This is a very trusted Animal Hospital. We drive an hour plus to utilize this facility. Handicap accessible parking with entrance and restrooms available.

Dr. Kuchera is the best vet I've ever been to. We have always been charged VERY reasonably and received excellent service.

Just the best people! So flexible and informative. Always trying to resolve problems in the most economical yet humane ways. I don’t feel like they are reckless with my finances. So helpful with me to order meds and specials foods in the most wallet friendly way :-)

I visited this vet with my dog for his annual shots and we don’t plan on returning. The staff members were great! They were kind, patient, and attentive. However, this quickly went downhill when Dr. Truskey entered the room. She did not acknowledge my dog at all upon entering the room, which was shocking and an immediate red flag. She just started poking and prodding with her exam. She gave him no preparation, petting, talking to him, etc. before sticking him with a needle (which caused his leg to raise in the air and is not a typical reaction from him, as he sat perfectly still for bloodwork) and then just raising his head up to dispense medication in his nose which he has NEVER experienced. Although I discussed how reactive and anxious my dog is (which was also noted in his records by a previous vet before moving to this state), my concerns were consistently undermined by Dr. Truskey. I am glad that I was able to get everything my dog needed, but this should not come with being spoken to like a child who has not been caring for this particular dog for over 5 years. I think pet parents can be a great source of information on first time visits. Also, I’m aware of how young I am, but as a licensed mental health professional who is completely aware of how that medication works, I’d advise to just provide written directions after a consumer says they understand. Consistently repeating certain points after an individual communicates their understanding is not necessary at all and it seems to have implications.

My dog started seemingly choking on something during our walk and I rushed into this place in a panic, sobbing, absolutely freaking out. They took my dog back immediately and calmed me down and did such a great job at handling me AND my pup. I saw a woman veterinarian and she was absolutely incredible. He had a stick lodged in the very back of his mouth so they sedated him and removed it. I am so thankful for this place. And the total I paid for the service was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I am so impressed and so thankful.

Came here to get my fur baby his 3 year rabies vaccine. Called to set up an appointment and they were able to fit me in to work around my fiance's schedule due to work! They also ran through their new updated system and showed what price certain things would be.. and we got them done with no real issue, granted our furbaby isn't too happy about it. I'm glad he's okay and slightly cooperative.

Edit: Just wanted to come back and update that our sweet boy is now dead because the cancer had gone so long that it was attached to his aortic cavity so the wonderful staff at Austin Vet were unable to get clean margins. They took one look at the tissue and determined it was 100% cancerous. I believe our boy would still be with us if it weren’t for money making neglect here. All they see is dollar signs. Highly recommend Austin Vet in Beaufort. They genuinely care about the well being of the animals and aren’t astronomically priced. They also don’t jump straight to sedation for X-rays to make more money. Havelock tried to charge over $400 for X-rays with sedation. Austin was blown away they’d recommended that and took him back with 0 issues and did X-rays that only cost $115. Please, do yourself and your animals a favor and go elsewhere. There are vets out there that genuinely care about your animals.I took my dog here after he had an accident as they were the ones who could get him in the soonest. I wish I would’ve waited longer to be seen elsewhere. All three visits, he’s left dripping blood. I had to ask for supplies to wrap him up this time so I didn’t leave a trail through the lobby again. All the supporting staff I’ve encountered have been super sweet, kind, and caring. Dr. Truskey (apologies if that’s not spelled correctly) however, has 0 bedside manner. My dog was laying in a puddle of blood, I was sobbing on the floor after being told to consider putting him down, and she dropped a box of tissues next to me on the floor and told me she’d send someone in with his meds and a quote. They wanted to charge $1000 for a 15 minute biopsy with x-rays. I’ve heard wonderful things about Dr. K, so I’m not doubting her. But I do not recommend Dr. Truskey at all.

Super nice staff. Much better than traveling to Kinston and waiting ALL day for an emergent problem.
