Beautiful B&B with delicious home-cooked breakfasts, plenty of charm and character and faultless service. If you're looking for a change from the big touristy giants on the Outer Banks, look no further. Perfectly located only a few minutes walk from downton Manteo and 10 minutes drive from the beach we enjoyed a wonderful few days and will definitely be back if we visit the area in future.

We discovered that the inn was changing ownership the day before our guests were to arrive for our vow renewal weekend. The new owners, Tonia and Dave took it in stride and provided excellent support for the weekend. Tonia's breakfasts and addional items she prepared were delicious. Dave was always cheerful and did all he could to make the weekend a success.

My wife and I arrived at the White Doe 3 days after the new owners took over. Normally that would give a person pause but they were outstanding! Not sure what it was like with the previous owners, but Dave and Tonia are naturals. They made us feel completely welcomed. We had an issue with our TV and Dave went out of his way and brought a Roku for us. Ultimately the problem was Spectrum (Insight) and not the fault of the White Doe.
The breakfast was second to none. Tonia is a real chef and produced an excellent breakfast.
Also during our stay they had some major landscaping going on which turned out beautifully. And, to make it more interesting, Dave and Tonia were moving in their new home in Manteo.
There was a wedding right before we arrived and another when we were leaving.
My point is this. There was a lot going on before, during, and after our stay but The White Doe made us feel like we were the only guest there. We HIGHLY recommend The White Doe if you’re looking for quiet, beautiful and historic.
Nearby activities: The Lost Colony is a 10 minute drive. Access to Nags Head, Wanchese and the Outer Banks are within 20 minutes drive.
Walkability: Easy walk to the harbor and waterfront. Distillery is 1 block away.

We spent the weekend with our family to celebrate renewal of wedding vows. The entire weekend was delightful. The new owners are really passionate about the Inn and have already made great strides. The chef provided exquisite breakfasts. Every need and want was happily addressed. They are truly in this business because it brings them joy. I look forward to returning soon.
Rooms: The tower room on the third floor was spacious and included both a walk in shower and a bear claw bathtub. There was also an adjoining sitting room although we spent most of our time in the garden or in the patio.
Nearby activities: Music and local shops and restaurants in walking distance. By car there are historical things to do as well as many nearby beaches
Safety: Located in a lovely area. It felt extremely safe.
Walkability: Only a few short blocks from the water. I took my morning walk along the boardwalk. It was beautiful. Neighborhood is charming as well .
Food & drinks: Breakfast was fresh fruit cup, muffin or scone and quiche which was outstanding.

Dirty bedlinen, bathrooms and carpets.
Traditional and quaint but clean it ain't
Well positioned for Manteo harbour and the downtown area. It is a characterful historic property with pleasant public areas.
Otherwise it is not a great experience. The Turret bedchamber room was tired, the bed linen stained and the bathroom especially the shower, was not at all clean. I did not feel able to use the shower. The carpets were dirty in the room also and we decided to leave early.
It's traditional and quaint, but clean it ain't
When we mentioned this to the innkeeper she made no attempt to try to make any apology and became very off hand. She completely ignored my wife for the whole time and was not at all warm from that point on.
Also sockets and switches hanging off the wall in the hallways
Less major but slightly annoying is the check in. You are emailed to say it is between 3-30 and 5-30pm and invited to call if you will be later. I called over 2 days with no response or facility to leave a message. Eventually I received an email 2 hours before my arrival.
Breakfast is offered but as we had already made plans I cannot comment
Rooms: Very tired rooms, dirty bedlinen and shower
Noteworthy details: The staff were offhand and not seeking to help when we pointed out the problems. The hall sockets and switches were hanging off the wall and all of this for $275 a night is outrageous

We held our daughters wedding here over a 4 day weekend. All of the rooms and common spaces were beautiful and comfortable. We had the entire Inn, and we put their staff to the test. You can't have a bad day after the breakfast they serve. Everything was truly outstanding. Thank you to Topanga and all of her staff. The perfect place right in the middle of everything. Don't forget the check out the distillery around the corner.
Rooms: Feels like home
Nearby activities: The waterfront and a great distillery in walking distance.
Safety: Really great small hometown feel.

