I was charged twice for the same item and CATO refused to credit my charge! First of all, when I attempted to purchase an item on March 7, 2024 the register was "acting up" and the clerk told me that my purchase on my credit card did not go through because they were having problems with this register. This had happened a number of times prior to this date and after as well. After several attempts and 10 minutes later, the clerk directed me to the second register and told me to put my credit card in that machine, and assured me that the first purchase was "void." Although I had some doubts because I had to put my card in the second machine, I took her word for it that the first purchase did not go through. When I recently checked my credit card statement, I WAS charged TWICE for the same item on March 7. Yesterday, when I brought in my credit card statement to the manager which showed that the same item had been charged twice, instead of apologizing, she actually denied multiple times that this could possibly happen, even though the statement was right there in front of her in black and white. Then after contacting someone by phone (after about 15 minutes) she admitted that my credit card WAS charged twice, but said that she did not have the authority to give me a refund of $24.54. I told her that if I had to fight this charge with my credit card company, she was going to lose a very loyal customer who usually buys at least one item every week. Her response was, and I quote, "That's OK." When I told her I intended to file a complaint and asked for an email address, first she said she did not have that information and the sales clerk standing next to her said, "Look it up online."The manager finally did write down the district manager's name and email, but later, when I attempted to email the District Manager, Amy Confora, it was a non-working email address! So after 30 minutes of standing in the store there waiting for a refund I was told that the second credit card purchase (which was a mistake) would NOT be refunded and that someone would contact me eventually. This manager's attitude was one of contempt and disrespect for a customer who had a legitimate complaint which was brought to her attention. At no time did she say that she was sorry this had happened, and kept denying that it even could happen. She acted like I was trying to "pull something" by denying multiple times that a mistake could not possibly have been made on her register, (even though this machine had a problem on several occasions when I shopped there) and at one point told me that it was my credit card company at fault! I have never experienced such poor customer service anywhere else, especially from a retail store which I frequent once a week. I have spent thousands of dollars on clothing purchased at CATO during the past 14 years I have lived in the Southport area, but I guess I will have to find somewhere else to shop since my business in this store in apparently not appreciated.

Jamie was extremely helpful. I found at least 4 ot 5 things. I had an asthma attack when I was in the dressing room. She brought me water and was so nice. She immediately checked on me to see if she could help. I give this Cato an A plus.

Went in to refresh my wardrobe for fall and I could barely stomach opening the front door. The whole place smells like sewage! I can't belive they have the poor employees working in that STENCH. There's got to be a hazardous gas leak or RAW SEWAGE leaking somewhere.

I went into store to purchase clothing. While there, struggling to find items and correct sizes, the sales person just sat at counter, never smiled or spoke except to ask if I wanted a room. Didn't even bother to take the clothes. She only spoke when other cashier who was putting away clothes and a guy came in. Very disappointing. I would have bought more

My girlfriends wanted to check out the store and both were shopping casually. As an ex-retail associate to general manager have certain things about customer service that bother me! 1. 2 associates at the desk chatting 2. Was not even greeted when coming in and you can't see the door from the desk 3. When asking a question I was clearly interrupting their conversation about lunch 4. Apparently no one could make a desalination about lunch so she announced she bought everything form dollar store 5. Of the 5 customers in there for an hour is being 3 of them she only spoke to one a family friend Obviously I'm guessing a manager was not there and if they are management wow The only thing they did was bring our bag around the desk after we paid. Guessing this is not a true representation of the Cato Corporate brand. Maybe because a small beach town but still was an awful experience.
