July 2024 by Marilyn Robarge
I called around 10:00 on Monday (yesterday) and asked for an appointment for a haircut either that afternoon or on Tuesday. I was told that Tess was available that day at 2:45 and I agreed to that time. A little later I received a text confirming the appointment at 2:45 on July 15 with Tess. A little later in the day I received a second text confirming the appointment. I made the 35 minute drive from my home and arrived at the salon at 2:35. I was then told that they did not have any record of an appointment for me. The receptionist told me that she about an hour earlier set up an appointment for someone else at 2:45 with Tess. The receptionist conferred with Tess and they agreed to stick with the later appointment with the other woman even after I showed the receptionist the confirmation texts on my phone. My choices were to either wait around for an opening or reschedule. After driving 25 miles just for that appointment I was not interested in either option. For many years I was a client of a stylist at that location of Ego Hour until her death. I was always treated warmly and well all of those years. My experience yesterday was not what I would have expected. I will not be back.

Wow after going to Ego Hour for over 20 plus year I'm official done. Corrine did my hair today and was extremely rude the whole. Almost like a child having a fit because they didn't want to do something. It was weird. The color and cut she did was a best first year cosmetology student level. Great Clip would have done better. And as always the front desk employee was EXTREMELY rude. Nothing new there. Don't waste your time or money.

It was a great experience, I am always scared to try new places and people, to cut my hair. But Ty took her time to ask what I wanted and gave me some suggestions on how I’ll look better!! My husband gave me some complements when I got home..
definitely coming back !

I made my first appointment for a hair cut at this location and was excited to try a new salon. I made the appointment by phone and received two text confirmations. But when I showed up for my appointment, the staff had no record of my appointment. The staff claimed that the owner's name is the same as mine, and so they mixed us up. None of that makes any sense. Why would the owner of the salon have to call to make an appointment? And why would she need a text confirmation? And did no one notice that my number is a TOTALLY DIFFERENT phone number than hers? These people are disorganized morons. Would not recommend if you value your time.

Walked-in for only a haircut two hours before close on Sunday to find no availability at the salon or the other two locations. Made an appointment for Monday at 6pm before going out of town for a week on Tuesday. I get off work at 5pm and was willing to drive 40 minutes back to the salon from there for this appointment. I was called at 4:45pm to ask if I could move my appointment time to 6:15pm or to another day because the client ahead of me needed more time. Since I couldn’t change the day I took the appointment for 6:15pm, no problem. I was called at 5:45pm when I was already on the way to the appointment to tell me my appointment was cancelled because my stylist had gone home sick. There were no more available appointments at any of the other locations. If I had been told during the first phone call that the stylist was sick I could have possibly had time to schedule at another location or another salon. The salon should have been more upfront and truthful about the situation.Edit: I came in originally on Saturday, not Sunday. That was a mis-type on my end. Either way, not being able to have a walk-in appointment on the weekend was not my issue with this salon. My issue was that I could have made alternate arrangements for a haircut had I been given the proper information in a timely manner. Poor communication from the salon during the first phone call. Even worse during the second. I would have loved to schedule for a day when I got back from my trip. However, Sherry the receptionist was rude and dismissive when I was trying to figure out how my appointment went from “moved due to the client ahead of me” to “cancelled because your stylist has already gone home sick” in the span of an hour, while driving to my appointment. She should not be the first impression for anyone interested in this salon. Did the stylist run out before finishing the clients hair before me? My appointment was cancelled at 5:45pm because the stylist had already left even though I was told the person ahead of me would need until 6pm for their appointment. There was more than enough time to properly inform me of the situation during the first phone call. I do hope the stylist recovers quickly, as I understand people get sick and I respect her protecting the health of her clients. I do not respect the business practices of the salon who chose to lie to me during the first phone call and show a complete lack of regard for customer service in the second. I was more than flexible with what the salon had available and I was given nothing but the run around. If I can not trust your staff to make appropriate arrangements for appointments I do not trust your staff to cut my hair.

I'm pretty simple when it comes to getting my hair done - I never get any color, just a basic shampoo/cut/blowdry - but I love seeing Julie at this location! She always listens to me and makes sure that I'm happy with the length and angle of my hair as she's cutting and styling it. She's also just an all-around sweet person and I enjoy the few times I see her every year! I'd highly recommend her.

Tess helped me go from mid back hair to a short layered bob with bangs! I absolutely love my hair cut, it's just what I wanted!

I'm 16 and have the biggest fear of getting my hair cut, i've had it cut twice professionally through my whole life and 1 of those times i was severely disappointed (not at EgoHR), the lady told me multiple times i wouldn't like the length of the cut i asked for or the style, (shoulder length, choppy layers, short ish curtain bangs) she left me with my long hair and didn't wash me after telling me to come early to be washed! Now i went to EgoHr and had bobbi and i absolutely loved her! She made me super comfortable through the whole process asking me if i was comfortable and holding my hair certain ways so i could see a little bit of what it looked like before she cut it, there was no awkward silences and she had amazing conversation skills, i will definitely be asking for her more!i will say that some of the women were very unprofessional and problematic in front of me and my mom, one of the women came up and started opening my hair dressers drawers and practically accusing her of stealing her hair brush that had her name on it, my hair dresser obviously was a little uncomforted by this and so were me and my mom. The conversation shifted quickly and went right back to amazing! the staff was definitely clickly and that was a little uncomforting.Their "level system" was also a little weird because bobbi is considered a "level 1" stylist even though she had previous experience with hair, hearing that made me a little anxious because level 1 sounds inexperienced but she did amazing!!!before is what the first lady did and the second is what bobbi did (i showed them the same inspiration pictures by the way)

I just moved to the Winston-Salem area and am very careful with my selection of hair salons. After reading reviews and doing my research I was booked with Tess who did a full highlight touch up and cut on my hair! She was so much fun to talk to, and took her time to make sure I felt comfortable and that my hair turned out perfectly… and that it is! Attached are my before and after.. I feel like a new woman, and will be returning!!

I went in without an appointment after reading the glowing reviews here of others who were accommodated without an appointment. I was turned away. There was nothing available for the remaining 2.5 hours until they close. I’m disappointed as I’d heard great things but they apparently aren’t taking new clients.

Really chill little salon tucked away in a convenient spot but not taken over by the hustle and bustle of the city. Tess was pretty great. She was cool to talk to and knowledgeable about my hair and very honest about what we could do and how it would look. I’ve been watching clients walk in all day and every time they had a smile for their stylist and a rapport that clearly says they’re repeat customers happy with their experience. If you’re looking for down to earth and pleasant, not judgmental and easygoing, with fairly decent prices than this is a good spot to go to.

In town for a wedding and scheduled a wash and blow dry. Bobbi listened, asked questions, and the end result was exactly what I wanted. She was quick, efficient, and positive fun. I would definitely return!

I love Ego Hour- I have been going there for years and seeing the same stylist, Hunter. I recently got married and had balayage done a week prior by Morgan and I am still obsessed with it almost a month later. Kaden did my wedding hairstyle and it was gorgeous! Everyone there is friendly and extremely good at what they do!
