We had a baby bird that had fallen out of a nest in a bird house for the second day in a row. I called to see if OWLS could take him and they said yes. As I was on the phone with them I realized there was another baby. He was a fledgling and hopped away under the safety of a bush. Mama was watching from a safe distance. When I got to OWLS, they took the baby right away to an incubator with some other babies. ❤️ I sincerely appreciate the staff there taking the time to educate me. Apparently, a cowbird is a brood parasite who lays eggs in other birds’ nests, for those mamas to raise. Can you believe?! I had the cowbird baby and the sparrow fledgling hopped away. ? Who knew?! Again, thank you for taking the time to explain. So very interesting. Thank you, OWLS!

These people help all of the wild creatures that have become displaced in some way, and are brought to this shelter/sanctuary. Many of these animals are loosing their homes due to massive amounts of development, pollution, fishing lines, etc. This organization has a major undertaking going on, and if you love animals, eithier volunteer your time, or help them financially. The creatures depend on us, and this facility does a great job helping them.

The people here are very kind and helpful. I've brought a few turtles in that I've found injured, and they took them in instantly to begin treatment. If you find an injured wild animal, even if you don't think they'll make it, this is the place to go. The photos are of a box turtle I found with an infection that was affecting their eyes. It was getting colder, so they kept them over the winter and called me to pick them up once spring arrived.

My first experience with these wonderful people was yesterday afternoon when I took an injured squirrel in. They were helpful, informative, and kind! This is absolutely a great service to our community! After dropping the squirrel off, I went to Atlantic Beach and found a cormorant that had been caught in fishing line and could not fly! I immediately reached out to them again and was quickly responded to through Facebook messenger! They asked if I could bring the bird in! Megan is great and very informative! She also taught me a little bit about Cormorants! Did you know these “water birds” can become waterlogged and drown? If you get a chance, take the time to look at their wishlist and/or make a donation! They can not continue without us and where would our wildlife be without them?
