Front desk staff is amazing! The psychology/biofeedback side of the clinic has staff that are above and beyond. But, the other side of the clinic that handles nerve and tissue pain has doctor's supporting staff that needs bedside training or pursue a career that doesn't require care and patience. Some of them seem like they hate their job and respond rudely. I won't call them out but the atmosphere is extremely different on one side of the clinic versus the other.

After being on Ecmo for 5months I was left with excruciating nerve pain in my right foot, I've had several procedures done there that have done nothing but make it worse. On top of that they have done nothing for the pain I have experienced since 2021 always trying medication that does absolutely nothing and when I go back in a couple of months if they can't get it right I'll be looking into having my right leg amputated from the knee down it's my only other option. I understand they don't like to give opioids but for some of us that's our only option.

This is the worst place possible and should not be open. They don't do anything but run painful excruciating tests then refer you to another Dr, then they don't listen to the Dr they refer you to about treatment plan or offer any treatment & schedule appointments months out while you sit at home and suffer. They induce pain& anxiety not treat it!!!

I've been going here for years. They mainly want to focus on one thing at a time. It's all about steroid injections. They only work for about a month.

My doctor referred me to Duke Pain Medicine Clinic. Within a couple days I received a call from them. They acknowledged the referral but said they have no appointments available. I asked when they thought something would become available and she said she didn’t know. I asked for a guesstimate and she said she couldn’t give me one. Never experienced anything like this; however, after reading reviews of other people’s experience I understand where they are coming from. I think I will find other options.

DUKE DOES WHATS BEST FOR DUKE NOT WHATS BEST FOR YOUI had to go to duke due to my other Dr not writing meds anymore. The first time i talked to them the Dr said it would be no problem to keep me up at the same dose i was on. Im on opiods and this was at the very beginning of the so called opiod epidemic that was over when the elections were over in 2016. Then i signed up with duke and they wouldnt keep me at my dose and they reduced it from 80mg to 30mg in less than 2 weeks. I told them that i coildnt due to the severe spasticity i would have but they didnt care about me or my quality of life. When youte a paraplegic the quality of life is more important than your time on this planet. I told them that i would sign a waiver that i would rather die at 50 then live how they wanted me to and live to 100. They could care less all these new laws towards opiods were for New Patients not people like me who have been on opiods for close to a decade. When they took my dose from me it was ok to go from 80 to 40 to 30mg for oral and by pump they would take 150mcg every 2 weeks. But when they were giving my dose back i had to wait the full 2 months and only go up by 50mcg for pump because they said it was way too dangerous to go up or down. I told them why then did you take 150mcg every 2 weeks and now i can only go 50mcg every 2 months they made up more lies and continued to lie about everything. Then my cather got clogged and had to replace it then they couldnt get it out and just left it in me and out a new catheter in and after 9 days my sutures opened up and i had a high fever they gave me a staph infection and they removed everything now i have no pump and my spasms are worse. If i were you id go to unc, wake med, or drive to Greensboro than go to duke. They will treat you they way THEY WANT they will not listen to you even though theyre not cripples.

My extensive review has miraculously disappeared. I’m not going to rewrite it, but as others have clearly stated, this place has gone down the tubes since Prakken left. Be prepared to be treated like a drug- seeking criminal. And folks, Prakken did NOT retire! He has an office in Briar __?__ (N. Raleigh).

I am in disbelief at the moment. I can't fathom how such a respected institution can treat patients in such careless and dispensable manner. My physician referred me to this clinic for a second opinion and I was told that it would be 10 weeks before I would know if I was "approved" as a patient. So, I waited and waited and then decided to call an follow up. Apparently I was denied and no explanation was given. Not only that, but I was never notified that my referral was denied. So, basically Duke expects you to continually call in to see if your referral will be accepted since they won't be taking the time to notify the patient that they will need to find another option. More over, they apparently don't think it is worth their time to explain why they aren't accepting another physician's referral. Clearly, Duke knows that patients are referred to them because their current physician feel their patient needs the next level of expertise. But, Duke doesn't have the respect to communicate or consider the amount of time a patient is kept waiting. What an outright disregard to patient care and respect.

Since Dr. Prakken retired Duke Pain has gone downhill. Multiple messages to my provider via portal & phone (5 total) went unanswered until I contacted customer service. But they still continued to be non-communicative ultimately endangering my well being. I will be filing complaints with the NC Medical Board, Medicare, and every other authority for the negligent "care" I experienced at this clinic.

Duke Pain needs to stand up for their patients in North Carolina. Duke Pain only tapers medicines if you are a pain patient. Everyone has to be the same pain patient in NC. You have created a new opiate crisis on the other side. "This makes the opioid crisis resemble what sociologists call a “Moral Panic.” A moral panic occurs when an entirely baseless, exaggerated, or distorted social problem generates wide public attention and fear, leading to irrational, sometimes harmful responses." Everyone here is just following those misinterpreted CDC Guidelines. Read them. The mental stress and biologic psychological effects of pain can be just as severe as the pain itself. Untreated pain has a profound impact on quality of life and can have physical, psychological, social, and economic consequences. Patients are experts in living with their disease condition, including their experience with the many treatments they have used to manage their conditions for years. It's a bad situation.Thank you Dr. Prakken (retired) for your past compassion, professionalism and top level treatment at Duke Pain.Thank you Stanford University California Sean Mackey, Chief of Pain at Stanford for supporting patients. "Everybody is unique and deserves to be treated as an individual."

Since Dr. Praken retired this place has gone to hell. And because of that so many good doctors and nurse practitioners left with him. Not everyone's pain is the same, some need more help than others. They used to understand that concept, NOT ANY MORE. And when you speak up for yourself you are deemed argumentative and problematic, then forced to jump through more hoops. We live with our pain, every second of every day, knowing its never going to fully go away. But if you need extra help, forget it. We are not all the same and should not be treated as if we are. There is no more understanding or compassion there. If you go there, get ready to be treated like any other typical case study.

The Appointment schedulers are bordering on rude incompetence. Today on 8/31/2021 between 1:15pm 1:30pm, a female scheduler with a thick southern drawl, hung up on me because she refused to let me explain that I was told the day before to call back after I researched the surgeon I wanted to see. This Pain Medicine Center’s administrative staff leaves a lot to be desired. Something needs to be done about how they deal with patients over the phone. The female person who calls to confirm your pain procedure is so rude and bullying also, telling you how you can’t ask the doctor any questions after your procedure, etc. WHAT IN THE WORLD⁉️

Hello there,Be aware of the dark aura over this place, they will lock you in hell no kidding. No help, no hope , no intention to manage or explore methods for pain management, such is basically their duty description, on the opposite this facility hires some practitioners that violate their medical oath . Do not contemplate submitting your discontent to patient visitor relation , my guess is they are all watching Dr. Anna Lempke videos /CDC indoctrination about addiction, forgetting not everyone is the same. They all follow their corrupt guidelines assuming all patients fit into a box, no it's not that way and we all experience pain different. Pain is the 5th vital sign of human life, and it is a human right to be able to live without deep stabbing pains. It is their way of feeding upon the money of the suffering pain patients which, finance would be better used for your pain in any place other than this one. Address your complaints to the department of human services and send your story (200 Independence Ave Sw Room 509F, HHH building Washington, D.C. 20201).Legitimate pain patients need to speak out and use your rights . If there was no pain they will have no jobs.
