This a review of employment and services as a staff member. The wife is the HR manager, she is never in the office, Doctor lacks mutual respect for his staff with no accountability of their actions, He uses aggressive/offensive communication and states insults/demeaning labels toward staff, asking questions like "Are you F(cussword) stupid?" as a way of counseling. When really upset he throws charts or whatever is close by across the room or directly at staff. Refuses doctor notes as excused absences. He's extremely antagonistic toward teaching when asked questions. Then are afraid to ask questions because they don't want to be ridiculed or belittled. Multiple staff members have exited employment because of these circumstances . Staff has brought up the concerns to the HR manager and it is turned around and blamed on staff like the actions are justified. They do not advocate teaching, positivity or mutual respect. It's a really emotional and unfulfilling place to work. As a staff member I have to take my pet outside of the hospital to have them cared for. Multiple staff members have done the same. The doctor doesn't let us put of animals on the schedule. He makes us feel guilty, like an inconvenience and only half cares for our pet when we ask him for our personal pets.

This vet misdiagnosed our sweet 8 month old cat. We were told he had heart failure which he didn't (told by three other drs. Told he had a heart murmur (which he didn't ) I should have listened to my gut feeling. This vet gave our cat a shot of lasix without even asking us. An hour later he had convulsions and had to be hospitalized. For four days. Over 2000 dollars later at the ER vet , trying to repair the damage that this shot did OUR CAT DIED three days before Christmas. Our sweet cat was basically killed slowly. We are devastated , gutted and heartbroken. I have so much anger over Arendall Animal Hospitals tragic ERROR! You murdered my cat.

Me and my family have been taking our animals here for years and they truly only want what's best! They are always able to fit us into their schedule especially in emergency situations.

New to the area, and our dog Buddy is having a bad allergic reaction to something. They got Buddy in very quickly. Very cognizant of COVID, only one person can go in to the office with a pet. Buddy and I went into an examination room. A tech then took Buddy to the back for the Dr. to examine him. I have no idea if the vet even looked at him, just had to take it on trust. He prescribed him steroids to mask the symptoms. They are not working. I called back today to see if we could bring him back in and was told I'd have to pay another office visit charge. They also charged me $18 to clip his nails and $18 to pluck his ears during the initial visit. That surprised me. Every vet we've ever went to has clipped and plucked as part of the office visit. Called back and asked for a prescription for Apoquel so we don't have to come back in for an office visit. They filled it without having an additional office visit, but it did seem to be an issue.

We were new to the area and not established into a vet yet when my dog got injured and they got us in ASAP and got him taken care of and back on his feet in no time. The staff is extremely nice and caring. The vet techs were all amazing especially during covid- 19 and dealing with a hurt and scared puppy. This is going to be our new go to vet.

Giving them a star because the office was clean and the doctor was nice bUt they literally lied to me MULTIPLE times about cost. I had a voucher from the shelter where I just adopted my kitty to get her spayed. I asked more than three times what exactly the voucher covered and always got a vague response along the lines of "it covers her spay" this was over the phone and over the course of a few days leading up to her scheduled surgery. When we were checking in, I asked again and asked the nurse getting the same exact vague response. It wasn't until we were trying to pick her up and check out that the lady at the front desk called her voucher a "discount" and charged us $273. I'm sorry, WHAT?! Like SO MANY people in this county, I'm out of work because of this virus scare. Now I don't mind spending the little bit of money that I have on my fur babies but I do mind being lied to and giving my money to a business that blatantly lies to new patients. I don't normally post reviews and I hate to be one of those people that posts a bad one but I cannot condone lying and just want to let people know our experience so they can avoid having a similar one.

Very mean and unprofessional veterinarian. Got so bad that the staff started bullying as well because I asked for some of my pets medical records. I can not believe that this Dr would drop the f bomb Won't be back and will not recommend. I'm still in shock.

Was told my dog was "vicious" a few months back and they refused to give him shots. When my husband called to get his records faxed elsewhere they gave him a hard time and were rude.

We took our dachshund Spencer here while on vacation in Emerald Isle bc of tummy troubles. Blood in the stool/ diarrhea , scary stuff. Dr. Richard Hawkes was so knowledgeable and knew right away what was wrong with our dog. He and the staff also suggested some great places to go while visiting:) While nobody else was able to get us in that day, they were able. Some meds and pleasant conversation later our dog was well on the mend! Thank you! Highly recommended!

I had a great experience there. When a pet dies, I know that is a very emotional thing. But I had no doubt that the staff was very professional to me, and my three pets. My dog recently had to have several teeth removed, and this has happened before with another dog of mine. The charges were very reasonable and the staff was very caring.

We brought our newly purchased puppy to Arendell Animal Hospital due to signs of him being very sick. We brought him in 11/13/17 and he tested +for parvo. We were told to have him admitted that he was not well. We agreed and said we would re-evaluate him in a couple of days. We called twice a day to check on him and were told he was improving keeping all fluids in. However, he had been over hydrated. That he had a swollen lip. And would continue to monitor. After the two days we were told he was responding well but they felt he still needed to stay. So we agreed. On Thurs. day 4 we called and were told he was doing great, up walking around in his cage eating, no vomit/diarrhea all week but that they were going to keep him one more night and we could pick him up Friday evening. Same positive responses Friday morning. We got there around 15 min. to close on Friday evening. Dr. Hawkes went over meds and feeding protocol for him for the next few days and his illness should be out of his system in a few more days but that he was doing well. They finally brought him out and asked that we please hurry him out due to him possibly still being contagious and not wanting it to spread in the office. We did and were so happy and grateful to have our puppy who was on his way to being well back with us. We started driving back home. 3 min. into the ride while checking him over we knew immediately he was not okay. He was cold to the touch, his gums were white, he was limp and couldn't even keep his head up, he had what looked like a huge water balloon in his stomach and his eyes seemed as though he were no longer with us and he was having bloody diarrhea all over my husbands lap. We pulled over and called the office they were already closed and no one answered. We proceeded to drive home and brought him inside where the rest of my family was waiting excitedly to see our puppy whom was doing so well (as we were told). We tried to stand him up on the floor and he fell to the ground. Showing no signs of life, we called a 24 hr. vet hospital who said to get him in ASAP! It was too late our puppy died 5 min. later. ABSOLUTELY DEVASTATING! Now with all of that being said, I am fully aware there is no guarantee with parvo. What I am so upset about is why I was told he was doing so well and he was sent home dying. I called first thing Monday morning to be told that they didn't know why, he was fine there. So you mean to tell me, that he went from doing fine to dead an hour later?? Please BEWARE!
