Overall, reviews are good for the Sound Cat, so hopefully our experience was not typical, but I just cannot recommend. We brought in an older cat we've fed for a long time, because she appeared to have an infection in her forehead. (She arrived as a stray--pretty feral--stayed in the area, and gradually has spent more time around our house as she's aged. We couldn't consider making her an indoor cat because we had two elderly cats with whom it simply wouldn't have worked. They have since passed away, but this one has remained an outdoor cat. It's a safe environment from cars, and she now comes in and out to visit.)
Overall, we felt pressured by the vet. In spite of our explaining the circumstances, he repeatedly suggested we should try to make her an indoor cat. (He wouldn't be the one listening to her crying to get outside...) We consented to testing her for feline leukemia and something else, but resisted his pressure to do a full blood workup at $180. We told him we just wanted the infection lanced, drained and cleaned, and antibiotics administered and prescribed, as we had been out of town and the person feeding her hadn't seemed to notice it developing.
He said she had to be put fully under for this, and also that he would have to put in a shunt. During this process, he came back repeatedly for one thing or another, including telling us she would need almost all her teeth removed, including an abcessed one that was likely very painful.
Close to $500 later we left, and had to borrow a crate from a neighbor to keep her indoors for the night due to her recovering from anesthesia. He told me to bring her back three days later to have the shunt removed, and after getting there and waiting, was told by another vet that it was too early and I should have waited. (This wasn't a short trip, and it was unnecessary stress on the cat.) I went back again, shunt was removed, and within a short period of time, in spite of having faithfully administered the full course of antibiotics, an infection began developing at the spot where one end of the shunt protruded.
This time, I took her to the vet I had used for my previous cats (hadn't been able to go there initially because they were short a vet and it would have taken too long.) He took care of the infection without having to anesthetize her--put her in an oxygen tank, instead, which saved us money and made her recovery quicker--and further told us that she didn't have an abcessed tooth at all. He said the tooth in question was just cracked, and since it was a canine, he didn't recommend removing it if it wasn't bothering her, which it didn't appear to be. He further said a cleaning would be a good idea, but she didn't need extractions.
With the exception of the vet himself, we didn't find the Sound Cat's staff to be particularly friendly, which was a marked contrast to the vet's office where we took the cat for the re-infection.

We love The Sound Cat. Our Dr Williams is the best. She has nothing but love and compassion for all the cats. The team is excellent, they are so nice and friendly. We've had a few interactions with Dr. Gervais, who is also very nice and helpful. We come from Jacksonville every 6 months (our babies are seniors). We won't trust anyone else to care for them.

It's incredibly relaxing to know the cats have such a comprehensive and knowledgeable clinic with multiple excellent vets available if they need them. In house ultrasound alone is worth it's weight in gold.

I love coming here and it's made such a huge difference in my cats physical health. She actually enjoys coming to the vet. I love our current vet, Rosemarie Williams, and she does such an amazing job all around. I couldn't ask for a better place. It's definitely worth a drive from Jacksonville
