Very disappointed on how things were handled. We were so excited to send our newborn son here and loved the family-owned vibe. We toured in early Spring 22 and got on the waitlist for December 22…we’re told we were 2nd on the list. They said to call back once he was born to update his birthday and name. In August I did just that, and was told again that we were second in line.Like many families right now, we were on multiple waitlists due to lingering Covid shortages. The other daycares started reaching out in early October looking for answers on if we would be attending. I hadn’t heard from CDC, so I called and talked with Justin. He looked at his books, explained that there were some siblings who needed to get in front of us, but after 10 minutes or so of moving things around, he says we are in for December. He said it was a little early to officially tell me but that he would highlight our name in yellow and put a note saying that we spoke. He said he would reach out in November with an official start date and that I could decline the other daycares.I needed to update work on when I would return and on November 9th I started calling. I was told I needed to talk to Justin but he was out sick and would call me tomorrow. Waited 3 business days, called again and was told he was playing catch up but would call me tomorrow. Waited two days, and was told he was out of the country. At this point Emily gets on the phone and tells me she doesn’t see us on the roster. I panic, start crying, and she said she would “text him to see if he remembers the conversation”. She ends the call with “I’ll call you”. Never did. Here we are in December.

I have been working for the company for seven years. I really love teaching the children and watching them grow. I love the administration and my co- workers. This company is family oriented and very professional. I would bring my children to CDC if they were still young.

I was able to meet a wonderful person through being her daughter’s teacher. I am close to their family now and it’s great! I feel like part of a family since working here.

CDC is great! I not only work here but also bring my 18 month old daughter here and love everything about it. My daughter is well taken care of and every time I peek in on her seems to be having so much fun with the other kids and the teachers really take time to love on each of the kids in the room. It is a great place to work as well, everyone is so friendly and truly cares about what they do. And the owners really take time to make sure us teachers are well taken care of. We love CDC!

I started working at Children’s Discovery Center in September of 2020. This is my first time working full time in childcare and I really enjoy working at CDC. I love how the owner appreciates the staff! She makes sure we are in compliance with local and state requirements. She makes sure we have the supplies needed to do our job. She makes our workplace environment fun for the teachers and the children. I’ve built relationships with students included their parents. During my time at CDC, I definitely can see myself learning and growing more and your child will do the same when you enroll your child here at CDC!!! :)

Children's Discovery Center is a wonderful preschool and an amazing place to work. All of the administrators are kind and supportive. The facility is also very impressive. All of the classrooms are bright, beautiful, and full of toys and activities. There are five spacious, fenced playgrounds. I am so grateful for Children's Discovery Center, my employers, and most of all, my children. I learn so much from them, and I can always count on them to make me laugh and brighten each and every week day.

I have had two children at CDC, beginning in 2013, and cannot say enough good things about the teachers, staff, administrators, and facility. They have become a part of our family and have been with us through a number of firsts. As a pre-school, the lesson plans are age appropriate and have set both of our children up for success in elementary school. They teach self-control, independence, and instill confidence. They have a commercial kitchen to prepare all meals and snacks, which both of our children have loved. The outside grounds and playgrounds are immaculate and well kept, and have been updated throughout the years. I would highly recommend, and an additional bonus is that the tuition is reasonable!

I recently returned to CDC after graduating from college. I worked here for 3 years before leaving for school and I was so sad to leave such a great environment. All though covid has changed our work experiences a little I love it here. I was welcomed back with opened arms. I was/am able to still build relationships with the children and their families. I come to work everyday feeling excited about what I am going to teach the children. The administration staff are able to still meet the needs of the children, families, and the staff. I love being a kindergarten teacher, and I know your child would like to grow up here. All of the teachers and administration staff are wonderful and you will be making a WONDERFUL decision by trusting us to take care of your child/ren.

The owner's son charged my credit card deceitfully for 3 months a very large sum of money for care that the center did not provide. Then the owner's son proceeded to argue with me in an aggressive manner in front of other customers of only wanting to issue a partial refund.Still haven't received all the money they have charged my credit card. Not professional at all and had to end up canceling my credit card. They do have a high turnover of teacher staff, and the teachers for 4yrs and up were very caring with my child. Really liked this facility for my older child, but the lack of professionalism at the front desk is just unacceptable to me when I've been a customer for a few years. Also, did not feel comfortable leaving my newborn baby here as the infants were placed in rockers or left crying in cribs everytime I observed the infant room.

