlets were scary or some didn’t work at all. Lights in the living room flickered and turned on/off when they wanted to.

Room floors where extremely dirty also no towels or room cleaning. We stayed 4 nights and if you needed something you have to go to front desk to ask. Their stays are so high and not worth it. Bathroom was clogged. And they have a roach infestation at night on the back walk rooms.

The resort was a bit dated. Location couldn’t have been nicer- quiet family oriented. The hotel was dirty. The garbage cans are flooded in the daily and the rooms were less than sanitary with garbage left under the beds, sandy floors everywhere, handprints on all the glass. We had to ask for extra linens and towels which were very dated. It was doable after we cleaned it up for ourselves but definitely would not do again. We probably would have checked out had it not been a reservation we were required to keep.The pools were tiny and busy but they were there. People in the community were kind.
Rooms: They need better housekeeping. Maybe the management should focus to these details but also the demographic of the area since it is a wealthy community trying to get help for a cost with only kids of wealthy to pull from?! Idk ?♀️ just observing.

My mother loved this place. It was unfortunate that the hot tub was malfunctioning at the time. It was cold so we were pretty disappointed about it. The area is nice. I would return if the amenities were operating.

My family and I ?Love? Shell Island Resort!? You have the whole end of the beach to yourself. Not crowded at all. Sand and water is very clean. Beautiful sunrise over the ocean and sunset behind the hotel, over the marshland. Indoor and outdoor pools, cleaned daily. Corn hole. Fitness room. Life guard. Rooms are very cozy. One bedroom with two beds, kitchen/ living room together. Two bathrooms. All rooms have beachfront balconies. Restaurant offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. Drink bar by the pool is very convenient. They sometimes have live music. Conference/reception room available. Wedding venue. Service dog friendly. We have been visiting this resort for the last 5 years. We highly recommend Shell Island Resort.
Nearby activities: Kohl's Frozen Yogurt is delicious. We hear the hotdog trolley is great, and reasonably priced. The Oceanic Restaurant on the pier is a nice visit, but limited menu. The shrimp and crab cajun alfredo pasta, and the calamari, at South Beach Grill was chef's kiss!
Safety: We felt very safe here.
Walkability: Lumina Ave. does have sidewalks.
Lots of room to walk along the beach.
Food & drinks: Drink and food bar available by the pool. Try the Bahama Momma with coconut cream. Delicious!
