Rented Car from Hertz in Wilmington, NC. Returned car full of gas. Got bill next day adding a fuel surcharge. I asked rep for photo of fuel gauge, she sent me a photo showing the gauge at full. Told her I thought this was "nickle-dimey". She must of taken exception to that comment, because about an hour later, I got a bill for "cleaning surcharge" of $250.00. She said there was pet hair in vehicle. I assured her that not only did I not have a pet in the car, I did not even have a dog. She sent me photos that maybe were an extremely small amount of dog hair. I told her that was probably indicative of the poor cleaning from prior rentals. I rent from this location often, and ironically this was probably one of the cleaner cars I have ever gotten. I have tried to resolve with a local regional manager, to no success. I called corporate Hertz customer service and was told this was a franchise location and there was not much they could do about it. I tried to google the franchise to get contact info, there was no info available. At this point in time, I am forced to issue dispute with my credit card company. I am requesting a refund of $250.00 in cleaning fees, $12.45 in fuel surcharge, and the initial $182.99 rental fee. Getting a resolution to this has taken way too much of my time and energy.

If only I could leave Zero stars! AVOID THIS LOCATION AS THEY ARE INDEPENDENTLY OWNED AND HERTZ WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THE CUSTOMER AND SIDE WITH THESE THIEVES. FORMER I'm a former Gold Card member after years of business travel and was always loyal to Hertz. We rented a minivan from the Wilmington airport location to take our grandkids on a dream vacation to Orlando. I chose an airport location due to their typical ease of picking up and dropping off. On the last day of our trip, ee got a flat and suddenly realized the van had no spare. On hold for 42 minutes with the crappy customer service and finally resolved the situation ourselves, paying $25 flat repair. Upon return, we told the agent about the tire and asked for the $25 for the repair. Not only did they say "not our problem" but then went on to charge a cleaning fee for a vehicle turned into them cleaner than we received. And they charged for gas when we returned a full tank of gas. They offer NO CHECK IN process using a human so rather than any other Hertz experience I've ever had where they confirm gas and assess the vehicle, they wait, claim its dirty and has no gas. I have proof that we cleaned the van and they still won't refund their fee. So doing complaint with NC Attorney Generals office of consumer affairs. AVOID AVOID AVOID

Rent a brand new Dodge Charger for several days. Refueled and returned car. Several days later got a bill that I did not refuel in full and more than 4 gal shy. I refueled at a gas station about one mile from the airport. It is inconceivable that I missed so much. Do not rent from this place!

Please video of your mileage and fueling. I was charged for fuel several times. And I would fuel up nxt door to the point fuel was coming out the car. The excuse I get was car have " these cars have flat gas tanks. So when you hear the first click it's not full." So apparently there's an extra 2 gals just lingering around? GTFOH

I hate the worst experience with Enterprise this morning and called Hertz trying to find a rental car while my car is being repaired. We spoke with Jackson and then Ashley and both of them were absolutely amazing! They had wonderful customer service and fantastic attitudes! They really came through and saved the day especially after such a horrible experience with enterprise. Thank you both!!!

Returned a car on October 7th they took it to Philadelphia and dint return it until October 15th and re trying to charge me an extra 1100$$$ absurd

I was unable to contact this agency for days. Even though I enlisted the aid of Corporate, they were unable to reach them either. Messages left were unanswered. I wish I had read reviews of them before renting a car.

First, we were given a smaller car than we'd put on our reservation. 2nd, we were told by the agent who processed our reservation at the location that since we had AAA we would NOT have to pay the extra driver fee BUT when we were checked out the next day we WERE CHARGED the fee! I called the location and asked for a refund, was told no at first because we had made the ressie via my Expedia account, I told them I would be coming down in person to talk to them about the refund. I quickly received a text from an agent stating I would have my refund within 2 weeks. It has been 2 weeks and NO REFUND to my AMEX card! Will NEVER RENT FROM HERTZ AGAIN! This is the 2nd time I've had issues with Hertz, there are other companies in town who I will rent from should the occasion arise again that I need a rental car.

Please make sure you read everything. I rented a car on July 3 and returned the vehicle on July 5, 2022, at a different location. I am still receiving charges ( August 18, 2022 ) .on my credit card; so far, I have paid $2, 098.00.

Local employees are very good, but try calling their local office and getting a real person on the phone. The automated system is designed to keep you away from help. Never again. And they screwed me over with hidden fees. Enterprise is ten times better. If you want a good review then let me talk to a human, it’s that simple.

I cannot speak for every location but the Market Street branch in Wilmington, NC is the absolute worst! I normally use Eneterprise but they did not have a 7 passenger vehicle available at the time I made the reservation (a month and a half out, by the way) so I ended up using one of our local Hertz locations. Pickup time was reserved for 8:30am because we were due to leave on our family trip at 10am. My husband and I drive together, I waited to make sure all was good. He came back to the car saying that our rental was not on the lot and has to be brought over from the airport and will take about 30 minutes. First red flag. We waited until 9am, went back inside, still no car. Mind you, the airport is only 10 minutes away. After about a ten minute wait, and watching the front desk clerk obnoxiously smacking her chewing gum with mouth wide open, I asked the "manager" (a 20 something smart-aleck) if I could ask him a question. My question: "You knew last night, when this office closed, that you would have a customer here at 8:30am to pick up a reserved vehicle. Why is this car not here and ready to go?" He then tried to man-splain the rental procedures to me without even answering the question. No regard for how much of our time he has/is wasting and not a care in the world for customer service. Finally, after 45 minutes past our pick-up time, a vehicle arrives on the lot. Not ours, but he's going to give us an "upgrade" because we had reserved a van and was upped to an SUV. Okay, whatever. Returned the vehicle 3 hours early on our due date then get a call that a claim has to made because there is "damage to the vehicle". The damage is a MINOR CHIP IN THE PAINT on the front bumper from typical driving on a mountain road. Now a claim has to be filed? We bought all of the extra insurance to cover ANYTHING on this vehicle and you want to file a claim for a dime sized chip in paint? Seriously will never use this company again nor will I ever recommend it!!

If you book on Priceline do not use a chime credit or debit card. They cannot accept or cancel your reservation so they say. When I called Priceline to get my refund I was transferred to hertz and refund will be recieved in 7-10 business days. You would think they would call you immediately to reverse the transaction but that doesn’t happen either.
