This past weekend, we were in Montreat, NC, just outside of Asheville attending a church retreat at Assembly Inn in Montreat.I stopped again at the Ten Thousand Villages shop across the street below Lake Susan. The shop works with artisans and craftspersons from around the world and provides markets for them to sell their handy work to the world. The shop features jewelry, pottery, linen work, wood-working items, and much more. They have wind catchers, leather bound journaling books, glasswork, and much more, including coffee. The coffee is either ground, or still in bean form to suit your tastates. They have scarves, bags, placemats, coffee cups, and much more.I picked up a beautiful leather bound journaling book and a couple of other items. If you are in the Asheville area, make sure to stop in Montreat, NC and provide a living wage to an artisan from around the world.

A nice little store with a better variety of knickknacks than most tourist type stores. It's certainly not a store dedicated to any type of necessity. It's fun to wander through, and hard to leave without buying (or at least wanting) something. Worth a stop if you're in the area

I've been coming to this shop since I was a little kid. I've always loved the works and craftsmanship of the works and artworks. It's always such a pleasure to visit in the spring time and summer time

Such beautiful craftsmanship and amazing cause. Picked up some beautiful jewelry made from bomb casings left over in Cambodia after the genocide there. Such an amazing store, definitely stop in, admire the goods, and take something home to support a great cause!

Lovely setting for a fair trade shop- maybe 5-10 minutes from Black Mountain shopping area. All sorts of gifts and misc items from around the world, worth a visit while in town. There is also a beautiful pond and water features near the store. We had to wait a short time to be admitted to the store as they are strictly enforcing social distancing practices. Shop local and support the world!

We were out exploring and came across Ten Thousand Villages in Montreat. What a wonderful little store! So many great Fair trade items you can't help but leave with a purchase!Ellen, the store manager, met us at the door and let us know they were only letting 5 customers in at one time. While we waited she gave us a piece of fair trade chocolate to munch on which I thought was really nice.Once in the store it felt really safe with one way aisles, sanitizer and fresh air obviously piped in.I highly recommend a visit and am very impressed not only how conscientious they were about safety but also how friendly and accommodating Ellen was with her customers!

Amazing store! Wonderful mission! I’m greatly impressed by the attentive and knowledgeable staff. Will return in a heartbeat next time I’m in the area. For being handmade, all the items are incredibly reasonable despite their premium value.
