Absolutely phenomenal care! Brought my cat here at 4:30 AM for respiratory distress. I was immediately checked in and my cat was taken back within minutes of our arrival. The staff was incredibly compassionate and informative, and made sure to go over every diagnostic and treatment with me before performing anything on my cat, making sure I fully understood what was going on. I am so grateful to the entire staff for their professionalism as well as their obvious care for animals and what they do. Although I hope I have no more animal emergencies, if I do, I will be coming back to Happy Tails for sure.

Thank you for taking care of my buddy when he needed it most.

Happy Tails is by far the most compassionate and professional emergency vet we have ever used. We first used them with our two dogs no longer with us when referred by Carolina Vet Specialists who have given us quality care before but always seem to be diverting us due to wait time. So glad we ended up at Happy Tails five years ago.
Since that time we have two different pups who have been treated at another emergency vet in town where the skills were there but the docs had a rushed manner and phone staff were “just ok” but a couple times dismissive.
So we decided to go back to Happy Tails when our babies showed signs of kennel cough on a Sunday and one of them had worsened over several hours. I had left a message at our regular vet but then called Happy Tails just to see if I should wait or what. The person on the phone was very nice and seemed to be quite knowledgeable about options. She was honest from the beginning that there would be a long wait and we would have to wait in the car due to potential for kennel cough. I said since they were eating and playing like their usual crazy selves I would just wait til the morning for our own vet. She agreed but made sure I knew to bring them in if there was a concern. Then one of them began to cough much worse so I decided to take them in. Because I was warned about a possible lengthy wait, I packed a bag of things to do and snack on for both me and the pups and settled in in the back lot and registered to start the process of waiting for care. We were there from 3:30p, arriving back home at 10:30pm. I was kept informed about process and payment and treated with respect and patience when I started getting a little antsy about the wait and considered going home - not angry, just reevaluating my time available to stay or go. Glad I stayed because when I finally got to speak to Dr. Barnes, she started with compassion for me for having waited “an ungodly amount of time” and explained why it had taken so long- not in a rushed tone about the three critical cases she had been tied up with that I have received at other vet offices. She showed respect for my time and questions and explained every step they would take. It made me feel good that our dogs would have received such concentrated care were they critical.
Was it frustrating and exhausting sitting in the car all afternoon and evening with sick but active dachshunds? Yes! But Happy Tails staff’s transparency from the beginning about the process let me know they respected my time and concern for the pups. They were kind and gentle when coming out to take them in for diagnostics and meds and friendly and compassionate to my crazy self who got a bit dazed by nightfall. I went home with clear explanations and instructions for outpatient care and with my well-taken-care-of doxies who were hilariously gorked on good drugs. If I had a tail, I would have wagged it. Cora and Cooper would have wagged theirs if they were not so high.
Thank you for being so caring of my babies and kind to their harried Mom. We all slept great that night and they seem almost all well.
Happy Tails is now our first choice go-to for after hours vet care.

All were exceptionally nice, informative and caring! We were surprised when they called to see how their “patient” was doing. We highly recommend Happy Tails and have already mentioned them to several people.Of course this is the only place we can say we really like but hope we never have to visit again?

Let me start with that this establishment is a 10/10…
When you need an emergency vet, it’s stressful already. My experience here was nothing less of amazing, from the person who took my info initially to the person who checked my fur baby out when I picked him up. My doggie had soft tissue surgery on both his stomach and intestine after eating something he wasn’t supposed to, which caused a blockage. The vet gave me info, choices, was compassionate, and really made me feel at ease. The vet who performed the surgery was TOP NOTCH.
If you’ve got an animal, you don’t plan to need a place like this until you need a place like this. Hands down, pick here. Highly recommended.

Highly disappointed in the quality of the service here. I brought my pet Coco here (10 year old Yorkshire) to be examined for her bleeding rectum area and to diagnose if she had a hernia that was stopping her from having bowl movements. Needless to say this place was more concerned about the money we were spending than the quality of service while examining my dog. The ONLY reason my review has 2 stars is due to the fact that their receptionist was welcoming and I appreciate that.
Unless you have $800 at your disposal instantly to find the actual problem with your pet, do not bring them here. You are better off conducting a diagnostic test yourself than having these doctors “play pretend vet” and just tell you the same things you were concerned about before will need testing done.

