I just left Highlands Gem ShopOn my first visit to Highlands, NC not only was the weather spectacular for this South Florida girl, but I came across a “gem” of a shop. This shop had so many cool and different things. From the beautiful jewelry to the eclectic selection of gift items to the interesting minerals in the back. I wasn’t looking for anything in particular but I came away with a special memento from one of the lovely local artisans in the shop. Thanks for adding a little extra “sparkle” to my trip to Highlands!

I've been coming to Franklin, NC for years and I finally made it up to Highlands, I've been collecting minerals for years and stumbled across Highlands Gems. I'm a crystal guy, that's my thing. I love the collection of crystals, you can tell they have been carefully curated. If you are looking for jewelry, there are some works of art in this store. Be sure to stop by Highlands Gems when you are town. Definitely a hidden gem.

DO NOT waste your time and go here. This place should be CLOSED! The people are AWFUL! I am a Yoga teacher and fitness instructor and I happen to love rocks and healing crystals. This place seemed perfect as we walked in but immediately the energy was odd because the old women that worked here had a problem. They didn’t seem like they even wanted customers the way they treated us. The old women that worked here were extremely unprofessional and rude. My boyfriend and I were followed around and stared at. One old woman held her poor dog and followed us around the entire store staring and making rude comments. They treated us as if we were trying to rob the place and there was absolutely NO customer service whatsoever. Honestly I hope the business runs into the ground because this world needs more kindness and how IRONIC it is that a crystal store posing good vibes and elevated thinking houses the most repulsive unkind and miserable old ladies you’ve ever encountered! To those women who treated us this way- I hope life l sends you some hard lessons in kindness and non judgment. As far as the business goes, do better! I hope no one goes here or has the experience I did! Sorry for the negative review but it breaks my heart how incredibly and unnecessarily RUDE and MEAN these old ladies were! Y’all stay away if you want to be treated like a customer. Or a human being at that matter!

Extremely rude and non-caring,. One person just made the whole experience very upsetting as they were very unprofessional in answering questions. I would not suggest to visit the store while in Highlands cause it will tant your experience.

This eclectic little shop will draw you in! Everything from beautiful glassware, unusual art, to stunning jewelry. I bought a funky piece of art for our bar area at home and a bracelet from the artist. Next time the $30,000 ring I tried on that was stunning will hopefully be my anniversary present ❣️

Very rude and unprofessional staff. Do not recommend purchasing jewelry here, there are several other jewelry stores in Highlands with pleasant workers, would not waste your time here. Overall I did not like the experience I had here at all, and would appreciate good service and nice people after I spent money here.

This gem/jewelry story has some of the most authentic and beautiful offerings in Highlands. Sapphire ring for our daughter there 19 years ago and re-visited. They took the time to inspect and clean it for NO charge. It's a beautiful piece. They design and create most of the piece in the store. Wonderful people too. Been there a long time.

I usually travel to highlands once a year and I love it. This was my first time stopping by Highlands Gem shop and it was amazing, I didn’t want to leave! Matt and his wife Laura are amazing! The store had such a wide and unique collection it was so hard to just leave there with one piece. I left with an amazing gift and couldn’t be happier with my experience at Highlands Gem shop. Can’t wait to stop by next year!

My one interaction with Matthew Schroeder has tainted my entire view of this business. Was planning on looking at wedding bands and gifts for my wedding party here, but the day before I planned to stop in, I had to pop in to check on a client and parked behind the shop. I was in a rush and parked in a marked no parking zone because I hadn't paid attention. And I take full responsibility for that and when I came down, he began to berate me even as I attempted to move vehicle while apologizing profusely. The man was red in the face less than 10 seconds after I realized my mistake and tried to explain myself while getting out of his way ASAP. He also applied an adhesive to my vehicle that is proving impossible to remove. I get that the lack of parking in Highlands has business owners up in arms about it, but it was an honest oversight, I took responsibility for it and attempted to remedy the situation, but to be verbally harassed over something as small as a parking spot is not acceptable and not in line with the values of Highlands. Will avoid being anywhere near here or him from here on out. And that sucks, because they have such pretty things!

Mathew Schroeders is wonderful. His attention to detail and general knowledge about jewelry is top notch! We purchased our original engagement ring 25 years ago, and have used him ever since.
