About Halifax State Historic Site
Halifax State Historic Site is a great stop with a pretty and interesting adjacent town. It is a place rich with history featuring multiple open structures like a tavern, jail, and an archaeological display. The visitor center is under renovation, but the history of this 18th-century port town is explained well through friendly and knowledgeable staff, printed materials, and self-guided exhibits in the preserved historic buildings. Focused tours are offered at various times and are very insightful. Visitors can walk a thoughtful Underground Railroad trail or an interpretive path to the river, which is peaceful. There is plenty of walking, but most areas are also accessible by car. It is recommended to plan to spend at least half a day here.
