Dr. Levi and the staff at CAH did a great job treating Lily and helping us manage the short time we had left with her. They were sensitive to our desires and needs. A couple of thoughts for pet owners, 1, if you do not hear back from your health care person when expected, be proactive and give them a call. Things can slip unnoticed in a busy practice. 2, if your pet is pawing for attention and the usual responses don't work (treat, toilet, walk, etc.), do not be frustrated, trust your pet. They may be telling you that they are experiencing a health problem that they do not understand and one that is not obvious to you. They are counting on you to seek out the medical help that they need.

Totally worthless people. Made weeks in advance appointments for all three of my dogs. I called the day before my appointment and was told that my appointment had been cancelled by the vet since this vet would not be there.....rescheduled to later date, no problem since finding a decent vet was next to impossible in this area. Anyways long story short they made appointment (not appointments...Plural) for only one dog....even said I called and cancelled them. ( I did no such thing) but lied to me and said I did....and kept insisting I did. I DID NOT! Why would I since it would have been their first visit at this vets. Again making this long story shorter, took my one dog for scheduled appointment. People behind counter where rude and totally useless in my opinion. Not a good combo in todays business. Dog was seen, got what I had wanted done a rabies update and flea medication . Got that done (for 1 dog only). Paid my bill (thought it was high for what was done) when finally paid was then asked what was a good time to schedule my other two dogs....I said I wouldn't be using them for anymore services and that this was my first and last visit. Period! I will drive it hours back to where their former vet would see them at anytime (if emergency) and we're always happy to see them (and me I guess). CRAVEN COUNTY ANIMAL HOSPITAL SHOULD BE AVOIDED AT ALL COST! Since they don't obviously don't care about their patients....If I had read some of these comments I would have never even called for that first appointment. Hope people read my comments and act accordingly and not visit them. Also anyone ever ask me about a decent vet I damn sure won't soil my mouth by repeating their name to anyone. Worthless one and all. Disappointed to say the least.

I'm somewhat new to the area and needed a veterinarian for my Labrador retriever, Charly. I made an appointment at Craven Animal Hospital. I was just a little concerned because a couple of the reviews I read were questionable. Now that I've taken Charly I don't understand those reviews because I thought this place was great ! It was easy to make an appointment, the staff was super friendly and professional, the techs were thorough, and Dr Levi did a great job in my opinion examining my Labrador and discussing her health with me. The pricing seemed reasonable for a professionally managed and staffed Animal Hospital. And again being new to the area I was worried about finding good vet - but no longer. Based on my experience, I have no problem giving Craven Animal Hospital a 5 Star rating. Now if I could just find a good steak around here........

If there were a zero, I would use that. A huge disaster on the map of vets. I now live outside New Bern NC. On Saturday, my cat was quickly deteriorating. I knew the signs and realized she need to be seen right away. It was Saturday, and there would be a wait, I knew that Craven Animal Hospital takes emergencies during regular hours, as testified to on their website in several places. They say: "Our Policies Appointment Policy. To allow ample time for all patients and scheduled surgical procedures, we operate primarily by appointment. Emergency cases shall always receive top priority, which is why occasional appointment delay is inevitable. Please realize that we make a sincere attempt to see each client on time. An emergency fee may apply for any unscheduled visits. For your convenience, drop-off appointments are available. A 'drop off' means you could bring your pet at the time that works best for you and leave him/her with us for a couple of hours. Usually, we will ask you to drop off sometime in the morning so our doctors can examine the patient in between appointments or at the time purposely reserved for admitted patients. Once the doctor is done, she or he will give you a call to go over the diagnosis and to give you discharge instructions." That sounded straightforward to me. Well... My cat is feral, and very frightened of everything. She screamed and panicked the entire 15 miles from our house to that hospital. When we got there, I was instructed to wait in a waiting area, and someone would help us shortly. 45 minutes later, the vet asst came out and gave me an interview asking for details. My cat had stopped eating, sleeping, and socializing, and refused to eat. She was throwing up and drinking copious amounts of water. She was running a fever, and although I had an appt with a local vet the next week, I knew this was a real emergency. The asst told me she would be right back, that she needed to talk with the doctor. She returned 20 minutes later, and in a half patronizing half officious manner told me the vet was too busy to see us. However, she added, she could recommend a vet "just don't the street" whom she knew would see me. I looked at her dumbfounded. I told her that her website said they take emergencies and this was one. She told me she didn't think so, and in a very condescending manner asked me if I wanted the name of the other vet. I said yes, and she told me the vet was the Hubert Emergency in Hubert. A good half hour from where we were. As I was about to leave, another woman came out and cornered me, and began to accuse me of causing her asst to cry. Could not believe it as I had said not 3 words other than what I write here. This woman identified herself as the doctor, and stated she was not about to have anyone make her asst cry, and demanded to know why she was crying. I replied, somewhat frightened by all this, that she should ask her asst. I then went to the Emergency Hospital 45 minutes away. And here for the sake of time I will shorten this up. 1500 dollars later, they told me to go back to my vet here in New Bern. They told me she had diabetes and they would keep her 2 nights. Not so. The next day the vet from Emergency called and told me to come get her. She was stressed and would not eat so they would not keep her. I retrieved her, and took her home, trying to calm her down. I learned nothing other than she was diabetic. This could have been determined by a qualified vet in 20 minutes with a series of tests that were indicated by the symptoms she was having. Even I knew that. I am outraged. I believe the Emergency did work that need not have been done, if they had looked at the classic symptoms first. And as I told the desk clerk, this 1500 is my monthly budget. I live on SS and disability and am in my 80s. Beware. I know this place is run by a group of local vets. For shame.

