Been here many times in the past.
, but today was different. Staff member made me feel like a thief. This staff member felt the need to take the items I had selected to “hold behind the counter“ while I’m standing in line to make the purchase. Seemed strange because I was next in line to make the purchase.
When ever I visit, I always show my Id and interact with staff in friendly manner. At 58 years old, I have made a life long habit of not being furtive when I’m patronizing anyone’s store.
So today’s interactions were a little discouraging because despite how much I thought I was a regular customer, it appears im nothing more than a thief in the eyes of the staff .

So, this is a great shop with great selection and customer service. I wish to emphasize that the employees are friendly and helpful. However, my rating is one star. That is because sometimes their credit card terminals freeze or something. This happened to me and as a result my card was charged. Since the terminal froze the transaction did not appear in the store's posted transactions. My bank couldn't issue any stop payment or charge back, saying I had to settle this with the merchant. And Smokey Shay's wouldn't refund my money or provide me with the merchandise I paid for. I was directed to an email to try to speak with someone who would authorize the refund. They told me I had to get he bank to do it. So here we are a week later. I haven't heard anything from smokey shays. I won't be returning and I suggest that anyone shopping there be aware that if anything goes wrong with this buisness' equipment that results in a loss for the customer, they will not work to reconcile this loss. And I just cannot out of principle give any company my business if they aren't willing to seek restitution for an error by their equipment.
Update: I removed my previous update. I am not interested in argument. This attitude that it's my problem because I don't have an "actual bank card" is precisely my point. Their machine created the problem and they aren't taking responsibility for it. With this kind of policy in place I can't out of principle show there and I believe it's worth warning others.

The selection here is huge! The employees are eager to assist and seem knowledgeable about what they’re selling. They have a loyalty card that earns you $ off, too. Cool spot ?

Been going there for over a decade. They recently have started a policy that you have to show ID when you come into the door. I have been compliant with this policy but last time I went, a girl apparently asked for my girlfriend and I to show ID and because she was wearing a mask and mumbling, we didn’t hear her. She then rudely came up to us demanding ID and when I said “ok one minute” she replied”no not one minute give me your ID NOW”, as I was reaching for my wallet. I have been treated badly a few other times when I come in wearing things that someone conservative would have on so I can only assume that’s the reason. If you support America, these are probably not the people you want your money to go to.
Edit: You have terrible reading comprehension. I didn’t say anything about my political stance leading to me having to show ID. Your employee was insanely disrespectful and from the looks of it I’m not the only one who has experienced this. I also have been met with hostility wearing things that promote the Republican Party on multiple different occasions and it’s not even a question.

This is a five star review that has changed I’ve been a customer here for years! I’ve been through 6 ash catches this year the quality of glass has gone way down hill I also bought a slide and the hole is to small everytime you use it you have to clear it

Visited this shop a couple of days ago. I do not really care about the ID thing… but i felt very judged and ignored by the staff. The vibe wasn’t welcoming whatsoever. The store is also pretty chaotic and when I looked around, most staff seemed to be goofing off or talking to each other. There are better places in Winston to go. Selection is decent at least, even if hard to navigate at times.
Update: Revisited and still completely unimpressed. Terrible vibes and felt unwelcome and rushed by staff.

Can't leave much a review other than the fact we made it in the door to look around store looked nice we were greeted but then asked to see our IDs, most places don't ask for that until you check out, I would have loved to look around even if I wasn't buying anything, girl that asked for my id was extremely rude about it. Someone definitely needs to teach the employees about customer service. And with reading the other reviews I'll just go to the store down the street, I had a much better and pleasant service from them. Sad to say I will not return to this store.

After being told to “stop playing with my miniature skateboard in the store because I might break something” (I was literally playing with a TECH DECK - a PLASTIC TOY) I was very rudely ignored over by a glass counter even though I asked for assistance when the store was empty.
Not until I got the skateboard BACK out did a store clerk come to ask if I was interested in making a purchase “because if not I would need to leave.”
Maybe don’t get high on your own supply.
