Great quick experience- best in the triangle! I’ve seen about a half dozen eye doctors in my life (3 since moving to Raleigh) and this was hands down the fastest and one of the best experience I think I’ve ever had. Scheduling my appointment ahead of time I was nervous because I am used to spending 2+ hours at the eye doctor. My appointment time came up and I was called back almost immediately by Amore, who was very kind and pleasant, before Dr. Raess gave my vision the best tune up I’ve had in years. Doc also answered all of my questions, and was very friendly as she explained what was going on with my eyes. I am used to having slightly cloudy vision because my last lenses weren’t strong enough, and 2 days into my new lenses I couldn’t be happier, and am seeing better than I have in years. Love my new lenses, and so glad I didn’t end up with bioinfinity lenses, which my eyes can’t stand. Will recommend!

Summary:
Recently I had to deal with My eye doctor regarding a bill that should have been covered by both of my insurances.
1) staff forgot/did not listen/purposely did not enter all your insurance information on the system.
2) the system does not communicate with other departments other departments information systems and do not carry over the insurances in the file
3) which results in charging the patient extra (feels like it's chaotic on purpose because it's a shady tactic to get the patient to pay the bill upfront then submit claim later to both insurances)
4) I had to call My eye doctor, Spectera, and VSP to get it all straightened
5. Tell me why I'm paying two insurance premiums, a copay, and a deductible, and I gotta do all that and I get Billed $150-200 for glasses and get charged $64 for an eye exam
Full story:
I'm not sure what is happening to My eye doctor maybe new management, new staff, new front desk, new op techs, maybe they have technical difficulties but service is off the communication is off.
My family and I have been coming to this My eye doctor for approximately 4 years.
I recently had an appointment and they were trying to charge me $20 Copay plus an added $44 for a retcam. It's just a machine that takes photos of the retina. I don't remember being charged a total $64 for an eye exam. My husband had an eye exam in 2024 and only paid ~$45. We have 2 insurances. I communicated this to the op tech. I also mentioned it to the optometrist. She's busy because she's got a million appointments that day so she's rushed but thankfully she told the front desk I had 2 insurances. Sure enough They confirmed it and ended up with $0 copay. This is not my first time at this location so the 2 insurances should be on file. It just felt like they were trying to weasel more money out of patients. The chart, the front desk, the tech, and the optometrist, the system are not on the same page. Then later on I get a bill for almost $200 for glasses because the system did not have both my insurances. If you don't advocate for yourself they'll charge you more.
Another experience at this location was in 2023.
Approximately one year ago 2023 my husband made an appointment for an in person annual exam. They called him the day of and said they had to cancel because there were no optometrists but that he could do a telehealth visit. They were trying to charge him for the telehealth visit so he said no thanks. Obviously it doesn't make any sense to be charged for an eye exam via video conference. How are they even going to do their diagnostics and measurements? Tonometer, retcam, dilation as needed, optometrist exam. Again it felt like they were trying to charge patients for nothing. Good thing my husband said nah. Again if you don't advocate for yourself they will try to charge you.
And lastly, some time ago ~2021 when the big angry lady was still working there. I went in for goggles. Got my own frame. My scripts were good. Just needed lenses. I don't know what happened but my frames were "lost". It took them a long time to tell me it was lost no one could locate it for different answers from people. All the while I was still receiving texts that my goggles were ready for pick up.

Prior to the appointment they called to let me know the appointment was canceled for an in person dr and I could still come in with a virtual assistant. I called back the day of my appointment to figure out the procedure for that as they did not outline it during the initial offering of appointment. The day of the appointment she told me it’s a fee to use a portion of the virtual assistance program/software.
Checked in @11am for my 11:20am appointment as they instruct you to arrive 15 minutes early. Needless to say I left without seeing a doctor as I had had already been waiting for 45 minutes. After reading the other reviews, they experienced the same thing.

I have used this site for two of my annual eye checks, and have been satisfied with the service each time. I had an in-person appointment with Dr. Raess, who was excellent. She was really clear when she explained things and she listened to my concerns. The tech was kind and professional, and the exam room was clean. The hand-off from the exam to the glasses/check-out is a little awkward: it's odd to check out for an exam in the same place you order glasses. One thing I noticed is that they are not good at follow-up. Dr. Raess ordered a trial of contacts for me, and I put a pair of glasses on hold, and I never heard back. From reading the reviews, I think I'll follow up with them in person.

This is the worst experience. Someone that thinks profits are more important than people at the My Eye Dr corporation decided to outsource the doctors to a website.
I was checked in for my noon appointment at 11:45. I sat down with the “technician” at 1 o’clock. Yes, over an hour later. They took pictures of my eyes. The technician never looked at me. The technician just took pictures and stared at an iPad while the iPad told them what to do next. Afterwards, i was ushered to a second room where I waited for 38 minutes, staring at another iPad while a 30 second promotional video played on repeat. The 19 year old Who led me into this room stared at his phone for the entire time, but encouraged me that I could do whatever I wanted while I waited. Beyond this, he never said a word. When the “remote doctor” finally did show up on the iPad. She had no idea about my current prescription or how I was told to wear it. Ridiculous.
I’ll never darken the door of this ludicrous place again. Edit: I will say that I was not prompted to give them a tip, so that’s definitely a point in their favor.

Horrible! Will not return to this location. Made my appointment two months in advance in person, only to get to my appointment wait for 40 plus minutes to be told they overbooked and would not be seeing me today. Worst customer experience ever!!!

I went to the office near south point to order my prescription safety glasses for work on the first week of April. It's about to be two(2) months later an I still haven't received them. I've called the office so many times on different days still no one has picked up. By me not getting anybody on a phone I just had to go up throe in person to see what was going on. I was told my glasses will be at their office tomorrow. I asked could I pay to have them FedEx them to me. The lady at the desk said they will pay for it being FedEx to me since it's taken so long. That was last Tuesday, an I still haven't received my glasses and again I still can't get anyone on the phone in their office to see what is going on. The environment when you go up their just comes off unprofessional. I'm black an I even felt like it was to ghetto in their for it to be a place of business. I would not recommend you take your business here. The My Eye Dr office in north Durham takes care of you WAY better. Lesson most definitely learned.

The Durham Location on Fayetteville Rd gave me great service for my eye exam and for glasses. Karim took up time to explain my prescription options and detail how they would benefit me. Karim deserves a big Shout out for giving him excellent customer service.

The MyEyeDr SouthPoint staff provided excellent service when my vision was evaluated, frames selected, and at pickup. Ashton, in particular, gave kind and professional service.

❌ bad energy as soon as you walk in
❌ 2.5+ hour wait for appointment
❌ wrong contact lens perscription
❌ you will walk out feeling bad about yourself and the decisions that got you here

This place is so disrespectful of client’s time. I am waiting right now, about a hour past the time of my appointment, and they’ve now said it will be another half hour. If I could leave I would, but the guy already brought me back to take retinal pictures and I tossed my old contacts. They are rude and totally unhelpful. They were like “we can reschedule you for the rest of the appointment at your convenience.” Huh?
