I came in to get goldfish with my neighbors kids. Alana went above and beyond in helping us. She let each child (4) pick out their fish individually in the tank of hundreds. She was kind and patient with each child, even commenting on how each fish was such a good choice. She made the experience so enjoyable.

I am here WAY too often thanks to my accident-prone boy, but not once has the staff made me feel like a burden. We can joke and laugh in the waiting area while waiting for an appointment, and they are always incredibly understanding. I wouldn’t consider any of my animals “easy”. My cats want to kill everyone, my malinois acts like he’s never been trained a day in his life, yet the staff are always friendly and welcoming. It took me a very long time to find a vet hospital I liked: I worked in veterinary medicine for 8 years so my standards for qualify of care are quite high. Surf City Pet Hospital exceeds this expectations for me. I’d happily pay a little more for their quality and service. Their prices are fair, and they aren’t “pushing products” or making “money grabs”. There is always a reason a vet will recommend diagnostics, and it’s our job as a pet owner to listen to those recommendations and do what we can for our pets. I can’t imagine taking my pets anywhere else ❤️

Maine Lobstah Shack

Everything here was good. The lobster is fresh, never frozen. I enjoyed the traditional roll and ordered some soups to go. The staff brought free samples of the lobster bisque and New England clam chowder as well as a dessert sample. Everything was delicious!

The staff and owner were exceptionally kind and caring, I loved talking to the owner and the manager (Roxy). Everyone was so kind, the atmosphere was great, and the coffee was one of the best coffees I've had in a while. I would definitely recommend coming here, you are sure to leave with a smile!

Kid-friendliness: They make sure to cater towards kids too, with having sweet things towards them (like sharks teeth they can take and free gumballs). Very kind!

Salty Turtle Beer Company

Came to Surf City for a day while on vacation and came across this place. I’m not a beer drinker, but my husband is and we decided to stop and I’m glad we did.

The decor/atmosphere is out of this world. Everyone was so welcoming and nice.

My husband found a few beers he really enjoyed and we bought some to bring it home to share with friends. As I said, I am not a beer drinker, but their ciders and seltzers were really good! Highly recommend the mango pineapple. Blackberry is good too!

We also bought some merchandise and I can’t wait to wear the shirts!

This place also donates some of their money to save the turtles and that’s another reason why I like them!

If you are in the area, I highly recommend to check it out.

Shuckin' Shack Oyster Bar

Went to Shuckin' Shack tonight, 11/10/24. Our waitress was amazing (unfortunately did not catch her name) and the host/bartenders were very friendly as well.

Selection of six different raw oysters -- all from North Carolina. I opted for 4 of the Currituck raw oysters, which were amazing. Cost was anywhere from $3-$4 per oyster. We got the Seafood Trio sampler for the table; crab dip was delicious, shrimp were great as well. Calamari seemed a bit overdone, but that's fine, stuff happens.

Finally, I finished off with the Grouper, which was a special for the day. Was very good -- wish they would have fish grilled instead of so many deep-fried options, though. Regardless, there wasn't anything to complain about in regards to the Grouper.

Overall, great experience and will return next time I am in town for sure.

I almost walked away from this place based on reviews alone and boy and I glad I didn't. My husband and I came in for lunch and were immediately greeted by Calvin who was very friendly and explained the menu to us. After looking it over and reading through the reviews to see what the bigger complaints were we decided to give it a try. We were seated immediately and Calvin brought us waters and a yummy blue Hawaiian for me. For lunch we ordered the hushpuppies, a salad, a pound of shrimp with sausage added, and two clusters of snow crab. Everything was beyond delicious and perfect. The crab was excellent and cooked to perfection! It literally slid out of the shell which is exactly what it should do. We eagerly gobbled it all down and left with very satisfied tummy's. Calvin and sarah did a great job touching and serving us during our visit. I highly recommend looking past the low reviews and stopping by to enjoy this gem for yourself. Plenty of parking outside AND if you want to cook a boil at home the store directly behind the crab pot sells the goodies to take it home and boil it up for yourself!

This place is awesome! They have an amazing wine selection, large patio to enjoy them on, and Jeremy (owner?) is extremely kind. He gave my fiancée and I each a free Pinot noir, crackers, and cheese to enjoy in addition to the wine flights we ordered. Will definitely be back!

Pelican's SnoBalls of Surf City

We always try to grab snow cones whenever we go on beach trips, and this Pelican's is some of the best snow cones I've ever had. We've gone twice since we came out on this trip, and both times were fantastic. Michelle was our "snoball chef" both times, and she was just fantastic. We'll probably go again before we leave!