Stayed two nights in the Roanoak on the third floor (super narrow stairway, but we managed) and it was great! Chose this room for the king bed and it has a shower. Fireplace was also a nice touch as it was chilly outside. The always available coffee machine was enjoyed by my husband. I loved the afternoon snacks. Breakfast was really good too. The Inn was quiet but also very welcoming and so charming. Topanga is an excellent innkeeper and was available at all times. She greeted us right away when we arrived and we saw her here and there all times of the day. I could easily spend an entire week just hanging out on the property, reading, doing puzzles, and sitting on the lovely front porch. The location was easy to find and is close to everything.

I will say the White Doe Inn is in the perfect location most things were within walking distance. It is quiet and very relaxing breakfast and snacks were spot on BUT for what it cost to stay it really needs some improvements most carpet areas were very stained and dirty looking I was shocked it looks so bad. We stayed in the Raleigh room and the dark large furniture gave the room a dark overwhelming feeling. Floors were very uneven and when you walked across the room it felt like the whole room shook. Our room was on the second floor and there is a guest bathroom on the first floor right by the stairs and when you walked by it there was a very strong Urine odor that had to be in the carpet it smelled awful. I am surprised by all the hospitality raves because maybe she was having a bad weekend but the inn manager Topanga had no personality at all very stand offish. When it came time to check out no one ask you about your stay or said they look forward to seeing you again they said to just leave the key in the room door and we literally walked out the front door and walked to our truck and no one said a word and yes they knew we were checking out.

We love the White Doe Inn! We got eloped there last year and had such an incredible experience that we came back for our 1 year anniversary. It was our first experience at a bed & breakfast, they take care of everything, provide homemade baked good, drinks, coffee, and even bikes to check out Manteo! The house is stunning and a delight to stay in, morning breakfast in the garden is also a nice treat. All the staff and people are at our service and do a phenomenal job making sure guests have the best stay possible. This has become a special place for us, we'll be back for sure.

My husband and I chose the White Doe Inn to get married at! We picked the elopement package and added on a couple of family members. Topanga was our coordinator, and she made sure everything was just perfect. Our stay was comfortable and clean, the ceremony and photography were beautiful, and the wedding dinner and morning after breakfast were delicious! We had a couple of dietary requests for the meals and wedding cake and she was able to make it all happen. She even made sure that the music I wanted to walk down the aisle to and have over dinner was playing. I hired a pet taxi to drop off our dog at the inn after the ceremony, and she made sure we got him so he could join in a few of our wedding photos. I know she and her staff worked very hard to make the wedding of our dreams come true and we are so grateful. Thank you for everything. We can't wait to come back again, and soon. I highly recommend the White Doe Inn!

If we wanted to stay in a place with stained and dirty carpeting, we could have booked a cheap motel for way less than the $340 a night we spent here. Sorry, but all the free ice cream sandwiches in the world don’t make up for a lack of cleanliness and upkeep. I don’t understand all these glowing Google reviews. There was a similar complaint about the gross carpet on Trip Advisor back in 2016. Fix it! B&Bs are supposed to have higher standards than this.

Absolutely wonderful stay at the White Doe Inn! We stayed in The Garret Bedchamber and it was perfect. The bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in! Topanga was an amazing host and so accomodating. Highly reccomend this stay for a visit to Manteo :)

My fiancé and I spent two nights here and I want to start with some thing really positive. The staff was incredibly friendly and the breakfast was so amazing. They have great amenities like beach chairs and bikes and beach towels. And I am sure in the bed and breakfasts Heyday that she was beautiful and maybe even the talk of the town! But she is older now and honey she is tired. The floors are all completely uneven and bowing the big heavy furniture in the room the Raleigh felt really overwhelming and made this room feel super small. Not to mention every step you took, you felt like the whole second floor was going to collapse , the bathroom in the Raleigh was really tight and tiny. The shower was really small and the fan in the bathroom sounded like it could explode at any second. Overall I would recommend this spot to anyone looking to stay somewhere historic and I really wanted to love it. I just think the space needs a bit of updating. For instance, the Raleigh room had one working outlet, which is just not amenable to today you need outlets on each side of the bed for people to charge their devices. The bed was completely overused, and every slight move you made shook the whole room.Walkability: Super close to the cutest downtown on the water with great shops and restaurantsFood & drinks: The coffee was great. The breakfast was amazing! And they had snacks!

My partner Lakshya and I stayed in the garden suite and enjoy the beautiful amenities and relaxing nature retreat. The host is very accommodating in answering requests (for example needed fan for our room) and very prompt in delivering excellent service. I like that the food was accommodated to our dietary restrictions.
