We stayed here the night before hiking up the old toll road to the top of Mt. Mitchell. Great location for hiking. I really like the spartan ambience - clean and simple. Best 2 star lodge on Earth. I hope they do not change.Rooms: 5/5

The perfect stay at Montreat. Our daughter attends Montreat College and we were needing a place to stay for some back to back Lacrosse games at the college. The lodge literally looks down on the Montreat College campus and was the perfect place to stay. It snowed (in April!) while we were there which made the view out of the room window even more beautiful. We pulled up and Rev. Tommy met us at the door and had a parking spot reserved for us because there was a fairly large group there for a gathering and he wanted to make sure we had a parking space close by (Try getting that kind of service elsewhere). The lodge has that perfect Mountain Retreat (Montreat) feel to it with the beautiful stone and huge front porch construction. We found the lodge to be very clean and well maintained for its age. If you are looking for modern amenities (Ie. there are no TVs in the rooms) and squeaky hospital sterile rooms then this is NOT the place for you to stay BUT if you enjoy over the top service and an awesome rustic mountain feel at a more than affordable price then you should consider a stay at this lodge!

Great staff! Always a comfortable and quiet stay even when there are other groups in the lodge. Food is excellent when available. Perfect atmosphere to meet new folks, hang out alone or in a group.

Very clean! Tommy was great! Very nice.gardener. Wonderful hospitality. Very quiet and peaceful atmosphere. Our room was changed the day we were leaving to go there ... it was a.bit smaller and had fewer amenities.

My family loves being in Montreat. This is a great place to stay. They've been very accommodating and delightful hosts. I give this place my highest recommendation.

Based on a short site visit in September 2019, not an actual stay at the lodge. I was in Asheville visiting a family member in hospital and called the Lodge to inquire about a room for the evening. I was told the lodge was almost empty and invited to look at the rooms. The website said the least expensive rooms with shared baths were available for $50 (American) per night. Once I arrived, I was shown a room and quoted a rate of $83 per night. When I quoted the website rate of $50 per night for a room with a shared bath, I was told the lodge no longer had $50 rooms and the website needed to be updated. I declined the $83 room and decided to seek other accommodations. I was offered a cool drink and told I could sit on the porch with my laptop. Today a colleague just happened to ask me about accommodations in the Black Mountain area. (My colleagues and I are in the area several times per year as is my family). I checked the Lodge's website. It appears the website has indeed been updated but to my surprise, the rooms with shared baths are STILL showing a nightly rate of $50 (plus tax). ?

If you are looking for a rustic but warm and friendly get away, this is the place for you! We stayed here while visiting a local college because we wanted a mountain cottage experience. We loved it! No TV. No real string wifi but very comfortable cottage with coffee maker, fridge and all you need for a short trip. The main Lodge is run by a friendly couple who help with anything you need and usually have a pot of coffee ready. Our experience was just for two of us but they have so many options for any size group and needs! We loved it and we got to see snow while we were there!!

A beautiful retreat center in the blue ridge mountains. It is part of the Montreat Conference center. The emphasis is on retreat and conferences. So don't get your hopes up for WIFI and hot tubs. The food at WBL is good and plenty of it. Shout out to Tom the Lodge manager and expert on sight seeing from the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Biltmore.

I've stayed at The WBLODGE many times. It is older, but comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful. The setting is beautiful.
