He listened carefully to our concerns, gave us the facts and possible outcome, scheduled surgery promptly and helped us with her post op health care. His assistant, Heather and the front desk personnel were welcoming and supportive. This is by far the best doctor and clinic we have experienced in caring for our 12 year old pup.

Rates are definitely competitive and much cheaper than other places we've lived. We will forever be grateful for Dr. Mel and the team who helped us for what turned out to be the last two years with our beloved dog (bone cancer). Great vets are very hard to find and Dr. Mel is wonderful.

Weller Kennels/Dog Obedience
250 Zeb Rd, New BernI want to give a HUGE shout out and thank you to Anthony Abernathy at Weller Kennels. It was a big decision of where to send our babies for gun dog/ duck hunting training and we definitely made the best decision!
I was super nervous about the whole experience going into it, but the very first time we met Anthony, I knew they were going to be just fine and in the best hands.
Through our monthly trips there (we are from Maryland!) to check in on their progress, it was evident that these dogs love Anthony and he created such a strong bond with them from day one. Anthony was there to answer any questions and always made us feel confident and at ease. And the progress these dogs have made with him was absolutely incredible.
I could go on forever, but THANK YOU SO MUCH Anthony and everyone else at Weller Kennels who played a part in this journey. Our dogs are our family members and to be able to trust someone to keep their best interest and safety as the number one priority is a great feeling. Thank you again for everything!

1819 RaceTrack Rd, New BernWe take our 2 dogs here, sometimes weekly. The staff is very friendly, and they are reasonably priced (this price is going up in summer of '24 but still affordable, especially if you buy bulk packs).
I do like that they have cameras to see the dogs too.
Deducting 1 star as their weekend hours are not a real "daycare." We were informed that on weekends from like 10am-4pm there are no workers and the dogs are instead just in a kennel. Our previous daycares we used in NJ had normal daycare on the weekends where the dogs were out and playing.

The local art for sale is a plus, and the super friendly staff an absolute bonus. As an out of towner from the northeast (with many Pamlico and Carteret County roots) it was nice to find a brewery not overly commercialized and overrun with people. 99 felt personable and fresh- don’t loose that charm! Thanks, Jersey beertender!

914 Broad St, New BernThis is a really cute cafe with cleverly name coffee options and a nice menu. I only popped in for a pick-me-up for the road and a bathroom break. They have gluten free baked goods and I loved their mugs so I got one as a souvenir.
As for service, somehow my 3 silver bracelets feel out of my pocket. When I called to check if they could have possibly fallen out in the cafe, they had two of them and mailed them to me free of charge.
They were so kind about it. I'd made all of the bracelets, so it was more sentimental value than anything else.
Definitely check this place out. It's cozy and obviously had a very caring, observant, and honest staff. ?✨️❤️

Freshwater Beer Co.
904 Pollock St, New BernFreshwater was a fabulous taproom to hang out for an hour or so while I passed the time waiting to meet up with my friend in downtown. It was a super hot day and their AC was perhaps a little stressed but otherwise, it was quiet, it was comfortable and the wifi worked well.
I enjoyed a very cold pilsner from Nashville and it was perfect. A great little watering hole and as I was heading out, a food truck arrived and was setting up.

This time, I finally remembered to take a few photos, so I figured I'd share them here. The menu offers a wide variety of options, and I've tried quite a few of them over the years. Everything has been flavorful, fresh, and well-prepared. There are a few tables available for dine-in, and the drive-through window makes it easy to grab a meal on the go. Whether you're stopping by for a quick bite or sitting down for a casual meal, this place delivers every time.

219 Middle St, New BernBestie & I specifically came to New Bern to geocache & I had 2 places in mind for lunch and luckily for us, the other spot was closed. I say luckily because the brisket burger we both had has to be one of the best tasting, and juicy, burgers I've ever had. The truffle fries arrived hot and delectable. What makes this burger special is I do not care for any pink in my burger and most folks will testify it drains all the flavor and juices out of the burger. That was NOT the case here. I requested the 257 sauce be OTS & replaced with mayo. Julie asked if it would be ok if the mayo came out in a ramekin, which I said would be fine. Most times a server won't take that extra time to ask that & Julie got extra points for that. Prior to our burgers I ordered the ham & herb focaccia & it arrived hot, crispy on the outside but soft and pillowy, like lying on an edible down comforter. The vinaigrette that accompanied the bread was a delightful dip, sweet & tart at the same time. To finish our lunch off we had bread pudding. Y'all, if you're ever on the fence about having it after a full meal, get it. The bread was so light it was unexpected. I made sure to leave room for dessert & because the bread was so light, I ate almost my entire half.
The vive here was low key but classy. We were in the side dining room with only a few other diners & it was like being in your own living room.
Julie was one of the best servers ever. Attentive but not hovering. Always there to refill our waters without asking, personable and friendly but respectful and as she handed my card back she pronounced my last name correctly. She gets extra points for that as it doesn't happen often.
All in all, I would come back to New Bern just to dine here. I told my husband it was so good I wanted to return soon for dinner with him or maybe brunch so we can try the breakfast pizza.
