The vet doc has always been pleasant, answers questions and makes comments as he is checking out my dog. He has always taken his time and doesn't seem bothered by our dog being a less than cooperative patient. The dog is upset just walking through the door and the staff are calm and tend to her needs. Our dog is muzzled for safety. She growls and is totally foolish while there.
But, they dont miss a beat while the dog is acting.out.Thank you. Neighborhead Vet. 8/20/24

Charged hundreds of dollars when picking up my dead baby boxer. They didn’t save him but I was charged with them trying and tests he had done prior to going that day. The vet didn’t even greet my family when picking up our baby boxer who was dead. The vet has had a cold personality since day 1. This place was the only option I had for a nail trim. Never going back with any pet. Not to mention, the office doesn’t know how to pick up a phone!

I do not recommend Dr. Taylor and The Neighborhood Vet. At first we had great experiences, as long as our dog didn’t need anything besides yearly exams.
Our dog started limping pretty bad and we brought him in to be checked out. We were told that he had a broken toe. He was started on pain medicine and we wrapped his foot everyday. Weeks later, still limping.
Took him in for another exam, we were told he had hip dysplasia. He was started on meloxicam. Six months later, tried to get his meds refilled and they informed us he needed blood work to test his liver from the meloxicam. We did not know and were not informed ahead of time that this medication required regular blood work. But ok, of course. We got him in and got him tested.
On his next yearly exam, we told the doc that he was still limping pretty bad at times and that the meloxicam didn’t seem to be working. It was recommended that we switch to galliprant, a much more expensive drug but overall better for hip dysplasia and arthritis symptoms. We asked at the time of prescribing if this drug required the routine liver work up and we were told no. So we switched and started paying $160 a month to the vet for this medication.
A month or so later, we realized that we could get his prescription for much less money through Costco pharmacy. We called the vet and asked for them to call it in to Costco. They said they could not call it in because they needed blood work to check his liver. ???? We had already been told that this was not the case and he had just been in for his yearly exam a month or so prior.
Eventually we got it called into Costco but could not get refills from the vet. So every month we would call Costco, who would call the vet, who would say that he needed blood work but couldn’t get him in until next week. So our dog would go days without the medicine that was making it able for him to get up and get around.
It seems as if we kept paying the vet $160 a month for this medication all would be good. As soon as we found a more affordable pharmacy, we started to have issues. Why did they not do a liver panel at his yearly exam when he was already on medication? And why when we tried to get his prescription from another, more affordable pharmacy was it now an issue?
When questioned, the “doc” said he can come in for bloodwork or they can send his paperwork to another vet. Ok, so because we don’t want to bring our dog in for bloodwork we were told was unnecessary and since they decided not to do the blood work at his last yearly exam, we are forced to find another vet?
Happily we did and we feel our dog is in much better hands. Our other friends who have pets that are clients at this establishment have also looked elsewhere. It does not seem that the pet is the priority for them and I do not trust that this place was giving our dog the care he deserved.

