After experiencing some unpleasant things in the dental, I should say some good words here with my pcp. In the past two years here, I was always greeted super friendly by Dr Zhang (sadly, nobody pronounces her name right). She is super caring and professional. I also like the nurses at the lab. They are also super caring. Thank you for the past two years. I know Dr Zhang has moved, so do I.

My mother went to see a doctor today. We waited months for this appointment. Her doctor was not actually a doctor and was in the room for a total of 3 minutes before we got up and walked out. Lashonda Hunt Means walked into the room like she didn't want to be there. Asked my mother about her pain and when she said out loud, she was having a hard time finding her words, I answered for her. The reason we were there was to discuss her back pain. The nurse, Lashonda, asked about her back pain and then when I began to talk about her back pain-cut me off in mid sentence and said that she wanted to "honor the purpose of the appointment and address what her doctor wanted"...why did you ask her about her pain then?? this nurse caught an attitude and then wouldn't let us tell her about my mother's pain because she didn't think it was important and then when i said we were leaving said that she asked why I was upset. That is a lie. When I said we were leaving, she said "yes, please" and then slammed the door when we left. She left a string of lies in my mother's medical account which we are unable to address or respond to. She wrote that I grabbed my mother, which is a lie. These doctors and nurses think that because my mother has dementia that she is not paying attention, listening and watching everything going on. She is. I am an advocate for my mother, but she is listening to you and she is watching you and when we get home we discuss everything you said and did in great detail. She knows that you lied. She was there. The nurse, Lashonda Means, wrote that she asked me to clarify the reason of the appointment. Again, that is a lie. She never asked that. We were telling her the reason for the visit when we talked about her back pain. The Lashonda Means said that I yelled obscenities' and called her a liar (she is a liar because she lied). I know what I said cause I said it but I never yelled anything at anyone. And that the security guard told me to lower my voice in the lobby? He never said that. I sincerely hope there is video and audio recording at the nurses desk and the lobby. Black women talking is referred to as yelling and raising our voice because they don't want to hear what we have to say. Again, there is no way for us to refute this because she wrote all this in my mothers medical records. She even referred to messages between myself and another doctor, and took it completely out of context because she wanted to discredited and humiliate me and my mother. My mothers pain is important, you do not get to discredit it because it is not important to you. You do not get to create lies to cover your bad behavior because you think no one will believe me. There is no way we are letting this go.

Extremely disheartening and discouraging the level of response here. Like other diabetics I have experienced (3 times in the last 6 months) having request for refills being ignored to the extent I did without important medicines for periods of time. The Incompetence and /or complacency demonstrated here is beyond unacceptable.
Probably not the place if you want competent medical care.

Staff at the desk deserve a shout out for their good humor, kindness, and careful review of information. Insurance processing always risks getting complicated, so getting things arranged in the system up front really makes a difference. Reviewing all of the details took a few extra minutes, but it was completely worthwhile and done with a smile and a few kind words. I have to say, this is exactly what I think any of us would hope for. Healthcare can be a real pain - but staff like these make a huge difference. THANK YOU EVERYONE.

As a new patient seeking a new doctor for my own well being; I didn't like the manner Dr. Flipin treated me. With full disclosure my pain meds were not helping me, somehow miscommunication that I was asking for pain meds was brought to my attention. I never asked. I've been looking for a doctor in Durham NC for 2 years, without success. I have cancer and a plethora of medical problems. I was treated only like I was seeking meds and not addressing my health problems. Extremely disappointed because Duke Family Medicine made this referral.

I came here for an annual checkup because my cholesterol was high last year. The incompetent staff coded it as hospital visit. My insurance didn't cover this type of visit. So instead of being covered Duke charged more then 1200 for bloodwork to tell me my cholesterol was high. Their reason was because I complained to the doctor about my foot which I did not seak treatment for, I was asked about anything else I want to bring up since the visit was so short. I don't understand, I do an annual checkup every year and I chose Duke this year. Big mistake. Insurance company says they have seen this before with Duke. Whoever Angela C is on the admin staff is coding incorrectly and I don't understand how this is not medical fraud. If a doctor tells you they are a resident doctor get up and find another place to go.

The Duke Health webpage for Dr. Westman clearly says he is a Primary Care Doctor. I called the number on the page to request a Primary Care Appointment. I was given a Primary Care appointment, it was even recorded in the chart that way. However, when I arrived for the appointment I was told that Dr. Westman does not see Primary Care patients. I waited months and drive 3 hours for this appointment. They offered to let me see Dr. Westman for obesity but I was unable to see him as a Primary Care provider. Perhaps he's a good doctor. It's hard to believe in someone's attention to detail when their staff and website have been wrong (according to the receptionist when I arrived for the appointments) for months.

Only reason I’m giving a one star is my husband is a diabetic and takes insulin. When we try to fill his prescription that needs approval, it usually takes close to 2-3 weeks for a response. There is no way to call them and check on the status in case he needs his insulin sooner than 3 weeks.

Wait times are extremely long. I arrived 15 mins early, didn’t get seen until 2 hours later after being called back into the exam room. Also, whomever is scheduling appointments, should probably be aware of what is offered at the clinics before scheduling is done. I waited 2+ hours for something that could not be completed here. This is not the first time this has happened to me at this clinic. However, the nurses and staff are nice. Some of them go out of there way to make you feel comfortable.
