I wish that I could leave less than 1 star. I recently spent a lot of money with them buying yard equipment and other items for our new home. Afterward, I got a call several days later saying they had items we forgot. Today, I realized it was a ploy to get me back in the store as they thought an item in our order was not paid for. I needed to get a few more things this afternoon, and having thought my experience was one that went well before, I returned there. Upon entering, I asked where the item I needed was located and headed in that direction. After finding what I needed, I headed to check out. I was greeted in the aisle by 2 employees who blocked my way and told me I needed to leave and never return as they thought I had left their store previously without paying for my entire order. I explained that I did not realize and offered to pay the balance and liked shopping there because it was convenient to where I stay. I was also purchasing another sizable order right then. I was told they had taken out papers and would be pressing charges against me. Again I tried to pay the balance and check out, but was thrown out and received nasty comments and had one lady taking pictures of me like it was ok to put her phone directly in my face on my way to the door. This store was a go-to for me but will never get another cent from me again. They are rude, accusatory, and flat out disrespectful. I don't recommend shopping here.

Just to be upfront, I always try and be fair and unbiased when I leave reviews. Having said that, I stopped by the store on a Saturday because I needed a copy of two separate keys made. They are not your standard keys and require those specialty machines and blanks that only Ace Hardware would have. Now typically when I go into an Ace Hardware there is usually an employee ready to greet me asking me what my needs are. So nobody was there to do that. Fine, no big deal. But I have to go right to the checkout area because my need is to have keys be made and that is behind the register. Well the line was already a few people long and it only got longer to the point where there are six of us waiting in line to check out. The young man who was manning the register did not appear to know what he was doing. It turns out there were a couple other customers who needed keys made and he was having problems locating the proper key blank. There appear to be a female manager or team leader on hand who was not dressed appropriately for work. If you get my gist. So, this manager appeared to be the only person that knew how to make copies of keys. Despite them having two different machines, only one person could make the keys. When it’s finally my turn, I provide her with the two keys and after looking around at the key machine she tells me that they don’t have the key for one of them but they have the key for the other. Something about she could make copies of both keys I had but it would have to be in the more expensive machine. I had to figure this out for myself because she didn’t properly explain it. So anyways, I get the copies of the keys and they work. And that’s the only reason I’m giving them two stars instead of one. In this day and age, when Ace Hardware wants you to shop from them instead of the big guys like Lowe’s and Home Depot, they need to step up. Their ads state that they provide better service because they are the place of the helpful hardware folk. They also claim to be your local neighborhood hardware store. Well, if you’re going to claim to that, then you need to have enough staff on hand to handle the traffic on a Saturday and people who know what the heck they are doing. Maybe they had a rough day and this is not normal. But hey I’ll use that old cliché. You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression. Especially on a Saturday.

I’ve been a Steven’s customer since 2004, when it was a privately owned shop on Castle Street. Though it’s since been acquired by Ace Hardware, you’d never know it was part of a chain. The people who work there have always been friendly, helpful and professional. Margaretha especially will go out of her way to help me find what I need, offer great advice and suggest things I’d never thought of.
Steven’s is a rare gem in Wilmington. Unless you need something they don’t carry - which isn’t much - there’s no reason to go to the big box stores. Frankly, it’s my favorite store of any kind in the Wilmington area!

They helped me find a screw I needed that seemed hard to find when I went to Home depot. I really appreciated it.

The only place in town that had what I was looking for. A lot of unique merchandise. Asked for help and the associate knew exactly where to find the item I was looking for.

I needed to have keys made. I didn't have to wait in line. I tested them when I got home and they all worked.

My favorite place to find... everything! They have everything you would expect and loads you would never guess. I go here unless there is absolutely no way of making what they have work.. which has only happened twice in like 8 years!
