The service department was rude and spiteful. When asking to speak to the manager, I was told that I was speaking to the manager. When asking his name he refused, and he and other person at the desk laughed. As I was leaving, they wished me a good day. Great guys and I can’t wait for them to get their karma back. I am happy to let everyone to steer clear of this dealership.

This rating is a result of being misled by the service department. I had brought my wife's 2018 Outback for oil change and tire rotation. The vehicle performed normally prior to the appointment. During the appointment the service manager came out to the lobby and told me that both the front and back axles needed to be replaced. The estimated cost would be $2200.00. I declined the work and had an independent mechanic I trusted evaluate the axles and he found absolutely nothing wrong with either one. The industry term for this activity is called "up selling" the customer. I call it lying. Since we bought our two Subarus new from Jim, we felt good to bring them in for service. Never again after this happened, we can't trust what the service manager tells us anymore. Beware if you bring your car to them!!

My husband had a Subaru Crosstrek that we purchased 2 years ago as a used car from Hickory Used Car Super Store. He loved his Subaru Crosstrek because it was great on gas mileage, rode comfortably, and had great safety features. Unfortunately, in May 2024, he was involved in an auto accident. Thank God he was not hurt, but his Subaru Crosstrek was totaled.
We went to the Hickory Used Car Super Store to see if they had a used Subaru Crosstrek or Outback because my husband was set on getting another Subaru. Unfortunately, they did not have any in stock. We then decided to visit Jim Armstrong Subaru in Hickory.
When we arrived at Jim Armstrong, we were warmly greeted by a receptionist who happened to be a former co-worker of mine. She paired us with a salesman, but the experience went downhill from there. The salesman was cold, unwelcoming, and gave us the impression that we were wasting his time. After asking a few questions, he told us he didn't have anything for us, and we left within 30 minutes.
The next day, we visited Randy Marion Subaru in Mooresville, NC. The sales staff there were very friendly and knowledgeable, making us feel welcomed. That evening, my husband left with a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek.
Jim Armstrong Subaru in Hickory needs to train their sales staff on customer service and ensure they are welcoming to all customers they interact with.

I've thoroughly enjoyed the service and honesty this team has provided to me and my Subaru for many years. I honestly can't recommend them highly enough, each and every one of their service technicians works quickly and efficiently and seems to be completely honest with their evaluations each and every time. I also go here for simple stuff like inspections and oil changes even though it is slightly out of the way for me because it just seems like they go above and beyond to make sure you drive away happy each and every time. If you have a Subaru and need a little extra TLC for it for any particular reason, this is your place.

My entire family has been coming to Jim Armstrong Subaru to have every single one of our Subarus (5 now) we've purchased through them serviced over the course of each of our cars' lives, even when living out of state. They are that good!!
The best service, the best pricing, and ladies, these guys are so trustworthy and won't tell you about services and repairs you don't need! They explain everything so you can know what's going on and learn about your vehicle. They're amazing.
Best part is, with how amazing mechanics these fellahs are and how they love fixing vehicles, our family could take in our classic cars and trucks of other brands. They've got you covered!

These are incredibly nice people who have a great reputation in this region. While waiting, I overheard customers from a nearby town with it's own Subaru dealership saying they love Armstrong enough to drive quite a distance to service here. Staff are helpful, knowledgeable and skilled. It's actually enjoyable to come here. They made a fantastic deal on my car purchase and I love my Subaru!!

Came to look at a white Subaru WRX looking to replace my girlfriend’s car. Wasn’t up set it took 5 min for someone to finally come out to us but the salesman that came out seemed to know nothing factual about the vehicle had a lot of questions that got left as questions. Then after all that decided screw it I'm a mechanic I’ll answer my own questions with a test drive to which I was told “only if your gonna buy it, can you drive it” and how am I supposed to know if I wanna buy a vehicle by just looking at it? First and last time coming there thanks again.

Had a great experience with this dealership in Hickory. I was trying to get a very specific car and they went out of their way to help me order exactly what I wanted and kept me updated regularly on its progress. They were very fair with pricing and it was one of the best car buying experiences I have had to date. I highly recommend them if you are looking to buy a Subaru. My sales person Mike Houser was excellent and very transparent at all times. Thanks for being so attentive and making shopping local amazing.

This should be the model for all car buying experiences!
I was able to test drive multiple trims and models with zero-pressure. “Here are the keys, be back by closing.” My trade in was valued fairly, and pricing was a dream.
All suggested options were realistic. No undercoating underhandedness, no nitrogen nonsense, no Scotchgard shenanigans. This dealership doesn’t invest in blatant money grabs (ToyoGuard and HondaCare, I’m looking at y’all) so there’s not a lot of fat built into their sticker price.
The financing was easy and painless, and the only hard sell by the finance manager was for a very comprehensive warranty extension. It doesn’t hurt that their doc fees are lower than nearby competitors.
Did I mention that this dealership has tons of employees that have been working there for decades?!?
I’m looking forward to being a repeat customer for a long time!

Mike knows his stuff, and knows how great his Subarus are. His zen-like approach to sales is a breath of fresh air to an industry of golf cart riding lot lizards.
Terri is the Subi-whisper, and can explain any feature, gadget, or gizmo in plain terms that just makes sense. She knows the vehicles inside, out, and online!

Best car buying experience I’ve ever had. if you meet a friendly older gentleman named JJ he will take good care of you. And then you find out later that it was Jim Armstrong himself. Friendliest car dealer owner I’ve ever met.