Jackson, our 15 year old Austrailian Shepherd who we recently adopted woke up two weeks ago with a lot of facial swelling and Craven was able to have him seen same day due to a cancellation. From the moment we walked in.. everybody was so kind and patient with him. Once he was in the room, he was given a blanket to lay on. We determined he needed a dental and to have some of the rotten teeth removed. Jackson had a long recovery and some complications (nothing that the Dr or Craven did wrong) due to his age and the teeth that were badly rotten. We feel truly blessed that we met Dr.Levi and that he did the surgery and is continuing to work with him. We truly believe that if Jackson had gone to any other hospital... the outcome would likely have been different and we may have lost him. We will never be able to repay Craven and Dr.Levi. P.S Please be kind to vet staff. They do SO much for your animals. They are so so deserving of kind words and a lifetime of good karma. Thank you Craven and Dr.Levi!!!

I had an appointment today to have my almost 14 year old dog for her nails to be cut and her flea medication to be given. My dog developed an ear infection the day before so I thought how lucky I was to have the appointment. When I arrived with my little companion, I called inside and the vet "tech" came out to greet us. I explained about the ear infection my dog had developed. My dog is deaf and blind. The young lady immediately said I only have an appointment with the vet tech (which I don't disagree) and all the vets are too busy (2 doing surgery and 1 doing Appointments). She wouldn't let me plead my Case. She was just so abrupt and uncaring. She wanted to take my dog and have me wait in the car. I asked if I could go inside and she said only to the lobby. I said ok, I will go into the lobby. i Was hoping against hope that my poor dog would get her ears looked at while we were there, but it did not Happen. Instead I got To wait in the lobby listening to the front desk. The girl took a call and someone needed to get their pet in today. She went and asked the doctor and told them ok And they all are chiming in about the person bringing them donuts for getting this appointment. Then another woman was checking out and said thank you for squeezing me in. The abrupt "tech" that took my dog brought her back to me and said she was done. I again asked if someone could just take 5 minutes to look at her. I told her what was said in the lobby and said I can't believe they won't do this. I said maybe if I had brought donuts, I would have been treated differently. She said...and I quote.."it's not my fault your dog has an ear infection". I was very upset. It made me cry. I Was paying the girl at the desk and said to the girl that it wasn't fair that they could squeeze in someone who wasn't even there. She said that's why they can't squeeze me in? I came to this place because it was recommended. I really liked the vet that was attending my little companion; however, I will not be coming back to a place where the staff has no compassion for you or your pet.

I fired you. We went there because you were supposedly Great Dane experts, but weren't . My husband wanted to continue only because you were open weekends. Was given poor medical treatment. Did not cuss at anyone. Always tried to rip us off by insisting we get Rxs filled at your facility, which is 4x the price at the pharmacy, and I'm a pharmacist. Turns out the TRUE Great Dane experts are Drs Selma and Furr, who have been marvelous with our dogs. They also spayed both of my Great Danes for less than $1000, while Craven said they would charge at least twice that. Actually gave Craven expensive medicine that I had paid for after Gordon died before the medicine ever got to me. Told them I didn't want another dog to go through what Gordon endured. Almost 2 yrs later, I'm still haunted by watching him die in my car at their office. They have a beautiful new facility, but I had the feeling that I was always being overcharged to pay for their new digs.

Shop around!!!!! This clinic will take every dime and then find reasons to take more. I've never in my life heard of needing blood work done to RENEW a prescription the following month. Should have switched a long time ago. Plenty of other vets in town I can give my money to.

Had an emergency visit for my guinea pig, spent 400 dollars for them to give me eye drops. Took her back for the recheck a week later because she was worse, and they recommended I just put her down. Obviously took her to another vet in the area for a second opinion, and got the CORRECT medications and a full recovery within a few days. Never will come back to this vet.

Craven Animal Hospital has saved my dog, Lorelei's, life! I truly could not be happier with her vet, Dr. Tonkin. We originally went to her because of her work with seizure therapy, but she has been so much more; so kind and knowledgeable. I could honestly talk all day about what Dr. Tonkin and the other vets at Craven mean to me. If it wasn't for their wonderful team, I would have lost my baby. I could never express how thankful I am for how wonderful they are each and every time I call or come in! Won't go anywhere else

I brought my son's dog to Craven Animal Hospital at 4:35 pm on 2/15/20 after she had been attacked by two Pit Bull's. Dr Bobbie was not there but the Doctor who was there told the receptionist to tell me to go to the Emergency Animal Hospital in Havelock because they were closing in 20 minutes. He would not even come out to take a look at her or give her something for pain. Her ear had been ripped open. He must have had something better to do than his job as a Vet. There was no other car in the lot and they were wash the floor getting ready to leave. I am sure Dr Bobbie would have come out to look at the dog, surprised she would leave an irresponsible person to be in charge of her facility as it is her reputation. I would give this facility no stars but that was not an option.

Do your research before stepping foot in here. Find out the prices of what you are paying for. This is absolutely the most expensive office in town. Also it used to be very clean, I had a recent appointment here, early in the morning and the room was filthy. Make sure you understand that only rabies shot is required by law. Call other offices. Get prices.
