This campground is open even though the Blue Ridge parkway is closed north and south of the site. Only way to access is along North Carolina Highway 18. First of all, this campsite was nearly empty on the weekday that I was there. I'm guessing it's because of the closures on the Blue Ridge parkway. But the bathrooms are still maintained and very clean, and over 100 tent sites to choose from. You might want to give it a try if you need a little peace and quiet. The campsite tables are very old and worn, but they still function. That is the only reason I didn't give the site a Five Star rating.Restrooms: Very clean.

No Rangers or Campground Host available, only self check-in. Envelope accepts cash or Credit cards, NO checks. We were lucky to get a sight because they fill up quickly on the First Come First Serve Bases. I arrived around 5pm, so I didn't have time to check out the rest of the facilities.

This is a very peaceful and pretty campground. It's a bit worn down and the tent pads are rough on many sites (some don't even have tent pads at all). There are no showers and the toilets are a bit grim, but if you're used to camping it's pretty typical. My biggest complaint is that the water spouts are few and far between. We tend to cook a lot and it can be a long haul for water to clean up with. Access to trails and unique areas om the parkway is great.

Drove through the campground Saturday, June 4, 2023 which is interesting because we camped there two or three times a year. They have a sign up that said no drive thru campers only which is great but every time we are there it’s like a freeway with people driving through that aren’t camping.Anyway the campground was an absolute disgrace grass needed cutting almost Knee high . There is a dead tree that’s been there for about at least three years that needs to be cut down it’s blocking at least to camp spots.Same goes with some of the picnic tables seat I have red tape on them they are broke there again about three years or more. Of course the parkway poor shape most of it grass needs to be cut but you would think they would at least cut the grass or people have to pay to go in and camp . I guess we have to give all of our money and taxes to fight the Ukraine war and God knows what else. The green new deal ain’t working!

This is yet another beautiful, rustic Nat’l Park campground on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is not as pretty as some of the others, the sites are not that large so choose carefully, but we like them all better than private campgrounds. We’ve stayed here twice-once in a smaller site along the outer perimeter and this time in A1, the first as you enter and closest to the Parkway. It was open and sunny (great for charging our solar) and surprisingly quiet as there was little traffic; especially at night. We did the gentle hike to The Bluffs Restaurant through forests and meadows as well as the hike in the opposite direction to the old homestead called Brinegar cabin. We highly recommend both. We held back a star due to the condition of the bathroom. Rustic is ok but there was no lighting at all and it was not too clean. We intend to go back and highly recommend.

Wonderful place to stop and chill in the mountains. The high grassy meadows with sweeping vistas complement rushing streams and antique Appalachian cabins.

Loved this campground. Small, there are some AT&T reception, enough to do basic browsing and streaming TV. There are some very shaded spots and there are a few on the sun if you have solar, you can get good sun on these spots. There is a beautiful hike through thick woods and meadows to Brinegar Cabin, it says it's a mile, but it was 3 miles back and forth after walking around in the cabin. From that trail, there are other trails accessible. Very peaceful during the week.

Campground, is clean, a great place to stay (3 nigts this round). No showers, no biggie in that I'm self-contained.No site hookups, but water and dump stations are located at the entrance.Generators can be run from 8-9.The ranger at the cabin is very informative and helpful as she teaches about local plants, fungi and the park's history.
