Says they’re open 24 hours Sunday through Tuesday and you call and can’t get anybody on the line quite irritating

I started volunteering here about a month ago. The people are amazing and the dogs are just as you would expect. Half of them are hesitant to meet new people which is understandable. But once you get to know them it is amazing to see their true personality. There is one dog in particular I have been working with every morning. She was so timid didn't want to come to me at all. But after almost 3 weeks she came up to me out of the blue and laid in my lap. I almost cried seeing the dog that wouldn't even let me open her kennel without crouching down and tucking her tail to her running and playing and rolling over for a belly rub. As for the owners. They are amazing and love the dogs they have. Max has dementia which causes him to concern others with how he speaks but he means no harm. Della is the sweetest old lady you will ever meet. They take care of the dogs the best they can. They do for the dogs whatever they may need. The volunteers are so kind. They welcomed me and I get a thank you for coming and helping at least 4 or 5 times a week. If you are looking to adopt a pet it would be the best of interest to keep in mind some of these dogs have suffered trauma. Some may act a certain way in the kennel and completely different when outside of it. There are a few dogs that act aggressive in the kennel which can make people nervous but as soon as you get them out of the kennel they are amazingly different. Every dog has a different personality. A lot of them you have to see in person to see their true self. Don't go based on just a picture. Last thing. Whoever said that Max asked for money to take in dogs is a complete lie. We have taken in over 10 dogs in just the past month I have been there and all they ask for is complete honesty of why you are surrendering the dog. Don't believe all the reviews you read. They really do try their best to keep this place up and running and they do everything in their power to keep the dogs safe and give them everything they need.

The only good thing that came out of this was my dog. The owners came for a home visit. We passed. Our dog was delivered to us by the trainer. She stayed 3 hours with us to go over everything. We paid. I came back to let our pup have a play date. Everything was fine. Max then confronted me, cussed me like a dog, and kept trying to get closer and closer to me but the trainer stepped in. Max then said I can’t can’t have my dog until I “fix my fence”. He took my dog from me. He put my dog in his home. He tried to throw money at me and cuss me again. His wife tried to intervene but was told to shut up by him. While I was trying to explain the dog was legally mine I was told by Max “we can go to court I love court” I walked away. We had to call the police in order to get my dog back. Max then proceeded to fire his dog trainer for helping to get my dog back. I’m thankful for all the staff, humane society, and Wilson PD for helping me get my boy back. The owners do care about their animals. But this isn’t how you do business. To be so hateful and steal someone’s pet is something I’ll never understand. They were great to work with up to the point they stole him and his him. The animals are well taken care of and loved just be very careful.

I called repetitive to no answer nor a machine. I had a solution for the lack of volunteers... but I guess after they failed their inspection twice within 2 months, I cant help them if they arent willing to help themselves

This is the best place because they really care about dogs and cats. They are not in it for money. In the last 12 years I have taken two injured dogs to them and they have taken the dogs in and treated them for their injuries. I highly recommend donating to this rescue organization.
