MY APOLOGIES TO THE HIPPO INSURANCE STORE IN REIDSVILLE, NC -- THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE HIPPO INSURANCE COMPANY BASED IN PALO ALTO, CALIFORNIA DOING BUSINESS IN NC AND ELSEWHERE IN THE USStay as far away from Hippo Insurance COMPANY as you can!!I chose Hippo Insurance COMPANY (NOT Hippo Insurance STORE) to insure my home because they were the cheapest and had some really good additional/bonus coverages. On July 9th we had a water valve break on an upstairs toilet and flood my basement. I should have had an inkling of an idea as to what my claim experience was going to be like when I called in the claim and found out that I was responsible for arranging my own temporary living quarters, an emergency plumber's visit, and a restoration company to begin the drying out process. In the past when I'd had a claim like this, by the time I'd hung up the phone with my old insurance company, they had me set up in an extended stay hotel and a restoration company on the way. It took Hippo 4 days to get approval for a hotel. Then it would be almost 2 weeks before an adjuster could come out and survey the damage. On August 1st I was still waiting for a copy of the adjuster's report (after multiple requests) so I could line up a contractor and repair people.On August 8th I received an email that an said an electronic payment for my claim was being sent to my checking account and it would be available in about 30 minutes. Today is August 28th and I have yet to see that money. All work has stopped on my home because I've run out of my money to pay people. Yet Hippo says the payment cleared their bank on the 18th of August. Their paperwork shows a check number, but they still insist it was done electronically even though it took 10 days to clear. I can't get my adjuster or her manager to return my calls, so I've had to file a complaint with the Department of Insurance.BUYERS BEWARE - CHEAPER ISN'T ALWAYS BETTER!!

I called them for insurance quote. The agent stated my rates would be cheaper and my house note would decrease both were wrong, spoke with customer service rep. That was rude. 30 days later they called too tell me the policy would cancel in 3 weeks because the inspectors were denied entrance and then stated I didn't return the call. Both not true. I wouldn't recommend this agency too know one.

DO NOT USE THEM USE THEM IF YOU'RE IN THE HOMEBUYING PROCESS. We originally chose them because their rates were much cheaper than competitors, but their home inspection process and turnaround time is not accommodating to the homebuying process at all. They told us it would take 7 business days to review our inspection (most companies can have a rate the day of) and after 7 business days of trying to work with them we still didn't have a final quote. We had to go with another company to avoid missing our deadlines and pushing back closing.

Our power went out on all of our major appliances after moving into our new home about a week after moving in so we called the county electric company to come out and check the service. They did and let us know that our main service line had been compromised, something had to have cut the buried line. We immediately called Hippo insurance as this was an EMERGENCY SITUATION and there was no response. We called the electrician that the county electric company suggested and they came out the following day. They let us know that the main electric line had been compromised due to the recent heavy traffic on the property. We had to pay over $7,000.00 out of pocket after just moving into our home. The insurance company simply wants to deny, deny, deny. After talking with the electric company the insurance agent called and let me know that they don't cover the "dirt work" or digging portion and said that they still sont know what happened. I asked.and pleaded that they send a field adjuster out to dig up the old line and inspect it. The field adjuster (3rd party) arrived after driving 2.5 hours and was completely misguided and clueless as to what was going on. This was another HUGE waste of time. Hippo Insurance is the absolute worst company that I have ever dealt with. I have contacted our attorney and the Department of Insurance consumer services to handle this matter since I can no longer get any response from Hippo. We have left numerous messages and 0 response. They are completely acting in BAD FAITH and causing us mounting financial distress. This was an emergency situation that we had to pay out of pocket and due to their lackadaisical approach and non response has created a domino effect of financial hardship. We have contacted our attorney, the state insurance agency and our mortgage company. We need this resolved and then we need a new insurance company. Hippo Insurance is a fraud, bad faith company that has cost us thousands. They are the worst!

do not fall for this home insurance company. total rip-off. house value does not increase, they keep lowering down your coverage but the premium keeps going up...started at $1k and it is now close to $2k. just shop around and you will get a better deal...not worth it...

I had this company a few years ago and they paid a claim. I cancelled because they increased premium. Signed up again and it has been a nightmare to get a refund so I can go with another company. They are not well priced and the customer service leaves much to be desired.Good Luck getting someone who even speaks English. I do not reccomend.

July 20, My claims adjuster stated he would have a result for my claim the following day that Friday. I did not hear from him for 3wks. I called, emailed, cc'd the supervisor on the email thread. No one called me back. I called the company , thinking maybe something happened that they could no longer work, the company stated he's in a meeting he'll call you back. No call back. Another response was I'll put a star by your claim and get it expedited. I still heard nothing. Bc of the poor website, I decided to go through social media to get a response, they said someone will call you tonight. No one called. I reported them to BBB as a complaint. I got an email later that night from my claim adjuster that they were gathering information. (He already had the information) but I'd get a result 8/11. Then minutes later was I denied my claim. I'm soooo glad I didn't listen to my adjuster bc he told me to start getting repairs and other service and the insurance company would pay for everything. but I waited for approval first , only to get denied. They are a horrible company because never once did all the supervisors call me or send me even an email to explain the horrible customer service. My insurance is paid in full but I couldn't get anyone to deliver service or get on the phone. I asked if it was a time difference and customer service dismissed the notion. Or at least a timely denial. I'll go to a better agency , well established with hopes of better customer service. You don't take peoples money and then not deliver on your job. Or At least a timely denial ANYTHING would've been better than the lack of follow through I received. I want my money back for the remainder of my policy. If I need help again, I will never call you. We can cancel this relationship right now.

The under writing department first kept said stair railing had to be replaced then took days to be told it was the back stairs railing after I fixed that was told no the hole deck railing has to be replaced then later was told the house plumbing all had to be replaced the e-mails was hard to understand so I called multiple times told underwriting doesn't talk to customer only by emails. Even though I have dyslexia it doesn't matter she can't take phone calls. I too emails to someone who teaches people how to write proper English. He said these emails have nothing really to do with your dyslexia for the most part. The way this is written out is what I would expect from my students first day of class. It's not proper English it's missing words. This is written out by someone who's first language probably India and probably doesn't even speak English. At the end of it all the under writing department excepted someone on disability to pay out almost $6,383.00 in less then 2 months and that was the cheapest estimates. Will also say the people giving me estimates had problems understanding emails and also people at hippo's call center had problems reading them. So they wouldn't help someone with disabilities witch in the United States has laws about that was broken by Hippo insurance,

Terrible company----I had one claim for a rare type of water issue that occurred way back in July of 2021---they confirmed on November 17th of 2021 that my rate was the same but then, without warning, jacked me up 70% on my autorenewal WITHOUT telling me of the increase; When I went to complain to their CS-- they were only too cheerful in bidding me goodbye.....giving me a lecture on how all insurance companies wish to know about water issues and will pump prices up the same as they did(NOT true)--I have cancelled with them and will not be returning;

There home owner insurance is horrible they basically denied my claim over the phone the lady said per beta if we have to cover rain damage rain then we would b out of business...yes she said that..what the heck...then she read off my policy and I said this a home warranty not a homeowners policy and I already have American home shield which by the way is excellent.. so am pretty confident when the adjuster come to see my 7 year old leaking roof and the damage to Living room from heavy winds blowing pounding rain against it for about 13 hrs along with the roof leak by it my laminate floor by my sliding looks like wet cardboard.. stand by for the official denial letter.. I have owned my home for 20 yrs and I have a rental house and this is in my opinion the worst hippo out and farmers is in as of day they are reputable company shame on me for trying to help out a new starter company I will never do that again
