Considering this area goes through hurricanes, it's a wonderful place. Their walking path is shredded rubber and makes for an easy walk.

Last night I attended the Candlelight tour at the battlefield. It was absolutely amazing. It is easy to see that the park service put in countless hours preparing a beautiful experience for park guests. The tour was a beautiful walk through the woods lit by a full moon. Along the path, illuminated with countless luminaries, reenactors told the story of the battle from both sides, Patriot and Loyalists. Afterwards, I went into the museum and watched the film about the battle. The end of the tour on this special evening ended with a hayride back to the car. All in all, it was a wonderful evening. I cannot wait to return in the daytime and visit the trails and grounds during the day.

This is a beautiful park and trail to walk the dogs, or learn about history at the battlefield. The wooden bridge is beautiful to walk over the marsh. This would be a perfect spot for fall photos, a picnic, or education. I would highly recommend a slow walk through here.
Dog-friendliness: Trails that are either dirt or rubber and highly shaded with trees to avoid heat exhaustion. Water fill up stations available also.
Picnic area: Basic picnic tables under the trees near the office, or bring a blanket and picnic in the surrounding off trail area

This was my first visit and I will go back again. It was an enjoyable afternoon. The trail is not to long of a loop and paved so it's a fairly easy walk. The information center has a video that walks you through what happened at the battle, this was the first true victory for the patriots.

Great revolutionary war historical site with 3 trails (historical, tar heel, and woodpecker). Rangers and volunteers are very knowledgeable and willing to chat away as long as you are! I would recommend bringing bug spray especially for the swampy area.

Dog-friendliness: Trail that not only tells the history of the battleground, but allows people to walk their dogs.
