I have rented from this location 6 times this year. Each time the folks here are very nice and helpful. Very short lines if any and the cars a clean. One time I forgot my watch in the car. They found it and held on to it for me until I came back for my next trip. Thank you Thomas!

When you know you have an evening flight and need 10-15 cars, maybe just have them ready. Shouldn’t have to wait an hour for someone to bring a car. Would not recommend this location at all.

Im an Emerald member! I specifically booked a Jeep for the beach. Reserved, called to confirm and received a text about pick up time. Drive 45 minutes to get to counter at ILM 30 people deep! service was quick. Got to the counter to be told not available until evening! only tented for 2 days! I will let my Emerald expire! the lady was rude, not very apologetic and this was for our once a year family vacation in the off season! very disappointing! wasted 2 hours of my day!!!

I don't even understand how other car rental companies exist. I rent cars for travel on average 3 times a month (at least half through the National Car Rental out of ILM - Wilmington International Airport in Wilmington, NC) and ALWAYS have an EXCELLENT experience. The cars are always clean and the employees are kind, courteous and personable. Knowing that this will be my experience renting from National, that is one less thing I have to worry about on my business travels!

My experience at National Wilmington was far from the norm that I’ve grown to expect and love out of all the locations I frequent across the country.I chose to use one of my award days for this rental and selected the most “expensive” class so I could have the pick of available vehicles (baby and extra large bike bag in tow). Even the reservation email says skip the counter, but you can’t at this location.They had a nice Cadillac set aside for me. I asked before walking out if it was an suv or something large enough for my cargo. The lady helping me said it was an suv.The vehicle was a little sports car.I came back in and chatted about my challenge with the car and the lady told me there was nothing she could do. I explained again it wouldn’t fit my luggage needs and provided numerous stall numbers of vehicles that could work. She said again that she couldn’t rent me any other vehicle besides this one reserved because it was one way.I asked her if she had any other ideas to help me solve my problem and she suggested that I try one of the competitors next to her...I called national and made a separate reservation, when I came back inside she was magically able to swap out the first Cadillac with the new reservations truck rather than starting a second rental.From my perspective this experience is either a corporate policy failure limiting the associate decision making power, a management issue not empowering their employees, or this associate was just having a bad day/stubborn and wanted to throw an extra hour and a half wrench into someone’s busy travel day while my wife and baby waited.

Let’s start by saying this is entirely based on my last two consecutive experiences. I have 52 days on 6 rentals, averaging a little more than 8 days per rental. The last two rentals I asked to have a different card billed. I removed the cards I no longer wants billed from the app. It appears whatever is on file when you make the reservation WILL be billed. I get it! I don’t like it, but I get it. The last two visit upon picking the car up I was told no problem we can change the cars when you return. Upon returning the car I told the card was billed, I say can I have that changed? Each time I’m directed to a booth in another section of the return lot. At 5am there is no one in the booth. I am trying to maximize my rewards points on a particular card, so it is not the end of the world. I would like to be told what can really be done versus the standard practice. I understand the guy checking in cars may not know whose working the booths or if any one is working the booth. Fix it when I arrive, because it has never been fixed on the return. Unfortunately I have a very long rental coming up and I made the reservation with this exact same card. I’ll change my rewards election and get the best deals I can. I just hoped National could do a little more than heard people on and off the lot

I travel a lot and rent often from National (Executive Emerald member status). Every time I make a reservation online, I have to follow-up with a separate phone request for hand controls as I cannot drive with foot pedals. Unfortunately, I run into problems frequently, and often have to get an Uber from the airport even though I have a reservation with a documented request for hand controls. This was the case the last time I rented. If you need hand controls, as many Americans do, you likely will experience a problem. If National is looking for ways to improve, this is a good one which would help ensure reliable transportation for all customers, including those with disabilities.
