I can't recommend Atwood Tax Services enough! I was two years behind in my taxes and missing some of my records. Jack was able to recreate the necessary forms and quickly, efficiently prepare my returns. Jack is very knowledgeable and easy to work with. He's quick to respond to emails and texts. I'm very comfortably and confident with his representation and certainly will be using his services in the future.

We hired Jack Shaefer to file our 2018-2021 taxes. He was thorough, timely, detail-oriented, and responsive. But in the end, I really disliked the service and wished that I had gone elsewhere. Although I have earned a Ph.D., I am not educated in accountancy, business, or tax law; so, probably like many clients, I wasn't able to converse with Jack in his professional language. As a result, I felt like nearly all of his communications to me were hard to understand or ambiguous. I never felt like he understood me, and I struggled to understand him. I never felt like he had my best interest in mind; but rather, got the impression that he thought that I was trying to cheat the system, rather than just file and pay my taxes legally. It seemed like he was more a fiduciary for the IRS than for me. (In reality, he was probably neither.) I think that Jack is no longer taking on new clients, so my advice to find someone else is probably irrelevant. But this was the second worst customer service that I have ever experienced.

I had a question about tax reporting for foreign bank accounts after returning home to the US. I called and left a message. I thought I would have to schedule an appointment for next week. Atwood returned my call quickly that day. Over the phone, he explained in detail how the tax law and treasury law affected my situation and what I needed to do. Although he does not work with the treasury issue. He was very knowledgeable. And he made recommendations for services that can. He showed me how I needed to proceed. I am very thankful. He has shown true concern for my welfare. I think he will be even more diligent for his clients. Thank you.

In a panic about some capital gains taxes that took my by surprise at the same time as I was moving across country and starting a new job, I Googled and saw that Atwood Tax Services (near the Streets at Southpoint) was driveable from my house and open after 5, so I gave them a call. I believe Mr. Atwood answered and he was incredibly nice and very helpful. I would have been happy to schedule an appointment and pay him for his time, but he helped me over the phone and said to come see him at tax time. I may still need to see him if I can't address my IRS issues on my own, but he pointed me in the right direction and I am truly grateful. I've used H&R Block for many years, but I will be moving to Atwood Tax Services for my 2018 taxes. Thank you, sir.

The best I have ever seen. I have been using Atwood since 2011. Honest, extremely knowledgable and very reasonably priced.
