Brian and Co. @ Pete's Garage do a great job! I went in for an inspection and I left with good brakes for the back two wheels (after a safety oriented check). They involve the customer and don't pressure making decisions. Very professional from acheduling to car care. Also they're very laid back and chill.

$200 For a basic diagnosis and estimate. Not a place that I will recommend

I have been taking my families vehicles to Bryan and Patrick for years. Both of them are great guys and are always willing to go the extra mile to provide the best customer experience. I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone looking for someone they trust to take care of their vehicle.

Bryan and Patrick have been servicing my family's cars for years. They've always been honest and open with us and done genuinely great work. They've never tried to overcharge us or convince us to pay for something we didn't need. Can't imagine taking our cars anywhere else.

I caution anyone considering Pete's Garage for automotive repairs. I called to ask if I could drop my car off and explained that I will be going out of town Friday. They said yes we typically get cars in and out the same day. I told them there was a problem with the front left suspension. They still ran a $175 inspection of the entire car to let me know everything else I should spend my money on. Also note the $175 does not go towards your repairs. I approved the repair that had to do with my specific complaint. I never heard anything else from Bryan and I tried to call at 5:30 PM to see what the status was for my car. The shop was closed and no one was answering the phone. I drove up there just to make sure my car was not sitting outside since it’s not a great part of town.
I spoke with Bryan in the am although he interrupted me and said it was ridiculous of me to expect for them to change out my control arm and bushings within a day. I tried to explain that I understand time constraints, and that things happen, as long as someone is communicating with me. He then told me that they had to order a part that would not be in until later that day, another bit of information that would’ve been nice to know before they closed and went home the day before. The part came in that afternoon however, “the correct part was ordered, but the wrong part was in the box.” So now they had to order it again and our trip on Friday was going to be delayed. Totally understandable if they had been communicating from the start. Finally, Friday afternoon, I receive a call that my car is ready. After paying the ~$1900 we drove out of the parking lot and headed down the interstate out of town. 15 minutes from the shop we started hearing a horrible squeaking/cracking noise, by the time we got to Greensboro, it sounded like the car was going to come apart in the street.
When we returned the car to the shop after our trip, I was blamed for the issue with the car, which emerged immediately after leaving the shop. Despite my brother, a seasoned professional, suspecting a fault in tightening a carriage bolt or over torquing something (unfortunately we were both in SC on a weekend with no way to lift the car to see what was actually happening. Either way, they denied any responsibility and blamed it on us. While they didn't charge for the additional inspection and what they did to fix it, the overall experience was disappointing and left me questioning their competence and customer service."

I have a high mileage 2013 f150 5.0, and Pete’s Garage has been immensely helpful in preparing her for the next 200,000 miles. They are always straightforward, helpful, and have gone out of their way to repair faulty repairs from prior mechanics. They are honest, and I trust their expertise…a hard thing to earn when on my end. To anyone in Durham, I strongly suggest you use Pete’s Garage and the Kerwins to keep your vehicle motoring on down the road.

Hands down the best auto garage in the Durham area. These guys are friendly, trustworthy, attentive, pay attention to detail and actually LISTEN to their customers. I am always greeted by name with a smile which makes having to drop my car off for usually expensive repairs easier. They even pay for uber rides to and from the shop! The detailed reports they send are something I've never experienced at an auto garage! They are spot on! As a woman, I must say that I have never trusted any mechanic more than the ones here! I'd give them 10 stars if I could! Highly recommend and they get the job done (usually same day) with QUALITY! Thanks Pete's Garage :)

A reliable little mechanic shop that has been a trustworthy go to for all my cars.
When it comes to identifying odd mechanical issues or routine maintenance, I have trusted the folks at this place for a while now. They have been straight to the point, upfront on pricing and always on time.
Recommended and trusted with my cars.

I've been taking my vehicles to the Kerwin brothers at Pete's for years. There's no one else I would trust to give me an honest, fair assessment. They stand by their work. Stand up business. Highly recommend

Be wary of businesses like Pete's that force you into a $175 "assessment fee." If a customer comes to your shop and wants a specific job done and needs a quote for sourcing a specific part or hours required for a specific job, and the company refuses to give any estimates before you pay a fee, it is usually because they want to "find" things you don't need done to charge you more. This is a predatory business practice. Do not fall for this. Plenty of great shops in the area that will be upfront with their costs and estimated labor requirements.
My experience with this shop: I was met with rude behavior because I asked specific questions and didn't want to have an "assessment" done on my vehicle. I'm an automotive mechanical engineer and have been building/fixing cars my whole life. I wanted a simple quote and was met with hostility because that's "not how they do business." These guys are looking for suckers.

I brought my car because it was overheating. They charged me 1300 dollars dis not fix the problem and obviously scraped the side of it against something and said nothing about it. A year and many gallons of water later I sold it to my ex as is. He knows absolutely nothing about fixing cars but managed to f8nd the problem and fix it himself. It was a six dollar part.

Owner is very unpleasant and rude10/9/23 Edit:Bryan, I truly appreciate your response and respect you immensely for it. Kindness goes a long way in my book and because of that I feel the need to change my rating. Everyone has their bad days and I now believe my experience was nothing more than that. Thank you again for taking the time to reach out. I will no longer hesitate to bring my own vehicle to this location and will recommend others do the same. Have a good day!
