Jay is awesome! Went in today considering replacing my (very) well-used turntable. He thoroughly and patiently showed me his stock, explaining options versus cost in an honest way that’s rare these days. I went for a Pro-Ject Evo Carbon, and having sat here now for a few hours going through some of my old records… nailed it. It’s the perfect fit for me. My records sound TREMENDOUSLY better and less noisy, and I didn’t have to break the bank to get a unit that matches (or likely over-performs) my home setup and my own ears. Jay set the entire unit up while I ran some other errands and wouldn’t let me pay until I came back, heard it, and was satisfied. Glad he did, because there’s no way my fat clumsy fingers could have managed to knot the wire on the anti-skate weight. He was super thorough in his demo, and answered all of my questions about maintenance and record-cleaning before I even asked. Can’t recommend highly enough! Also… there’s a doggo. So bonus points for that.

No Hard Selling, No Upselling, Custom Hi-Hi Listens to the customers needs and wants, and personal situations. This local gem of a shop run by an honest extremely knowledgeable sales people, who will try to help you find out the answer to your question if they unable answer it directly. This shop, and its owner Jay, are superb!Jay is a massive wealth of Hi-Fi knowledge that stretches back to the heyday of analogue hi-fi in the 70’s to the most high-end modern Stereo (and multi-channel) systems of today. Store accepts trade-ins (on high-end equipment), which can make your purchase that much easier to fit within your budget. They have a full array of high quality new (and used, I bought my GoldenEar Speakers set-up from him 5 years ago, and some floor Tritons this year and they have been flawless. A. woofer cable broke and he replaced it no questions asked) product that can be demoed in the store’s listening room for multiple product comparison in a relaxed and casual manner. Jay is the nicest guy who will not upsell into something you don’t need. Great listener, honest business man. Has given me loads of free advice on setting up my Dolby multi speaker 7.2.4 Atmos system (which I wish to only run as a 7.1.2 system). If you want the resource of hi-fi experience, this shop is the way to go to meet your listening needs.

Great source of information and knowledge. I told him I was not wanting to spend a lot of money just getting back into the sound world. He gave me ideas of items to fit my budget. I would highly recommend.

I came in here after being referred, Jay was very helpful and listened to what I needed and wanted! He was very attentive to my needs and helped work with me on what I wanted and was looking for! I bought everything, he took my word and got it ready. I came a few hours later and picked up and took home, hooked up and tested in my room. It was PERFECT! I am very happy and don't frown about a dollar spent here. It is worth every penny and to have the insightful help that only his knowledge and experience can provide! Also, support local!!!! Love this place, it will be my go to now I know they are there!

When it comes to audio, I have champagne taste and a beer budget. So going into "Hi-Fi" stores always make me a bit nervous because I want tube amps and can afford solid state. Heading to Custom Home Hi-Fi to look for a turntable for my wife, I was worried that I would be shown a bunch of $2,500 models I could not afford. My experience could not have been more different than my fears. Jay Moore greeted me, listened to my needs ("my wife is getting into vinyl and I need a turntable for her to play through our Sonos system"), and recommended two models for me. The one I chose based on his recommendation, a Denon DP-300 automatic, was under $400. Not only that, but Jay fully set the turntable up for me and tested it in the store. When I returned to pick it up, he gave me a thorough walk through on how it works and also showed me the best way to clean albums. He also let me know that some new vinyl albums are 12" but play at 45 RPMs, which is different from the olden times. Although he is not a Sonos authorized dealer, Jay helped me to determine the best way to get my wife's new turntable connected to our Sonos. He even loaned me a cable to do so. All in all, I can't recommend Jay and Custom Hi-Fi more highly. A great asset to our local community.

Jay and Co., at Custom Home HiFi have put in as many years into their craft as any hometown hero HiFi shop, and it shows. I own another HiFi shop in this town, and Jay's clients (the ones we share) have nothing but the best things to say, and Jay himself has been a welcoming, positive cohort.
They go fairly deep into two-channel, and also offer an extensive amount of HT design and installation. It's a lot to do both well, and they do. That shows experience and commitment.
Their lines are well-chambered for the local market, and they can handle a wide variety of clients, from the entry level on up. As someone in this industry, I see the thought he's put into his stock lines, and the loyalty of his clients - and am happy to have such a rad, professional shop to share this town with.
If you're starting your hunt for HiFi or HT solutions, skip the mass market shops and give these cats a call. They'll do right by you.

Great little audio shop that stocks Prima Luna, Wharfedale Heritage, as well as EVO, Paradigm Reference, etc. Super relaxed, personal environment. I picked up a pair of Linton Heritage speakers from them and I’m more than pleased. Glad I made the drive from the RDU area to support a local shop, as opposed to buying online. It was a pleasure meeting these gents and I can’t thank them enough.

The last audio dealer in Winston-Salem. Jay is great to deal with and he carries nice lines from budget up to higher end gear.