At first, this Vet and Dr. Taylor seemed awesome. Then, my dog started to limp & I was told it was a broken toe, instructed to keep it wrapped, etc. and we did but the limp persisted over 2 months. I took him back for ANOTHER X-RAY and it now was hip dysplasia. They started him on Meloxicam 1 pill a day. Dr. Taylor does not seem to do refills on prescriptions, so I must call each month. However, on the 3rd month I called I was told he'd need liver work and blood work every 3 months while on the Meloxicam. So we trusted them and did this. After 6-9 months, we weren't seeing much improvement and my dog was switched to 80MG of Galliprant. We were told, by Dr. Taylor, that with Galliprant we would not need the 3 month exams, liver and blood work. But still, I would have to call every months to get the prescription filled. I then found out they were charging $156/mo vs. Costco at $119 and some change per month. I asked them if I could move it to Costco and they said sure. Still would not prescribe it for refills. So I'd have to call Costco who would call the Vet. Costco pharmacy would call me back and tell me that the vet said my dog needs exam, liver and blood work done before he can refill the prescription. I call the Vet, they said it's a mistake as they left the note in there regarding the Meloxicam. 1 Month later, same thing happens yet this time Dr. Taylor INSISTS that I bring my dog in for liver & blood work. I spoke with Costco pharmacy and inquired about their other pups on Galliprant. They told me most are on 6-12 months supplies. I called another local vet who said the same and have ultimately taken my business to them. I also received a text from The Neighborhood Vet Hospital that said, "Doctor Taylor says we need an exam and a liver profile before any prescriptions, or we can transfer records to another vet." - This was during a pleasant conversation. Not sure about anyone else, but I read that text as "Do it, or P*** off", only adding to my curiosity on whether this staff or "Doc" as they like to call him truly cared about my dog. And what a rude thing to say just in terms of general Customer Service. Someone at that staff needs more education or at least some basic CS training skills.
For what it's worth, I do not recommend The Neighborhood Vet nor Dr. Taylor. I think he targets more rural/farm areas and those types of animals. I'm calling into question now, and have requested the records, if they even actually gave my dog the X-RAY twice. Both of which I asked to see but "could not". He's flakey, and while most of the staff are excellent and a pleasure to speak to, there is one lady there in particular who I just believe simply doesn't give a damn about your pets.
Happy to be moving elsewhere - one with more than 15x the # of reviews The Neighborhood Vet has and more positive. Also came highly recommended (after a Facebook post I made) from more than 5 friends.
My dog is my best friend and like a kid to me. Don't treat him well, and allowing him to go days without his pain medication? Yeah that tells me you don't care. Even asked why their system wouldn't prompt them to call me to schedule the liver/blood/exam, etc. days prior to the prescription refill to which they could not reply. Then, they can't see your dog for a week - nor will they refill the prescription - so the dog is just left without his medicine. Very sad, Dr. Taylor, and disappointed in you and your establishment's care for my dog. Best of luck - and I highly recommend you consult with an outside IT firm to get a good system in place...

The vet office has a small town vet feeling to it. Everyone is warm and welcoming. They helped me apply for a heath credit card to get my Moonie the treatment he needs. The support staff and the veterinarian are awesome. The veterinarian taught me how to give my cat pills. I was really happy how they worked with Moonie. It is obvious he truly loves animals and advocates with the owners for their best welfare. The prices for services weren’t more than anywhere else and cheaper than some.

We have been going here for 8 years now. Great vet! They don’t nickel and dime you like a lot of places these days. They don’t force you to do unnecessary tests just to make money off of you. Great place and excellent care for your fur babies!

Our dog had surgery on his leg and got fixed there and we had a great experience. We bought heart guard there during that time and I called to follow up to get more to see if I needed to bring him in or if I was still in the window to buy more medication. I was told they had everything in the system and to come purchase more. Drove 45 minutes and got there and stated he needed to be retested and wouldn’t sell me any and I simply asked why someone wouldn’t have told me that and the old lady at the front was rude telling me they had nothing on my dog after we spend 3,000 there on surgery and medications . Communication issues .

We don't have pets of our own yet due to allergies but my daughter is a magnet for lost/stray dogs. The staff has gone above and beyond to help us find chips and help us find owners. They've opened after hours and done full checks for safety of my family with these strange animals. We'll be using them when we finally are able to get a dog!

Earl W. 11 Dec 2023 I highly recommend this vet and his very professional staff. I Took my Lucy there for severe limp in back leg and after X-rays she was diagnosed with a severed ligament. She was operated on a few days later and now, one week after that, she is almost good as new. I am so relieved and happy she is doing so well. The doctor treated her as if she were his own dog. The entire staff was very friendly, and showed true empathy to Lucy and I. I will be going to this vet from now on. I highly recommend The Neighborhood Vet at 4103 Reidsville Road.