My son has been going to children’s discovery center since he was 6 weeks old. He is now 2! The staff is great and my son absolutely loves each teacher he has been with so far. My son amazes me with the new things he has learned daily. Couldn’t ask for a better center to bring my son to and know that he is well taken care of.

I have had the privilege for not only teaching at this facility but also my neice who was well taken care of . As a teacher the staff and owner are beyond professional and follows state guidelines. The classrooms are clean and well organized, teachers are caring and professional. Front desk staff has been so helpfulThank you for everythingBest recommendation

Stay away from the establishment if you can! They are very deceitful! Smile in your face and will you do you absolutely wrong. They exposed employees and their babies (new born) to Covid-19 and decided the correct cards to play would be the race card. Having no regard for the staff employed that are POC but give all praise and understanding to the staff members that favor them. The owners mother has a such a big sense of entitlement and severe diarrhea of the mouth. They have no regards for the thing they say and how they treat staff, students and parents. If you speak up for yourself then you are wrong. Very inconsiderate, no compassion, lack of empathy. I have heard too many stories and seen things for myself. This business is simply not worth your time and most definitely not worth your hard earned money. But all may be ok....if you're white.

I'm so sad writing this negative review since my son really liked his teachers and we have been happy there for a year. Unfortunately, this center did not seem to take the Covid-19 guidelines and requirements seriously and were not following many of the requirements updated on May 6th, 2020. On May 12th, we took our son back to daycare for the first time after continuing to pay them a portion of his monthly cost to maintain his spot. I felt confident that they must be following all guidelines. When my husband dropped off our son, he noticed they weren't really doing anything differently. When we looked up the DHHS guidelines we realized there were many requirements they were not following such as doing health screenings, marking 6 feet so parents don't crowd in the front, not allowing parents into the building, limiting groups of children (there were apparently even more children in the room than usual when my husband dropped our son off!). Everything was basically the same, my husband dropped our son off in his classroom and no one asked him any questions. They also did not have anyone wearing masks.I am uploading a picture of the first part of the May 6th update to the DHHS guidelines. Notice that the red paragraph states "Childcare facilities may be open only if they operate in full compliance with Executive order 130 and all guidelines issued by NCDHHS. Childcare facilities that are open must follow the updated health guidance outlined in this document"When we asked the center about this, I was argued with on multiple occasions. My husband actually sent them a link to the guidelines and requirements, but we got no response. I called and talked to the owner's daughter again about it, and was still argued with. She insisted that the guidelines were only recommendations not requirements, when the document directly from DHHS stated differently. When I tried to tell her this, I was just shut down immediately. We felt we had no other choice than to file a complaint after trying to talk to the center directly. A state representative even helped us get in touch with DHHS and was concerned about the center not following the requirements as well.Since they were going to start charging us the full amount again but we did not feel comfortable taking our son without them following the requirements, we decided to un-enroll our son from daycare. We really weren't left with any reasonable choice. I reached out to another parent of a child at the center and discussed with her if she noticed them following any of the requirement and she had not seen anything being done differently either.I was able to speak with the Program Manager of the Division of Child Development and Early Education who confirmed that the language in the guidelines stated that some of the guidelines were requirements, not recommendations. I know a government official went to the center, and then suddenly they began following more of the guidelines. I felt really positive about this and was hopeful. When I called back to inquire about re-enrolling my son now that they were following the guidelines, I was dismissed and told to call back in June.I recently called back and was told they had no room for my son. When I brought up that we felt we had no choice but to un-enroll him due to the fact that they were not following the requirements, I was again argued with. It was very unprofessional and such a bad experience. I do wonder if the owner and her adult children who also work at the center are letting their own politics get in the way of appropriately following state requirements to make sure they are doing what they can to keep everyone protected. Pandemics are not political, period.Thankfully we have found another center that has a lot more amenities, a lot more oversight, and are following the guidelines and our son will be starting in August.