Our experience was extremely disappointing. Our dog was hit by a car and had a broken leg. We were told he had blood around his lungs and a broken rib as well. They quoted $4000 to “monitor” him until morning when our regular vet opened. Pain med, oxygen and observation from 11-8 is $4000. Our other option was euthansia. We were told he would be in extreme pain and have a hard time breathing. We mentioned we may take him home until morning until our vet opens and were imformed if we did so, animal control would be contacting us. For fear they would take her other pets from her, my daughter in law almost had our puppy euthanized! I stepped in and stopped the idea of euthanasia. We decided to take him home despite the threat of animal control and monitor him ourselves until morning. He never had trouble breathing and never showed any outward signs of pain. We were told the “blood around the lungs” was air and there was no broken rib. I don’t think they realize what the options of “$4000 or death” does to a pet owner….especially ones of average means. Animal control was front and center at the house at 8 am the next morning which was just added stress in an already very stressful situation. I worked in law enforcement and I know how you can become numb to emergency situations but someone behind front desk also needs to be taught that situations like this are extremely stressful and should use phrases like “I’m sorry you’re going through this” and “I realize this is stressful” I don’t think overall they realize to be put in a position of $4000 or death to something you love can do to people. I walked away feeling like they were more about the money than helping especially when we decided our best option was to take him home and monitor him ourselves. Thankfully the rest of our journey was better elsewhere. He had surgery (somewhere that seemed more empathetic) and we found a better option for emergencies:..

Don't go.
The front end staff is nice, don't get me wrong, and there weren't any attitude problems with anyone. But when we first called, we informed them that our dog was reactive and might snap at them. They said that was fine and to bring him in for his emergency treatment. We did that, and ended up waiting an hour and a half just to get a phone call to explain what was wrong with our dog. When we got inside, we once again told them that our dog was reactive, and they said it was fine, and they took payment from us immediately, without knowing what was wrong with our dog.
Then when the vet tech came out, we told them that our dog was reactive. The tech paused, and said "Will he bite me?" and we explained that he may snap. To which the vet tech left, and came back and told us we had to go to the pet store to buy a MUZZLE for our dog.
This is upsetting because they aren't prepared to deal with reactive dogs, or dogs that are injured, because even an injured dog will snap if their injury is touched.
So, we got a refund. But the problem is that the refund took THREE DAYS to process. If you're in an emergency situation more dire than I was, you may not have the money to pay to go to a SECOND emergency vet, should you choose not to use this one, or worse, they tell you they aren't equipped to handle your dog.
Being charged before treatment is problematic, especially if they can turn you away for things they SHOULD be prepared to handle, but can't.

Extremely rude and uncaring. You and your pet are just a cash account.

Rediculous set up for monetary gain. NOT vets that care about animals. All about $$$ and tons of it. No real vet charges a $350.00 “biohazard fee” for a dog that isn’t well. And that was no misunderstanding as I asked “What??! $350??!” She said yes and I made SURE I heard right by repeating it back. He was sick not glowing in the dark! Not to mention they make you wait an entire day and hours and hours with no feedback or info.
STAY AWAY. There are way better emergency clinics that are in the area like After Hours.Thats a great place that actually cares about the animal, not the money.

I appreciated the care they gave my kitty! Unfortunately, they requested we do way more services than he needed. It was recommended he get x-rays. I declined because his problem was not skeletal and I wanted to wait for the blood results. They acted like I was killing my cat but turns out I saved myself hundreds and he didn’t need the x-ray. Please don’t be afraid to speak up for yourself and decline services you don’t feel comfortable with. You can always do more testing later!

Happy Tails was very professional, polite, and considerate when caring for my pup! They were knowledgeable and thorough with his care. He was bitten by a snake and taken to another vet, before making the decision to bring him here. This was the best choice for him. He received the proper care he needed to fight infections. Throughout the process and even after discharge I received updates, and calls to “check in.” In todays society this is an uncommon practice and we are so thankful to each person who cared for our sweet pup.

We are incredibly grateful for the care we received at Happy Tails!! Having a sick animal is very stressful, and I felt that everyone - the doctors, techs, and staff - were all incredibly kind and compassionate towards our situation. They gave us several different treatment options and I felt that pros and cons to all of the different interventions were explained well. My husband and I appreciated their transparency about finances and felt they went above and beyond to provide us with all the information we needed. They were patient when answering our questions (even at 2am!) and ultimately helped our pup feel so much better! I felt that our dog Indy was taken care of with dignity and love.
Thank you to everyone at Happy Tails for taking such great care of our Indy!! You all are wonderful people with kind hearts. The Triad is so lucky to have you serving our community. God bless you all ❤️?

I was very nervous and anxious about bringing my 14 yo puppy mill rescue Yorkie, Cisco, for an ER visit at 4 am in the morning! From the moment I called, I felt reassured that Cisco was going to be in good hands. I could not have been more right! The registration and medical history intake processes were super simple and thorough, conducted by compassionate and highly competent staff. I was very honest in expressing my concern about the potential cost as my husband and I are senior citizens on fixed incomes, for which we did receive a discount.
When Dr. Gray called me after her exam and x-rays, she was very thorough in reporting her findings. We agreed that the bloodwork could wait until he saw his regular DVM, Dr. Tev Barros (Oak Ridge Animal Hospital) on Monday. She discussed various medication options for Cisco in the meantime.
I WOULD RECOMMEND HAPPY TAILS TO ANYONE IN NEED OF EMERGENCY VET CARE! They took care of the larger medical issues, but also did some small "feel good" things as well - a certificate of bravery for Cisco as well as a bandana. These things, though not medically necessary, were the icing on the cake for me. If I could give them more than 5 stars, I certainly would! Thank you, Happy Tails!
