VERY impressive selection of books on the Outer Banks. They had the one I was looking for, and it was a new and expanded edition! Great puzzle selection too, and cheaper than the same ones I saw at a market in Nags Head. And yes, they do sell used books!

I remember taking my kids to this bookstore when they young ...fast forward 36 years and now I come here with my grandchildren.. quaint and such a good selection of books for all ages.. I prefer coming here in the off season only because it's less crowded for it seems to be a popular spot to shop .. I highly recommend checking them out in-season or off-season ..

What an inclusive, safe & quaint local bookstore! The book selection is amazing, the staff is so friendly & they have lots of items for sale supporting local artists! Highly suggest you check this place out while on your trip!

The best bookstore on the beach! The staff are so nice and knowledgeable, and always help point me in the right direction when I’m unsure of what I want to get. If you haven’t visited Downtown Books yet you are truly missing out on a wonderful experience! ?

Interesting place, worth perusing. I had a slightly negative experience though - the sign says new & used books, but the shopkeeper was not willing to sell any used books. I don't want to leave a poor review of a small business but I found this confusing, not to mention disappointing, since some of the used books were quite interesting.
There is a nice collection of newer books though, and some nice gift items like candles, coasters, bookmarks, etc. I would give them my business, just wish I knew their policy before i saw those used books!

This charming little shop has a nice selection of books, cards, and other knickknacks. Reece provided excellent customer service. And my blind date book was actually one already on my want to read list!

My husband and I were visiting Manteo yesterday and found this gem. The store is small but they have a great selection. My personal favorite was their section dedicated to local history and local authors. We picked up three books and look forward to visiting again. And a special thank you to the proprietor for kindly lending me his phone when I thought I had left my debit card at another business. We visit the Outer Banks often and will make this a stop every time we’re in town from now on!

This is such a well curated shop, 10/10 recommend! Used book selection is small but overall book selection is excellent. The assortment of non-book but book adjacent and gift related items is excellent as well. LOVED the amount of shelf talkers! :)
