Extremely disappointed! My wife and I are new to NC, moved here from the Chicago suburbs, and I came across NYBS while searching for a butcher shop. I decided to give it a try and took a ride. As I walked in one of the butcher's asked if I needed help and I told him I was looking for a small ribeye roast for my wife and I for New Year's Eve. He asked about what size and we decided one bone should be plenty for the two of us. I then met him at the register, I will admit I was a bit shocked at the price but thought to myself it's New Year's and the first in our new home. New Year's Eve afternoon I excitedly opened the package and was totally disappointed!! I believe what makes a ribeye so darn tasty is the cap. If you look at the attached picture you'll see there really isn't much of a cap at all, it's mostly all the eye. For a $100 piece of meat you would think it'd look amazing. We haven't cooked it and if for some reason it is amazing, I'll be sure and change my review but as it looks right now, I would have been better off at Costco! Lesson learned, I should have asked to look at it and not just assumed. Happy New Year!! I said I would change my review if it was warranted and I did, I gave it another star because the meat was was very flavorful but it still lacked the best part of the ribeye, the cap. But the quality was very good!

Days ago I stopped in here, first time. Spoke extensively with the gentleman at the counter. Told me they were doing Pork Butt on Monday and would be ready for pulled pork on Tuesday. Just left there, Oh Sorry, it's in the oven will be ready tomorrow . I won't be back. Don't tell me one thing and I get there and you don't have it !! Person @ the counter could seem to care less !! Be ready tomorrow, I won't be !!!

I happened upon The New York Butcher Shoppe when I was picking up food from a nearby restaurant. This shop looks as if they JUST opened recently, but they are still put together pretty nicely and aesthetically pleasing. They have a wide variety of meats, seafood, and wine. As well as take away pasta dishes, pasta & sauce ready to go in the fridge. I can't wait to come back and pick up dinner for my fami

If God didn't want us to eat animals, he wouldn't have made them taste so good! There's a hierarchy in steak inventory. There's steak from the regular grocery store. Once they've had enough of those grissle bombs, people tend to graduate to the stores where all the "morally superior" people work and shop. Those steaks are pretty good and will do, but when you are ready to have a steak that will make you question ever ordering steak out again, go to Gate City. As Waylon Jennings once sang, "If I hadn't seen the sunshine, I wouldn't cuss the rain". Buy a fillet, grill it with some maple of hickory scraps mixed in your charcoal, and get ready to see the sunshine. Whether you go for the tenderness of a fillet or the flavor of a sirloin, Gate City will open your taste buds to a new level. We literally never order steak out anymore because it is rarely as good as what we can get and grill from Gate City. I've also had chicken, scallops, duck, and salmon which were consistent with the quality I've mentioned earlier. Gate City is an experience. Actual butchers actually cut your steak to the size you want. There are also limited quantities of other items like wine. pasta and produce. When you get to the register, look to your left. If there are trays of bread pudding in the cooler, get some. After you've finished your veggies, heat that up for 10 mins or so, pour a glass of scotch and savor the memory of a meal you'll tell your grandkids about!

It’s nice to be able to get Scottish Salmon here,I can’t really find that anywhere else, and you can tell it’s very fresh because the salmon is springy and doesn’t smell like fish. The Salmon I bought from all the other grocery stores all smell a little fishy to me.
