For 45 years, Upstairs Artspace has been bringing to Tryon the kind of cutting-edge art you might only see in big cities like New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. ??

Simply fantastic. The original artwork here is always expertly chosen and beautifully displayed. The curator definitely takes great care in selecting each piece. The displays are constantly changing, but here's a snapshot of what I saw on my most recent visit: -exquisite oil painting of a crazed woman devouring chocolate cake -breathtaking acrylic interpretations of the beautiful blue and green North Carolina countryside -intricately carved, interlocking wooden spheres -yellow and red glazed abstract pottery Highly recommended. Oh, and if you can, attend one of the Literary Open Mics. The stories read at the most recent open mic blew me away! I can't wait to go back.

This little gallery is a real treasure in downtown Tryon. The ambience and interior design is similar to that of more upscale galleries in local art meccas such as Asheville and Hendersonville or even high-end ski and resort towns like Park City and Aspen. The art is usually pretty good as well and generally priced fairly. They have a rotating selection of many styles of art in many different media types featuring excellent local and regional artists. Worth a stop-by if you are in Tryon and definitely worth the drive if you hear they are exhibiting your type of art.
