Awesome place to see the neuse River especially when it's flooded. Big park lots or trails to choose from. In the summer definitely bring bug spray.

Shocking, but true. Apparently the lake is not open due to lack of workers. We visited a couple of days before July 4th and were very disappointed, and not even some restrooms were open! There was a sign posted seeking workers

Good walking trails. Nice elevated view of the Neuse River. Some of the trails are fairly long. You're going to want water in the summer. You can fish at the river bank here. Animals have to be leashed. The swimming area is still closed. I've been to just 1 of their night time trail walks. It was something the park organized. I don't know if they still do that. It may be posted on their site for special events. At any rate, it was nice.

Nice trails to walk or run. Really disappointed that we called ahead weeks ago about when kayak/swimming would be open and was told labor day weekend. Well we booked a few nights and brought all our water gear, only to be told the swim/ kayak rental is closed for the year due to staffing. Frustrating that's not a giant yellow or red banner on their website
Playground: None
Restrooms: Really nice
Dog-friendliness: There are some "dog parking" areas for when you go to the bathroom
Picnic area: Could be cleaned up a bit

Great camping and hiking. Lake was not open due to staffing shortages.

We had a picnic and when on a wonderful height to the cliffs. The place was clean and beautiful. Definitely going to go back when the swimming hole is open and I bought that floating divingboard. Can't wait to go back

I called and the swim area is closed for the 2024 season, due to lack of funding from our Thieving Government.
