My wife and I love the Triad Wine Shoppe. It is a relatively small store, but it has a great selection of unique wines from around the world at good prices, and you can always get advice from the owner, Leo, who is very friendly and knowledgeable about his wines. If you sign up for his email or follow the store on Facebook (no charge for either), you'll hear about FREE tastings (last night was four French wines) and he often offers a FREE glass of wine on Saturdays for those on the email list. In addition to the bottles for sale, there are up to 8 selections to drink by the glass, either on the comfy couch or at the small bar. A very friendly atmosphere.

Great wine Shoppe! One of Greensboro's best kept secrets. Personal service and knowledge of product is excellent. Good, unique wine selection with competitive prices. I prefer this wine shoppe over the big box stores --- if you appreciate good wine and personalized service, you must visit. They also have Saturday evening wine tastings, which help open you up to many options.

I stopped in because I like to support local stores and was hoping to find some unusual wines from lesser known vineyard. And in some ways TWS seemed to fit that description. Its hours are limited and when I was there it was only me and the owner, who took his time to direct me to the variety of wine I sought and offered assistance and advice. I found one that seemed appealing, he nodded approval, and I parted with my cash and departed. Once I got home, out of curiosity I went online to see what the various rating sites had to say, if they even knew of it. And while their ratings were favorable, to my surprise they also reported that the average price nationwide was almost 2/3 what I had paid. Now granted, some states tax alcohol less than others, so I then looked at stores in North Carolina, only to find that I had indeed paid too much. A week or so later I was in another wine shop, where the same variety, vineyard, and year were indeed available for 1/3 less. And this was the regular price. Too bad. I did enjoy thoughtful service, but not at that price!
