Horrible rental experience, lackluster customer service, exploitative lease practices, and extraneous pestering about non-existent landscaping problems. Even though the company has been featured on HGTV, Shanta and her assistant Corey are negligent and inattentive when it comes to helping tenants with preexisting issues or sticking to their contractual obligations. Outside of the absence of assistance after making the initial payments for the rental property, during the last month of our occupancy, they insisted on intruding into the home by taking pictures of the property featuring our personal items and furnishings. Moreover, we were subjected to countless viewings throughout the week and on the weekend, and even though they specifically stated in the lease that they would have to provide 24 hours notice before bringing people over, their scheduled showings were usually last minute or called in as they were already on their way over to the house. Overall, while we were outstanding tenants, fulfilling our obligations on the lease, making payments on time, and superbly maintaining the home, Carolina Max Realty Inc. rewarded us for our adherence to the lease by responding with a heedless oversight to their own responsibilities as a rental agency.

We leased a home for several years in Durham, and Shanta and Corey from Carolina MaxRealty provided property management for the owner of the home.
We are fairly easy-going renters, and try not to bother owners with simple fixes or minor complaints. However, in the few times we needed some help, Shanta and Corey were both very responsive. Their communication was top notch - emails, phone calls or texts, they were very quick to respond even at night or on the weekends.
Most importantly, they had my back when the owner of the property wrongfully withheld a portion of my security deposit. After threatening the owner with legal action, Shanta and Corey reimbursed me for the remaining amount the owner was refusing to hand over, even though they had no legal obligation in this matter between the owner and I.
I've enjoyed working with Shanta and Corey over the last few years, and wish them the best in their growing business.
