Don't rent Paws on the Beach. This was the worst place we've ever stayed at on a vacation. We arrived to zero toilet paper, palmetto bugs, and unmade beds. Linens and towels were just thrown on the floor in big bags. There was mold on the bathroom ceiling and the beds were horrendously uncomfortable, our backs hurt so bad. I tried to sleep on the couch instead, but that wasn't a comfortable place either. The kitchen was disorganized and unkempt. Everything felt worn down and old. I think they tried to update with paint, but it didn't hide the fact that it needs a major overhaul. The deck door screeched so badly, they get one star because they did come and fix that quickly. Also, the hose to wash off after the beach was at the front of the house, so you could wash your feet, but then had to walk through sand to turn the hose off again. And the outdoor shower was full of beach stuff and unusable. I will never use this company again. Thank goodness the weather was gorgeous and we were able to be on the beach all day instead of in the house. The previous reviewer had a similar experience, so renters beware. It seems that this company's service is going downhill since the good reviews were written.

When we come back to vacation at OKI we always come to Going Coastal. It has been our favorite beach house rental since the ‘80’s. The owners keep it clean, and we love all the details like the blackout curtains, the gate that locks on the ocean front deck (that kept our littles safe), the natural wood interior. It comfortably suited our family of 5 on the oceanfront and we hope it will be this way for many more years!

We rented Pink Lady because it was affordable and on the beach. The saying is, you get what you pay for. I had seen the pictures and knew it was way outdated and expected it not to be exactly what I wanted, but thought it was worth it. Things I did like or the very hot water and pressure. Location is obviously awesome and the covered porch was really important cuz it rained the whole weekend.
Unfortunately, the cons far outweigh the pros. When we walked in the laundry service they use had thrown 2 big yellow bags in the kitchen with our sheets and towels to make our own beds. I get it if that's how they operate. I clean airbnbs for a living so I know each place has their own method. Placing each set of sheets and towels on each bed would've made me feel my money is appreciated. Heck, even Super 8 motel makes our beds.
Next, we walked into two huge palmetto bugs on the floor. I'm guessing the place had not been rented in a while, but that's no excuse.
The home itself feels very neglected. The kitchen hasn't been tended to for years based on the fact that everything is just placed in whichever cabinet is closest.
The ice tray is busted
The couches dirty. We covered them with the quilts they didn't have laundered since they had human hairs on them. I rewashed all the bedding cuz we have no idea how long that has been.
The beds do not have any support so if you need a firmer bed, keep looking.
A noted danger: the banister literally broke in two places when we were just standing on the deck. If this had been a little one, they would've been really hurt.
My ultimate takeaway is never stay here again which is unfortunate because it has so much potential to be a perfect little getaway.
If you do stay here, bring your own blankets, toilet paper and paper towels, dish soap, dishwasher pods, detergent , etc. We got lucky because people have left some of those things behind. The company did provide one roll of tp in each bathroom so there's that.
Bring some cleaning supplies to get it up to your standard of cleanliness. The washer and dryer work really well even though they're old. There are some chairs in the basement and a really old grill.
Basically just figure you're getting a house on the beach that's it. ?
Pic of the beach is our view from the porch. May totally be worth all the other inconveniences to you. ?
Note to Margaret Rudd Realty: please do not systematically dismiss my review as you have most of your one Stars. It is what it is. It's ok if this is how you operate but people need to know how to prepare. That's my only objective.

The porch was really nice overlooking the ocean and the pool! The kitchen was great and well stocked! The decor was warm, welcoming, and beachy. The only thing that you could change is the master bedroom’s mattress.

We had an absolutely wonderful two weeks at Palms Away. This house was beautifully furnished and the kitchen well stocked with appliances and everything that you might need. We've been coming to Oak Island for 12-15 years and this is the most comfortable we've ever felt! What a lovely home! We will look to stay here again!

Rudd uses dynamic pricing - if you search a rental property one day but don't commit, the next day the price will be higher. Very deceptive and dishonest - be circumspect in your searches.

Margaret Rudd is awesome! The house are so clean and they are so response to any needs. We’ve rented with other local renters snd they don't compare to Margaret Rudd!! Rent with them and you wont be let down!

Sea Turtle was the perfect house for my group of 16. The only thing that could’ve made it better for a group of adults, would be a fold out/air mattress so two couples would not need to share a room. The house is slightly different from the photos in the living room, with one couch, a small sectional, and three chairs versus multiple couches and loveseats and the arrangement still worked great for us! All beds were comfortable! It worked super well for us to have most plates and cups and even a cabinet located just outside the kitchen for snacks for a kitchen that’s on the smaller side when compared to the rest of the house. It gets hot in there and we needed to open the windows a few time while cooking - there are no screens on those windows so be mindful. We were happy to find TWO coffee pots which came in super handy! And the driveway actually can hold 8-9 vehicles and half of ours were trucks! The walkway to the gazebo and beach is not nearly as long as it looks in the photos however there is a hill on the sand to traverse which isn’t too bad. The beauty of it is from the beach in this area, your view back is of the lighthouse and not of a row of beach houses. The area is low population so the beach is incredibly uncrowded. We had three shade structures and still had room for beach games without feeling as though we were encroaching on other people and their space. This is also one of the few homes without a house across he street, so you have a beautiful marsh view and are able to watch the container ships come and go. 10 out of 10 recommend!
